You will become one the most beloved youtube music personalities, because musicians find themselves at home on your channel and in your presence. I started playing guitar as a young boy in a village in Northern Romania under the cold darkness of communism. Vinyls were smuggled across the border and guitar magazines were traded like gold, and that's how we found out about the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Now I'm 53, I live in Canada and my basement is full of amps and guitars, and during these crazy times here I am watching you my friend every day, intelligently articulating the magic of music. I love you man!
Man, I haven’t enjoyed practicing this much in years. It feels like I snuck into a master class clinic and nobody has figured out that I didn’t pay yet. Thank you.
First of all I love these videos and your playing 😊 I’m a mostly self-taught guitarist, so I mean no disrespect when I say this... to my ear your piece you’re playing over sounds like it’s the key of E major... which would make the B maj the 5 and the F# min the 2. I’m not trying to be a dick or anything... I just want to know if I’m hearing it wrong or if there’s another way to look at it?
maz7100 key is b maj (1) emaj (4) f#m (5m) I think he threw the am (7)in the progression too. I’m self taught too and I get so confused sometimes on it too with all the flats and sharps and geez. lol
Almost two and a half years after this masterpiece was recorded, I'm back listening to it again. About the only piece of music I can compare this to in my musical library is Villanova Junction, making this probably the highest order of compliment that can be paid in my way of thinking. Thanks Tom, I doubt you'll ever fully comprehend how many lives you've touched and how much joy you gave us all at a time when joy was is short supply.
I still come back to that video 4 years later. Best song you ever made to me, it gives me the chills every time. Also one of the first videos I saw from you and the rest is history.
F* me man. @14:37 I have struggled with connecting chords in a musical way and your slide from the E to the B blew me away. It's perfect timing and adding the B back on top brings the whole thing together. I've watched every one of your videos, and get something from each, but this just proves that it isn't about finding some technical thing to impress my buddies, it's about serving the music. Thanks Tom, you are making us all better musicians.
That intro was awesome. Dude in a time of stress and anxiety my blood pressure has been the lowest it has been in years. I attribute that in great part to homeSkoolin- I come here and all is right with the world. Just to let you know you’re affecting a lot of us for the good out here !! Peace and love
I'll be 70 years old in July Tom. I just stumbled on one of your videos that they posted on facebook. Now I have to come to your videos every day , for my "Uncle Larry" fix. Thanks a million for keeping it real all the time.
10.3K subscribers and growing and I bet in some way everyone's playing has improved in some way! One thing I know during all of this my calluses on my fingers have never been tougher than they are now and my poor pitiful short pinky finger is catching hell and has the most odd looking callus! Again, I thank you for doing this especially during this time and I share these videos with my music friends.
Man....just man. I’m OLD...been playing “at” guitar most of my life. And in the middle of this pandemic I’ve finally found someone who just encourages me, dares me even, to just play. I’m not lying one bit when I say my personal playing has improved significantly from watching you. And I don’t mean rippin trippin solos and smokin the fretboard. I mean really understanding what is NEEDING to be played. Thank you so much for doing this.
Bingeing on Bukovac and working to keep it real. Your hard-won insights give me direction and confirm my commitment to get further down that endless road. And you're good company, too. My thanks - truly.
God damn. Every single dude who’s ever had to endure touring with me knows the 5- is my favorite chord ever because I’ve obsessively talked their ears off about it. Between that and discovering the depths of Jellyfish’s brilliance yesterday, I feel like a whole new musician this last week, as you’ve given me a ton to chew on while I’m packing up all my shit to leave Nashville for good next week. Bittersweet? Maybe, but either way I needed to fall in love with music again now that it’s no longer my job and this is helping immensely.
Revisiting this all these years later, it's still one of the best videos. You're a legend Tom, always. Here's a legit question tho. You're saying this beautiful example is Key of B. I - v - bVII - IV. Why isn't this Key of E? V - ii - IV - I?
greetings - i don’t know if you ever got your answer but it is the same thing. since the progression starts and ends on B, B sounds like home or the tonic - which most ppl always analyze as the one (I). others analyze it as V ii IV I in E - neither is incorrect just 2 diff ways to look at or describe the same thing. i think technically viewing the tonic as 1 is the textbook correct way of analyzing progressions, which in this case B is acting as the tonic. hope this helps
So glad you’re doin this. Helps me as much as a songwriter as a guitarist. BTW a song you “saved” for us in a session just hit 10k streams 2 weeks after release. Your creativity in the moment, and selling it to the band, was pure genius 👏👏👏🙏
The great thing about discovering your videos is it's made me examine my playing. I love the fact that you talk about feel, phrasing, rushing, and all the other elements that I've taken for granted. You've also lit a fire under my ass to play more guitar which is always good.
This was one of most interesting videos I’ve ever seen on the tube man. Thanks for keeping political discussions away from my favorite form of entertainment!!!
Beautiful ringing chords. Tom you made my COVID lockdown bearable. Your playing and easy going personality. Thank you Tom, if you come to Australia my 335 is waiting at my beach shack.
Your opening song here is quite possibly the most pleasing sonic arrangement I've ever heard. I could listen to this all day. Needless to say, my Les Paul and I are drifting off to a beautiful place together right now as I learn this.
I love Plexi Soul, probably listened to it 25 times or more since I got it. And this tune right here may be my favorite of all. So beautiful and poignant, just fucking perfect in every way. Speaks directly to my soul in a way few things have. Well done sir.
I have not been in quarantine. I'm a nurse and I've been working my ass off the whole time. I'm just now catching up. Most of this is way over my head as a beginner; however, I still watch in hopes of learning. I have learned my major scales along side pentatonics though. Your insights are quite interesting to me.
Thanks Tom .... I love gear , talking about it and buying it . But you have helped me realize to just play the damn guitar. My gear quality already far out ways my playing quality . ..just play.
Tom. My Dude. I first watched your rig rundown on here, and your playing & attitude just blew me away. Probably one of the first guitarists i've heard in a long time that truly communes with the instrument, and doesn't just noodle all day long. Your perspective and style are a much needed breath of fresh air to the guitar / music community. Thank you!
This...this is my favorite episode so far. #4 is killer but this one takes it for me so far and I've watched them all several times. I'd love to hear this on that gold top
Thanks again for 3rd and Lindsley- gave us a primer for going back thru Home Skoolin'. As with any greatness, one see's so much more upon further inspection.
Uncle caveman i want to thank you for your channel and personality , Since I discover you I go to work every day and I can’t wait to finish my day and go back home to watch your videos, you put the fire back in my soul and I study your playing and musicianship. I freaking love you and i never met you .
Hey Tom. First off, no need to read this on the show. Just wanted to tell you that this thing you're doing is one of the coolest and most intimate things online right now in these surreal times. It's soothing somehow. Your playing is damn tasteful and it brings calm in the midst of chaos, so thanks! You've called yourself a "grown ass man" several times. I like that expression. the cool thing is that you're boyish love of music didn't get squashed in the process. A few free associated things: 1. I simply don't trust people that don't like the Beatles or Steely Dan. It's inexplicable to me. 2. I'm a lot older than you but you still feel like the cool big brother who's willing to show us hard earned musical wisdom gleaned from experience. 3. You don't pander and you're not a suck up. I dig that. 4. May you have a million subscribers and still do what you're doing. Again, thanks man
501chorusecho I’m glad you do. It is heartfelt. I predict a time in the future when this new collective of folks (I’m calling Bukoholics) will be able to see you play live again!
One of the sickest chord progressions I’ve ever heard at the front of the lesson. You are releasing me from my guitar thought prison in these quick, secret packed videos. Thank you. The resurrection of rock is at hand. Let’s take people down that long and forky road.
Tom! My favorite thing about all of this is when you mention sneaking away for a few while your kids watch Paw Patrol. I have 2 little rascals myself and it's tough sometimes to get away. Thank you for taking the time to do this and being so down to earth. Please keep posting
Love the saddest of all chords. That thing you played in the beginning is so beautiful. Personally I'm glad you are not talking about gear. Too many people do. And not enough about music. It's as if the gear is the most important thing, but it's not. Thanks for staying with the essentials. I appreciate that a lot. I like gear too, but I'm old enough to know it's the frosting, not the cake.
I am ready to get back to work. This has been a really good experience, and certainly the highlight of the whole COVID period for me. I hope the pandemic will be over soon so that we can all get back to the plans we had. People respect you and act respectfully towards you, and towards each other as a consequence. A lot of the viewers here are older and probably understand the value of time more than younger people do. Probably all wishing that these personal conversations, which is what your daily uploads are, had happened 35 years ago. The power of connecting directly with an audience is on display here every day. I don’t really care so much that I am getting better at playing the guitar, but that is a much appreciated bonus. There are a lot of talented people in the group here and it has been a pleasure being a part of it and watching it take off.
Liked the second letter you read. Three points were right on. And the studio stories were great. The philosophy about "it's someone's dream" was really heartfelt, I can tell. Ah, the flat 5. "Rainin' on Sunday".
We all appreciate these lessons Buk especially coming up with fresh topics and perspectives everyday. It's great to see the amount of views and subscribers go up. By the way, I had your boy Barry O'Neil at Xact Tone rebuild my pedalboard last year and you're right, not only is he a great guy but a fucking wizard. I was having tons of issues and he solved them all! It's dead quiet, sturdy and sounds amazing. As soon as I saw that he had done your boards, I reached out to him immediately....totally worth it!
I have learned more about playing my guitar in the past month than at any other time. These videos are useful, instantly usable, and entertaining. Tom, you sir have won the internet.
Thank you for the no minor scales over the major chord progressions. I have never been able to make that sound good to my ears. I always play in the natural minor if I do that (If progression is in A major, I can play licks in F# minor) it always sounds great. Thanks a bunch, Tom, these videos are great.
Beautiful brother. I’m all the way from Australia. I’m from the First Nations people (The Gunditjmara/Kierrea Whuurruung) people of southwest Victoria. I make my living from music & stumbled onto you sessions here through another player who I’ve seen up here. Dig your energy man. I Really dig it. Thank you for sharing you great vibes with the world. Beautiful playing & sweet as tones picking up through your phone. I’m really appreciating all your content & can’t wait to check some more out. Bless your good heart man & rocksteady brother. So great to stumble onto another player who really feeds my soul. Lee ✊🏿👏🏿🙏🏿👣👣👣
Hello Tom, I Like so much your « Temper Profil »... (even don’t know if that mean what I mean...sorry I speak french usually, but I Like to play with words). I mean that I appreciate so much the « tone » of your speech and videos, your authenticity, your humility, and your passion about music, Life, your family (so nice when your sons appear and how you’re proud of them:) Thanks for what you share, you’re a great inspiration for me (even overseas, I live in Switzerland). Cheers Man!! David B
You're going to keep doing this TH-cam thing after the COVID-19 madness right???? I found your videos through That Pedal Show, they were talking about how awesome your playing is and how valuable your knowledge is and I just can't stand the thought of you not making these anymore!!! You're doing a really great thing here! Much love. :)

Tom, thanks for the Monday morning soul food. My inspiration comes not just from your playing but from your obvious love of the guitar and your Hunter S. Thompson-esque approach to teaching it.
Hi Tom~ first, thank you so very much for these videos… I am not unique with a lot of the other comments in that you have made me a better player, musician, and reignited passion for truly listening to music. You’ve mentioned a lot of songs and solos that you like on records… Are you able / willing to share a few solos or parts in songs (that you did) that we could listen to, that you are particularly proud of? Go Buks (pun intended) and Go Browns!
I dig all of your videos Tom, and I love that you touched on the minor blues scale over major tonality problem that many beginners have. I contend though that the "sometimes it works" statement is worthy of an entire video. It is a staple of bluegrass, some rock and blues to go from the major blues tonality for the meat of a solo break, but then end the phrase on a minor blues lick. When used SPARINGLY, it can really add a nice tension before the resolution. Keep the good stuff coming Tom. Your videos make this weird time a little less weird.
Tom , You play and speak the truth .. Its really hard to find anything else worth watching now on you tube (about Guitar) .. I just listen and play music , feels great .. thanks.
Nice point about gear, Tom. I prefer my gear to be supportive and good enough to keep me off thinking about it all the time. Wonderful 335 by the way :-)
Hey Tom...you have the koolest channel on TH-cam!! John and I love having morning coffee with you! Thank you for entertaining us! It's like being on the road with you
The attention you pay to the tone and timing of each note is amazing. As a guitar player I realize now how much I struggle with the pocket. Do you count in your head as all or tap your foot ? What do you do (or did at first working it). Thanks for taking your time to support all of us guitar players.
The good thing about your channel is that you’re not trying to sell us something like all the other “TH-cam Evangelists” out there. Just some honesty and good riffs. Thanks.
Watching this again in full...the minor pentatonic blues over a major sound is something I see and hear all time too, very good point! Something I tried as a teenager and realized I was playing the wrong notes. I was missing out on the major third sound over a dominant 7th chord. Changed everything for me when I learned cord formulas...before that had to memorize chords out of a book. Understanding what key your and if you want a major, minor, or dominant sound..and how to use diminished sparingly. Know omg where all the notes on the guitar are. Trying to hear if it’s a minor or major third...wish I had you for lessons 30 years ago. Great stuff and love the progression and the melodies you come up with. It seems like chord tones are becoming hip again, thankfully.
Tom, Just wanted to say a bought the first Trigger Hippy cd, which I was unfamiliar with. My wife and I really live it and listened to it all weekend! I have been playing 46 years and you are giving me some new tools and approaches that are really helping me a lot. Hopefully this crud will b over soon and we all get back to some degree of normalcy. Thanks!
It is so refreshing to hear someone talk about the "emotion" of music and showcase it so well. Would love to get your take on how you associate harmony to the emotion of the song. Much love and respect.
That chord progression you played at the end was killer. It's just a little thing, but it inspired me to go into the garage, play it and try making something out of it. Simple is good and I'm glad you don't talk gear. Most of us, myself included, don't know how to use half the shit we got and we all talk like this pedal is a gift from god and that pedal someone else uses sucks, blah blah blah. Diamond Dave once said if you can't do it in a t-shirt under a street light, then you can't do it in MSG either. So many greats use what the world call cheap shit it's amazing. People don't seem to remember that those gorgeous vintage les pauls were at one point time pawn shop guitars picked up by those late 60s greats cuz they were cheap but awesome. Thanks for not talking gear even though your one of the few on youtube who could do so accurately. 🍻
I always get a little extra entertainment for my dollar when a TH-cam guitar teacher say that they are going to give us an example of how not to play and every time their "bad" guitar playing sounds great. I think you guys have all been playing good guitar for so long, it's difficult to play poorly. Thanks for the lessons.
Hey Tom, I know you've been thanked here a million times over, and rightfully so. I just wanted to say thanks because unfortunately I don't get to isolate myself, as my job is considered essential, and with the added stress right now, I look forward to the end of my shifts, to come home and watch these videos. For 13-17 minutes I get to forget about my work day, your videos are insightful and entertaining. I hope you get to do some more of these when all of this over. Cheers dude, and stay safe.
Man I love your stuff, thank you so much - been watching since day 1 of this COVID stuff and I look forward to your posts everyday!! HELP ME! This one stumps me - if we jammed that progression with my boys I’d say it’s in E : 5 - 2 - 4 - 1. I can’t resolve that flat 7 in B??! Can you please talk about that??? THANKS for opening my ears!!!!
Thanks for your videos! I am a rank amateur guitar player but feel like I have a cool, laid-back brother that is patient and willing to show me stuff. Your short explanation of how Nashville sessions generally work was all new to me. Keep that stuff coming. It’s also reassuring to know that not all successful guitar players constantly live in the high-tech world. Can’t wait to see an example,e of your hand written schedule - awesome!
Hi Tom! This week I discovered that both you and Robben Ford had started making videos from home. I love your perspective on "how to not suck at guitar". The focus on music rather than gear is refreshing, You bring some sense of normality to this self isolation crazyness. Keep em coming! . And Robben: well he's... not sucking either. Thanks, Rolf Martin, Norway.
You will become one the most beloved youtube music personalities, because musicians find themselves at home on your channel and in your presence.

I have a special place in my heart for Romania. I got my first royalty payment from 🇷🇴 Romania.
Man, I haven’t enjoyed practicing this much in years. It feels like I snuck into a master class clinic and nobody has figured out that I didn’t pay yet. Thank you.
Wes would you please leave the room. Don't make us have to call security.
Anyone else on here feel like we've stumbled across our own kind of Fight Club? 🎸👊🏻
Amen
Indeed.
Dude.... rule number 1. You NEVER talk about Sessionman club!!
First of all I love these videos and your playing 😊

Sly and the family stone perhaps?
The coolest viewers look for and rest upon the coolest channels , and here we all are . Carry on my man .
There is nothing better than both Tom's and Beato's channels.
I still come back to that video 4 years later.
Best song you ever made to me, it gives me the chills every time.

amazing song

@Timothy Hansen It' s utterly heartwrenching...what are the chords, do you know?
@Timothy Hansen I don't know if it was intentional or by chance but the intro sounds a lot like "Woke Up This Morning" by Paul Pena.
Hi Tom,
What’s your favorite Kemper profile for playing minor blues over major?
iCombs this literally made me laugh out loud!
Kemper sucks, get a Fractal!
;)
C#m?
...shhhhhhh!
"Microcube British Combo"
Your talks with Otis Gibbs brought me here. Your honest delivery and insight are appreciated!
Back to the early days for me :) thanks for these wonderful vids Tom, doing my best to pay the joy forward!
That intro actually got me, man. Busted right up into my feels. Beautiful, beautiful playing.
same here, my eyes were watering
Man you’re so chill and AMAZING
I'll be 70 years old in July Tom. I just stumbled on one of your videos that they posted on facebook. Now I have to come to your videos every day , for my "Uncle Larry" fix. Thanks a million for keeping it real all the time.
Still my favorite intro tune you’ve ever played! Gives me chills. I actually learned all of it from watching and play it using my loop pedal

I watch your Homeskoolin' to pick up one thing each day that I can add to my playing. If I do that it was time well spent.
Coffee and a new Homeskoolin video with Tom. That's the start to a good day. Thank you for continuing to do these Tom.

"It ain't the arrow, it's the Indian." - Great advice. Absolutely true.
Miles had a famous quote along those lines. Something like, "20% is the note, 80% is the mfka playing it".
This...this is my favorite episode so far. #4 is killer but this one takes it for me so far and I've watched them all several times. I'd love to hear this on that gold top
Yo tom your a poet man , so melodic , lirical , school of liric , so much soul , love your playing ❤
Great job Eric putting the Spotify playlist together, much appreciated brother.

Holy Moly this channel is incredible.
You have the coolest viewers because you’re putting out the coolest guitar content ever. Keep em coming.
Man, you daily loops are so fun and inspiring to learn and play over. It’s my daily bread. Your giving me months of ideas to explore. Thank you man!
Such a refreshing channel.
Man you inspire me to play more and more and expand my guitar collection. Thanks all the way from Australia
Where in Aus man ?!

Thanks so much for your time..BEST wishes from Spain.
Hello Spain!
Homeskoolin has definitely been one of the silver linings of the lockdown. Thanks.
Liked the second letter you read. Three points were right on. And the studio stories were great. The philosophy about "it's someone's dream" was really heartfelt, I can tell.
Ah, the flat 5. "Rainin' on Sunday".
Love to hear the wisdom and the experience from Uncle Lerry
Thank you for indirectly showing me how to practice with my looper. Watching you, I get better everyday. Thank you, Tom!
One year later, this still moves me, what a great song riff here. I love this episode
I have learned more about playing my guitar in the past month than at any other time. These videos are useful, instantly usable, and entertaining.
Tom, you sir have won the internet.
There are so many great nuggets of wisdom. I don’t know you but feel we are kindred spirits. Blues over Major is THE worst. Plz keep making these...
I've found that the more I practice, the better my gear sounds! Thanks for the channel (ing).
Hello Tom,
I Like so much your « Temper Profil »... (even don’t know if that mean what I mean...sorry I speak french usually, but I Like to play with words).
I mean that I appreciate so much the « tone » of your speech and videos, your authenticity, your humility, and your passion about music, Life, your family (so nice when your sons appear and how you’re proud of them:)
Thanks for what you share, you’re a great inspiration for me (even overseas, I live in Switzerland).
Much love. :)

What does he mean about playing blues over major? Isnt that a generally accepted thing?
I dont see anyone else even mentioning that so I am asking you haha
These lessons / chat sessions are great! Thanks Tom! Good times
Tom, thanks for the Monday morning soul food. My inspiration comes not just from your playing but from your obvious love of the guitar and your Hunter S. Thompson-esque approach to teaching it.
I get gold out of each of these. 'It's somebody's dream'. Good teachers slip in life lessons and this was one. Merci. PS more Tull. 😁
great embellishments on your chords, so natural and smooth.
Tom,
I'm loving all that you do and all that you say.
Thank you very much for sharing all that you have to offer, truly priceless.
I think most of your viewers like myself wish they had a mentor like you. Thanks for making that happen.
I just listen and play music , feels great .. thanks.
Stumbled by here today, took a peak inside...I think I may have found a new place to hang out from time to time...good stuff...thanks to PSC
these videos make my day!!, keep up the great work!!
Dude, at 2:14, those cascading downward notes are so damn good.
It's like being on the road with you
awwwwww....hello love!!!
The attention you pay to the tone and timing of each note is amazing. As a guitar player I realize now how much I struggle with the pocket. Do you count in your head as all or tap your foot ? What do you do (or did at first working it). Thanks for taking your time to support all of us guitar players.
Hi Tom: I found about this channel just recently. Beautiful playing and I can almost smell the musk of "old equipment smell". I'm catching up!
Tom, I’ve watched every episode. This was the coolest loop and lead to date in my humble opinion. Touched my soul. 😎Thanks!
Coming back to this intro almost religiously... one of the great sounds I've ever heard.
Tom, your over 10k worth of subscribers! Congratulations. I so enjoy these chats, and you.
Tom,
Just wanted to say a bought the first Trigger Hippy cd, which I was unfamiliar with. My wife and I really live it and listened to it all weekend! I have been playing 46 years and you are giving me some new tools and approaches that are really helping me a lot. Hopefully this crud will b over soon and we all get back to some degree of normalcy. Thanks!
Like....
Yoda plays Moses. You're the best. Thank you so much for these lessons. LOVE THEM!!!!
Tom, thanks so much for your daily dose of joy and knowledge.
THANKS for opening my ears!!!!
kfoxfour Agree, I chord is E.
Yes, it definitely sounds like it’s in E major to me too.
Great episode! Loved the minor over major bit; made me laugh out loud.
Your a Legend Tom, you and your coffee cups, thank you for the wisdom.
