Hey Tom, I lost my job last week and I have a lot of free time on my hands to watch your videos and practice. I love your videos because they're like a good plate of food. Every time I watch one there's a little gear talk, a little theory talk, an album recommendation, a work or road story and some homework but really it's all musicianship. You're saving my life right now buddy and probably not just me. Thanks a million!
Yessir, hang in indeed. I lost work back in March (last gig 3.14) and live music ain't gonna be a thing for a while so these videos have been everything
You win the internet today. The best part is that if you went out and bought the gear Tom uses it would sound closer to how it sounds in his videos than some mic'd up demo. I hate gear demos with mic'd up gear. I still watch like we all do but i know its going to sound nothing like it once I get it.
I dusted off my old 4 track tape recorder, and started using it again. Not just for nostalgia, tape is brutally honest when it comes to assessing one's playing, I'd forgotten just how much of a difference (at least to my ancient ears) in terms of highlighting my more, er, 'unique' moments.
Man that super fast chord grabbing exercise was fucking crazy! Your dexterity was just nuts. I will start practicing that one right away. Thanks again for the lessons Tom. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate them. #UncleLarry4Life
Dude, I have never been prouder to be slovenian, not even when we won olympic medals and shit.. Would love to hear more about your roots.. And more duets please, progressive or otherwise.. So good..
Hey Tom. I know you're limited by recording straight to your phone, but I've always been really impressed by the tone that you get. Obviously we're not getting the full benefit but I'd rather hear you playing to your phone than some other guy with a full home studio setup, but no tone or feel to start with. Class will always shine through but you can't polish a turd!
I record straight to my iPhone as well. It has limitations certainly. But... in ways I build discipline not being able to punch-in and edit, and the less time I mess with editing, the more time I have for playing and actually working on the music. I k ow some guys that have great, high production values... and they spend LOT of time on that editing, if not much more time than actually playing the music.
Actually.. Phone mics are pretty decent. I often do little video clips using a Yamaha thr10 to send to my brother who is learning guitar... And the tone is actually quite good. Also saves me the hassle of messing with software and editing.
Hey Tom, firstly many thanks for doing this, enjoying every lesson, so much knowledge. The one thing that truly resonates was your comment "be a musician, not a guitarist", never a truer word spoken. Watching from the UK so also loving the British affair you seem to have going on. Blessed are the cheese makers!
I love my music city bridge on my LP JR DC. The resonance and intonation and playability makes this guitar my favorite ever!! If you don’t have this upgrade for a stop wrap tailpiece, you are missing everything …get this upgrade and never look back. Thanks Tom!!
Hey Tom, I know nothing I'm typing is anything that hasn't already been said, but this channel is a damn gold mine. Free education. I, like many who have commented, have played most of my life. And it is forever humbling to see and hear your playing. It's the epitome of time, tone, and touch. Lots of flash? Nope. Lots of filler? Nope. Lots of bullshit? Nope. Just meat and potatoes badassery. I never tire of this channel. We are lucky to have you. Thank you.
@@danyjr I caught that reference on That Pedal Show, which it how I came to be here. Nothing wrong with The Cube. Just ask Neil Schon. Listen to the solo on Don't Stop Believing. Amen.
Tom, thanks for making HS a safe place on the interwebs. It's nice to hear your sincerity on helping folks learn some tricks and no BS discussions on the stuff that matters. Appreciate the time signature discussion and how you approach it. Stay golden!
I'm not as good as him but I play similar stuff like this playing along with backing tracks. And people shitt talk me up one side and down the other. Like if they don't like me just don't watch me. If I was Tom they be jacking me off. The dude is great man
I am just watching this lesson in April 2023 but I will be going back to it often. That playing at the beginning was fantastic! It was like music from a dream. Very cool and understated. Thanks Tommy from Cleveland.
Hey Tom! The guitarsounds you get on these recordings/videos are some of the best on youtube! So please don't let stupid comments bring you down man! Please keep up the brilliant work, love from Sweden!
I know a lot of these YouTUbe gear channel guys sell a bunch of the swag they get, but they get so much of it I don't know what else they could do with it all. Give it away for shipping cost, I guess. Anyway I love that you're doing this in your garage with an iphone. Never change.

This could be the 1st track on your solo album. Thanks for all the really solid guitar advice, beautiful honest playing and straight shootin' doesn't go unnoticed! Thank you!
Well Tom, your tone is 1000 better than many yt guitarists with fancy interfaces and such. And that's because you really can play! I myself started my music TH-cam Channel during quarantine using my iPhone, but I'm no Tom Bukovac, so I quickly moved to a simple audio interface and i mic my amps. Sounds right to me. Whatever fits you man... Cheers!
Hey Tom, thank you for your videos. Your playing touches me in a way no other does these days. There is a certain ground and truth to be found in notes you play and they just travel up the spine and hit my heart and senses yep. And then you say you have Slovenian roots :-). That was a really nice birthday present for me this morning. I was wondering about that. The first part of your playing in the Touch episode should already have been a giveaway... and Bukovac or Bukovec (pronounced Bukovatz in the old country) is an often found surname and it comes from the beech tree/wood, slovenian “Bukev”... but what am I sayin, you probably know that . So thanks again and all the best from a fan in Ljubljana. Oh and a shoutout to Jorg from Bogner, we were schoolmates at MI in 1992, great guy, small world :-)!
I've been in the music biz my whole life and you inspire me in many ways I can't express. I've worked and produced some of the best guitarists in the world over the years and you have an intangible gift that most guitarists can only dream of. Thank you for sharing your talents with us all especially in these dark days.
Love the color and patina of that Junior. Reminds me of an old Minneapolis-Moline tractor my uncle had. I used to just stare at it standing out in the alfalfa thinking colors don't get any better than this.
Thanks for showing the chord grabbing exercises. Been having trouble with chord changes since having to rehab a broken finger on my fret hand and lost considerable speed.
I have played for about 40 years, and I have learned more from your videos the last several weeks, than I have in decades. Thanks for the best channel on TH-cam.
Ok my comment to the guy who ‘suggested’ you get a better broadcasting setup.... I heard guys on better broadcasting equipment that DON’T play or sound anywhere near as great as you do ... so people lighten up! Keep doing what your doing it works... it’s fresh and real! Thanks Tom
I'm happy with the quality of your videos. They have a real vibe to them not staged and just awesome. Free guitar lessons are great. People should feel blessed your sharing your wisdom and knowledge. Thank you for that 😊
just a session dude in his garage with his guitar rappin with other dudes and dudettes with their guitars, this is great! it's like hangin in the local music store on saturday. the sounds damn good keep it up
Amazing story about your blind friend. It’s incredible to me how the brain adapts to no sight information by turning the ears into incredibly powerful hearing and seeing tools. Really wild!
Boy oh boy tom! That intro is tasty! I LOVE your videos. Makes me feel like i'm chatting with an olf friend. I like it when you give advice/ recomandations / ideas about the different possibilities on a certain chord. I've been playing for over 25 years with no real coaching from a teacher or more advanced player. It's mind blowing when someone shows you someting that was there all along but you just never knew! By the way we have some kickass beers here in Montréal, i would love to have you try some! Thanks for what you do , i feel privileged to have someone like you share his knowledge it's amazing. Your a cool dude!
Tom we are privileged to hang out with a guy of your caliber. Coolest most down to earth guy. You remind me of Marty Stuart and Darrell Abbott, guys who never forgot what it’s like to be a fan, never forget a face and shoot the shit with the best of ‘em. The format you use is refreshing to say the least. I hope you don’t change a thing. I could care less what you use. I use what I dig and gets the job done. Keep on Truckin’!
Holy S*%T! The solo (1:30-3:30 mark in the video) was worth the price of admission and the "like". Very melodic! Nice job Tom. Seriously man...I'm picking up my guitar as soon as I finish typing this comment. Cheers amigo!
I'm in awe of the vast knowledge Tom has gained gained from a lifetime of learning about music, yet Tom is self assured and principled with out being arrogant or selfish. His willingness to share and his kind response even when faced with the ridiculous is rare. This is a guitar and music channel with life lessons built in. Best Garage in Music.
I know there were a ton of references and influences in that opening number, but the Pete Townsend harmonic choices really got me where it counts. Thanks, Tom.
Hello Tom !! I’m practicing that chord technique long time now ! It’s amazing how expand the mind without think where to put your fingers on the fretboard ,also about the odd times,a great thing to do is playing three’s on four to count by mouth.greetings from Greece !
Don’t forget about girlfriends, wives, moms...the 2x or 3x make great sleep/lounge wear. The poly/cotton blend is what makes them super cozy soft. Love em!
The perfect guitar player for me. So unbelievably in tune on so many levels.....DAMN.....I could listen to him for days.....thank you Tom....so inspiring.!
Been around today. Coming to this vid is like visiting a friend in his basement, noodling with his guitar thinkin about things. How are you? Fine thanks, and you?.. What an incredible good guitar sound.
Hey there Tom ..I did find it amazing that anyone found the sound not good enough. We all think is sounds great Not a problem. I can’t think of anything to ask you because you always leave us with plenty to think about.... cheers from Australia
Hay Tom.. saying hello from Ireland..love the lessons.. id say close your eyes listeners ..your a different experience....you are so good it s amazing.. you are a gift..thank you for your time..man your playing is so good
Dober dan Tom, I have been following you since Michael’s Palmisano made a video about you and your lovely Sara performing Ripples. Since that day I watched ALL your videos and can say it is a pleasure to be your fan. I click the “like button” before even watching a new video :- )))))…. as it is just obvious it is going to be great!!! You have a special energy that can really reach every single corner of this world and a guitarist soul. I was blown away last evening watching your Homeskoolin video #35, when you mentioned “it hurt my Slovenian heart”. If you don’t mind and as we already known quite a bit about your family, can I kindly asking you to spend few minutes in one of your next videos and explain how your family found a new home in US. I assume it was your grant father/mother moving from Slovenia to Cleveland. Can you also speak Slovene? You are very welcome to come and visit us here.....yes I know you don’t like to travel much…but maybe…one day :- )) PS; greetings to your friend Guthrie Trapp. Both of you are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Tom. I appreciate what you do and appreciate that you’re recording everything into an iPhone. There’s no trickery going on. It’s clear that time on the instrument and being musical is of the upmost importance. The latest pedal or amp isn’t going to do it.
Dear Guitar Duke of Nashville. Besides all the guitar goodies and musical content, I like how you just cut it to bone telling out loud when somebody is being a bit of a prick. But still in a nice non hostile way. You're great! Thanks a lot :-)
Okay, I also have to say that the what makes Tom’s content so great (besides his great playing) is that it’s genuine, raw (unedited) - I love the it how he responds to his son’s interruptions and response to the guy that was trying to give him production/sound advice... priceless. It’s brilliant content!
Hi Tom. Wincent/Chicken Creek Productions from Sweden here. I have a question, but first let say thank you so much for all the inspiration! You got all the chops down and make everything sound freaking awesome! I can't quite grasp how effortless you move around the fretbord, and how every move you make tends to make the NEXT move after that easier. Fantastic! Ok, so my question: Do you get request from your clients that you actually have to struggle with or have you reached a point where your technique and skills allows you to do pretty much anything that’s physically possible on the guitar? Check you tip jar and have a good, cold one on me :) Cheers!
Thanks Tommy! You’re a lot of fun to watch and I’m even learning stuff. Which is good for this sixty year old youth. Lovin’ the Prog too. Thanks from a King Crimson Texan in California on a Peter Green bender.
, enjoy watching play you are emotionally invested in every note that you play you can tell just by watching physically play the guitar you're connected. Cheers
Hi Tom, your attitude towards selling on endorsee's gear is fantastic, it's wrong to make on it. It shows what a decent chap you are, and not just a steller musician. Cheers for this mate!
Ah Tom, the playing over the looper was delicious, not fast or flashy but moody and reflective. Great guitar too, im lovin my first guitar with p90s after many years of “buy it, love it, shelve it, sell it.....on repeat” i think its a keeper! Keep the rock rollin and may all your t-shirts be comfy
Dear Professor! I've been watching guitar videos for years and you're the first one that inspires me to be more musical! Every time I pickup my guitar since ''you know when'', my whole intention has changed. I'm sure tons of guitar freaks on this channel feel the same way! Thank you for that!!
I've been looking for this episode for a month! That chord grabbing exercise. You do it briefly on is the F really necessary? But this is the full explanation. Thanks Starship Trooper!
Hang in there, friend!!!
Yessir, hang in indeed. I lost work back in March (last gig 3.14) and live music ain't gonna be a thing for a while so these videos have been everything
Laid off myself last day is next Friday...best of luck to you brother. Is that 3 snakes and a charm in your avatar?
Goin’ through a few issues too. Hopefully we’ll all find away out of this virus together.
Nailed it man.
Love that someone tried to give recording advice to Tom. Some people just lack situational awareness.
God damn that Les Paul junior you're playing just sounds like heaven you rock bro
He didn’t get where he is by not listening to others...
Mate, that intro is the best and most tasteful playing I've heard in years. It is truly inspiring.
The fact that Tom’s vids are raw and candid is a big part their charm. If he threw production and slick editing in the mix it would be a crying shame.
Meanwhile, the rest of the internet is stunned at how good Tom sounds through an iPhone as they sheepishly look at their UAD interfaces.
You win the internet today. The best part is that if you went out and bought the gear Tom uses it would sound closer to how it sounds in his videos than some mic'd up demo. I hate gear demos with mic'd up gear. I still watch like we all do but i know its going to sound nothing like it once I get it.
😂Maybe look accusingly at the UAD. Sheepishly does just sound funny though.
Yes. This. Too much gear not enough playing (I include myself in this). Keep it coming uncle Larry
🤚 that would be me! Hahaha.
Your intro jam was luscious and resplendent. Now I have to rethink everything in my life. *mind blown
Michael’s been reading his thesaurus again! Love ya bro😂
Hey Tom! I was wondering if Bukovac was a slovenian last name and you sort of confirmed it today! You have at least one fan in the old country! :)
So good..
I so dig how your Beatles influence comes through, its beautiful, the loop had a Dear Prudence vibe
I heard a bit of "I Want You, She's So Heavy" throw-in too.
The thing I like most about your playing is that everything you do is dripping with soul.
I know this was YEARS ago..and this is probably loonnng gone..but i think this is my favorite sounding of ALL youre guitars
Hey Tom. I know you're limited by recording straight to your phone, but I've always been really impressed by the tone that you get. Class will always shine through but you can't polish a turd!
Right? I wish I could plug my guitar to a $10k audio interface and sound half as good as he does with his smartphone.
I record straight to my iPhone as well. It has limitations certainly. But... in ways I build discipline not being able to punch-in and edit, and the less time I mess with editing, the more time I have for playing and actually working on the music. I k ow some guys that have great, high production values... and they spend LOT of time on that editing, if not much more time than actually playing the music.
sure you can but it turns straight up to poo powder
Tom, don't ever quantize! 🤣
Actually.. Phone mics are pretty decent.
I often do little video clips using a Yamaha thr10 to send to my brother who is learning guitar... And the tone is actually quite good.
Also saves me the hassle of messing with software and editing.

I miss the corona lesson days when everyone thought the Roland Micro Cube/iphone mic combo was the best tone they'd ever heard on youtube
They all loved it until they found out what it was. That's the power of branding.
could be it’s the fingers, not the gear
lol which video is that?!

Tom, thanks for making HS a safe place on the interwebs. It's nice to hear your sincerity on helping folks learn some tricks and no BS discussions on the stuff that matters. Appreciate the time signature discussion and how you approach it. Stay golden!
Just got home from work and kicked back in my favorite chair only to find a new 'home skoolin' volume uploaded on youtube. *Cracks open cold beer* 💪
Killer sound Tom ..we just love the Homeskoolin show...keep up the great guitar playin...always waitin for more...

I agree a out the sound
Especially good was yours and Sarah's last prog duo. I can tell how good you both are because....well...it sounded good!
The insane thing is he’s recording all those monster tones straight into... an iPhone!!?!
Dude, that is the coolest guitar I’ve seen you play so far!
I know a lot of these YouTUbe gear channel guys sell a bunch of the swag they get, but they get so much of it I don't know what else they could do with it all. Give it away for shipping cost, I guess.
Anyway I love that you're doing this in your garage with an iphone. Never change.

My city is on fire and this is really helping me escape. Thanks Tom.
A sublime lesson in how the right notes and feel are more important than shredding.

Hi Tom, howled with laughter about viewer explaining how to make your sound better...killer jam. Cleveland Rocks
Hell yeah. Homeskollin' is not mainstream and we like it like that.
The green Home Skoolin' shirts are better than I ever could have imagined. Smashed that buy button faster than Tom Bukovac can grab chords.
Read your comment and immediately bought one. Rock and roll
Don’t forget about girlfriends, wives, moms...the 2x or 3x make great sleep/lounge wear. The poly/cotton blend is what makes them super cozy soft. Love em!
Really loved the music today and that '59. Sweet.
Watching and listening to Tom is like hanging out and enjoying music with a good buddy - just love this - thanks, Tom!
Thanks for the time you give Tom. Who thought skoolin’ could be so cool.

Hey Tom. I appreciate what you do and appreciate that you’re recording everything into an iPhone. There’s no trickery going on. It’s clear that time on the instrument and being musical is of the upmost importance. The latest pedal or amp isn’t going to do it.
Thanks for the mechanics.love the way you broke that rhythm down. Thanks
Tom, your tone sounds crazy good... Not distracting at all... Please keep doing whatever is easiest for you! Thank you SO MUCH for these lessons.
Dear Guitar Duke of Nashville. Besides all the guitar goodies and musical content, I like how you just cut it to bone telling out loud when somebody is being a bit of a prick. But still in a nice non hostile way. You're great! Thanks a lot :-)
Great sound and playing!Need to get a junior now.
Okay, I also have to say that the what makes Tom’s content so great (besides his great playing) is that it’s genuine, raw (unedited) - I love the it how he responds to his son’s interruptions and response to the guy that was trying to give him production/sound advice... priceless. It’s brilliant content!
Thats it! Thats the sound!!!! WONDERFUL...... Brilliant, Tom!
Tom, you are the best!
Greetings from Brazil!
Check you tip jar and have a good, cold one on me :)
Cheers!
One of the new shirts is coming all the way to The Netherlands! Love it, Tom! Keep doing this!
Intro music was so good!!! I've seen a lot of stuff..but never seen chords grabbed so fast! wow
Always a pleasure to watch your gift. Man, God was generous.
tom! I just come here to say thank you. great lessons and great histories behind you.
I have been binging his videos lately many of them and the guy just never ever sounds bad. What a hell of a damn good guitar player!!!!
TY Tom. Just what I needed today.
Thank you for that!!
great playing tom really good stuff thanks
I've been looking for this episode for a month! That chord grabbing exercise. You do it briefly on is the F really necessary? But this is the full explanation. Thanks Starship Trooper!
The intro to the intro is genius.
Yes Tom B , the guy referring to your “potential “ has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, that when we watch you, we’re still applauding. 😁😎
