  • Today I'll be showing you guys how to set up your MSD modules so you can get your LS swap project running! Any questions feel free to write them down below! These instructions should work for any MSD Box models 6010, 6012 and 6014. The main difference between them(as far as I know) is that the 6010 and 6012 take specific reluctor teeth to work and the 6014 auto detects and adjusts. Price wise they're almost the same, but the 6014 is a bit more expensive. Hopefully this will get your Carbed ls swap running! The Carb I'm using on the LS is a Holley 600 Vac Secondary. Manifold is a Holley dual plane manifold. This set up is a 1975 Dodge D100 Body with a LM7 engine. Process for an LQ4 and LR4 will be the same for you ls carb swap!

    What if you had gauges with the water temp sensor can I run that sensor inside the block instead of the one that come on the msd box?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats not a problem. You can add a second water temp sensor to the same place on the opposite head. Just remove the pipe plug and thread yours in. I had to run a seperate sensor for my toyota gauges so I drilled and tapped a hole in my water pump to run a seperate sensor.

    Im so close to doing the fuel system in my carb LS swap. what fuel pump are you using? Im looking for either intank or external. I have it in a 82 c10

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 85 dodge tank didnt have a pump in it, only a pickup. I put in a pump from a TBI fuel pump and cut off the end of my pickup where I put my pump on using fuel hose. I ran the wires through the nipple for the evap and a vacuum cap. Wired it up to a relay and an ignition source and that was it.

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, one last thing. TBI pumps put out a minimum of 10psi, too much for a carb so youll have to put in a regulator with a return line and set it up to 3-5psi

  • @Keeterbob
    @Keeterbob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did the fuel tank originally come with an electric pump? And when it’s running you can see fuel from the return in the filler neck?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a video on how I retrofitted my fuel pickup to accept an electric pump since the stock tank didnt come with one. When the pump is running I can hear the fuel at the filler neck pouring back on the return side

    If I put a fuse in the main power wire do I need to run it through a relay??the instructions say run it through a relay

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on how you have it wired. If your relay goes feeds directly from the battery to give the box clean power, then install a relay. But if your relay would be after a bunch of other stuff and the power to the relay is already dirty, then just hook it up to the ignition switch and call it good.

    Hi great video looking for more information. Hi 65 yr old LS rookie here. I have a new built 2004 LS 6.0,30 over,aggressive cam for torque (airboat application, need torque to get boat moving with 4-6 people) LS1 heads, 750 single pump but dual feed carb,(heavy valve springs ) hire rise intake with another 2 inch spacer to bring in more air, new 6014 msd box. Looking for a video to teach me how to install, how to use laptop, what software i need and how to use it. And what those settings on the MSD box work/effct the engine. Any help greatly appreciated. Hello, I don't use the MSD 6014 anymore but tuning the box is very simple. If you hook up the map sensor hose and leave it in "truck" on the dial, it should give you a good running timing curve, no laptop required.

    How do you make the tac work?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can pull the signal off the MSD 6014. It has a wire that produces a 12v square wave like a standard GM Hei distributor. Most aftermarket tachs will work on that signal, but if you have a non GM oem tach, youll need to make the nessesary changes to your tach or add an additional box. For my toyota tach, I wired the tach wire to my cluster, then had to add a 1k ohm resistor to jumper part of the tach and then play with the rheostat inside to adjust it. Idk about other OEMs.

    • @texasentertainmentgaming

I would call the manufacture of your tach and ask them if its compatible if an HEI signal(old school chevy.) Chances are that it is because most aftermarket stuff is chevy based.

    • @NightWrencher

    Could you explain to me your starter setup ? How did you ground and wire it up accordingly to your msd setup

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your ign switch should have a wire for ignition. Its either 1 wire or 2. Ones for cranking and running while the 2 wire has the circuits seperate. You can wire it the box so that it runs off the same wires your old coil used to run in case you have the 2 wire set up or if you only need to run 1, you get that straight from the ign switch. Hope this helps

    • @ryanleaks4894
      @ryanleaks4894 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NightWrencher that makes sense I have the 6014 so it’s only one 1 that goes to a 12v ignition switch. So for the starter would I just need a regular positive and negative cables to go to a ground and the battery?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ryanleaks4894 for the starter itself, you get ground when you bolt it on to the engine. The big red wire goes to the batter and the small terminal goes to your igniting starting wite

    it's cool and all but why did you LS a Dodge I done basically the same with a 5.7 Hemi for about $1,500 that's buying an OC performance intake a MSD Hemi 6 box and 3 hemis from a junkyard but you can make your life a little easier by using a 90 Dodge truck gas tank it will bolt in and it's already made for fuel injection and Holly sells a pretty good fuel pressure regulator it's fairly cheap Part # 12-803 $35.99

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure what state you're in, but here in southern california, finding a hemi at the junkyard is like trying to find hens teeth. Complete engines dont go for less than $1800 by themselves. Considering, I paid $250 for a complete 5.3, $350 for my msd6014, $300 for my intake, $140 for my carb, $180 for my headers. I finished my whole build for less than the amount it would cost to buy just the engine. We are looking for a hemi for our challenger project, but we arnt ready to pay close to 2 grand for a junkyard engine.

    When you dead head an electric fuel pump the fuel overheats at the fuel pump and boils the gas and creates air pockets and it will stop pumping. Absolutely not a good idea

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of the modern pumps have an internal bypass when they reach max dead head pressure so it depends on the pump
