Andaz Maui at Wailea DETAILED Hotel Review

- A DETAILED review of the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort including the beach in front of the Andaz, the pools, the common areas, the diamond breakfast, and the inside of a 2 Queen Mountain View room. I also stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui and I definitely like the Andaz better. The reason to stay here is definitely the beach. The beach in front of the Andaz is a beautiful sandy beach with excellent snorkeling. While the room rates are expensive, it includes free beach chairs, umbrellas, and sunscreen.
The breakfast buffet at the Andaz is definitely one of the best buffet breakfasts that I've had in a hotel. The breakfast buffet is about $50 a person, Hyatt Diamond members get the breakfast for free.

Awesome hotel. Beautiful. Will stay there in Hawaii. Love the practical touches like the free washing and sunscreen etc. Normally hotels nickel and dime you so much.

I lived on Oahu for several years and we had a gecko that patrolled our house looking for bugs. Most evenings we'd see it walking along the wall up near the ceiling. We never bothered it and it never bothered us.

I loved watching your review!! Thank you for doing this. Question: Andaz says they have bicycles included with your room stay to take out. Did you use those? Was it easy to get one? What condition are they in. Any catches there?

Awesome review! Got me so excited for our trip. We'll be staying 5nights at the andaz. Do you think it's useful to rent a car for the trip? You mentioned a courtesy car/ride how does that work? We did Oahu and Kauai 2yrs ago but didn't stay at a resort so did a lot more driving. This feels like there's so much already going on at the andaz I wonder if we really need a car. Thanks for the advice and review
+missT1806 With 5 nights yes you should get a rental car. The Andaz has 2 courtesy cars that will pick you up or drop you off around the Wailea neighborhood. .. like a 3 mile radius. Just ask at the front desk or valet for it.
yes, you will need a car. Wailea area is probably 30 miles from the airport--and if you plan on sightseeing, you will need a car
I have never seen a hotel with an open lobby before which I find really neat. The resort looks really beautiful, and the views look great. If I happen to visit Maui, I'll definitely need to keep this resort in mind even if there happens to be a gecko in the room. It will be pretty cool to see one (although I would still have the staff remove it from the room) as it would be a memorable experience as long as it doesn't sell me car insurance. Great review!
Hah! Yes... the gecko's did remind of of Geico! And yeah... the open air lobby was pretty neat. It's fairly common in hotels in Hawaii -- but this one was particularly nicely done.
LOVE LOVE your channel! My honey and I will be taking our first trip to Hawaii in September and we chose the island of Maui! Based off of your experience, do you think 10 days in Maui will be too long and we could possibly get bored after 5 days? I only ask cuz a few ppl told us we would and should've chosen Oahu and few others told us otherwise. What do you think!?
+MUSIC LOVER Thanks Music Lover. I guess that depends how much you like lounging on the beach. If you are going to Maui for that long I'd suggest staying in a few different hotels.. you could stay in West Maui around Kaanapali Beach, South Maui where this Andaz is..and spend a night or 2 in Hana. I think if you do that you'll have plenty to see. Maui is small.. but assuming you spend the morning at the beach every day.. it takes awhile to fit everything else in. And Hawaii is about being leisurely.
O’ahu is for cosmopolitans, Maui is for everyone else

Hey I have a question for you!! My fiancé and I are getting married next year and we are considering The Andaz for our honeymoon as well as the Ritz Carlton. Do you think the Andaz will be a nice place to stay for our first visit to Hawaii?
I think Andaz would be a great hotel for your visit to Hawaii -- I would recommend you pay extra for one of the ocean view rooms though. I personally wouldn't recommend the Ritz Carlton just based on location... it's really far away from everything... and it's a bit of a hike to the beach from the Ritz. Definitely the Andaz is the way to go :). You might also consider the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui too.

Hi, I'm currently reviewing places for my honeymoon in two months as well and this review is making me consider the Andaz for our first ever trip to Hawaii. In reading your post about visiting, did you get to go as yet and if so, how was it?

Hi Mike.. I really like the Andaz.. I like the smaller boutique'ish vibe. The Grand Wailea is a bit too big of a property to feel really luxurious in my opinion

Hi would you recommend Andaz to a family with 17 yrs old and 5 yrs old kids. Is the place kids friendly ? How about Hyatt Regency Maui?
With kids I would recommend the Grand Wailea. It's a Hilton property about a 1/2 mile from the Andaz.

If you are not used to geckos I can see how it would turn you off. The reality is that they appear in condos and hotel rooms all the time in Hawaii and they are completely harmless. The nice thing is that they will get rid of bugs. Don't worry about gecko's. They are friendly. I have been going to Maui for 30 years and see them everywhere.
Geckos are everywhere in the Hawaiian islands.

Thanks for such great review! We are going to Andaz in a month with two kids (4 and 10 yr olds). Is this hotel and guests kids friendly? I don't see too many kids swimming in the pool and I am a bit worried about our kids being the only loud ones!
+MI International I think as long as your kids are in the main pool you'll be good. I didn't observe many kids at the hotel when I stayed..but there were a few.

Hi Barbara.. you can sign up for Hyatts reward program on their website. There aren't really any good restaurants in walking distance unless you hit up the other resorts in the area. Most other restaurants are a 5 minute drive in Keihei

Nothing is complimentary dude it $ 600.00 a night nothing is free you paid for it...
We could have a longer discussion about how deep inside I *know* that nothing is free... but I like hotels with "free" breakfast... even though I *know* it's hidden in the room rate. Because it is a great breakfast, and I wouldn't pay for it if it was "hidden/free" :)

ha ha, gecko's are all over Maui, and, bugs are also. Have stayed in a room where there was a gecko, and one place with a huge cockroach.

If you like hearing birds chirping come over to my house. A bird family has made its nest in the front and back of the house all we here is birds chirping. Which I really don’t mind but what bothers me is the bird poop everywhere
