    Boss man I just want to thank you sincerely for this. I've had a badger 80 with a bad cdi for years and is now running again thanks to your video. Thank you for the wiring info

    Thank you! For me it was about a week of me breaking down and refurbishing my 85 moto 4. Wouldn't spark, went through all the wires, starter, solenoid, get to the ignition coil and boom my ground wire from the harness was just taped in place, not connected to anything! The coil was brand new so I didnt even think to check the connections until I saw this! So again, thank you!

    God bless you man! After a few long days, managed to start my 86 Badger. I was connecting the wires on my CDI unit wrongfully. Thanks a lot for this video!

    I''d never guessed it was a yamaha. Replaced the cdi on my father in law's g9 yamaha golfcart. 148 bux. If it would have been mine I would have tried the china cdi. Thanks for the yamaha wire color code breakout. Now if I ever run across one I can reference this video. Have a great evening!

    FYI. I just rewired my Moto4 with a Chinese CDI and I had to wire one side of the trigger coil to ground and one side of the HV coil to ground. And I had to trial/error swap which side was ground to get a strong spark. But it runs great now!

    great to see you helping people out with these ignition systems. I had to figure mine on my atc200s all out on my own without any references back in 2010 or 2011 and it really frustrated me at that time.

    I know the green wire is most of the time the ground . But on some red hot coils it is the hot side. I had a gy6qmb and put a red hot coil in it and it did not run .

    Harvey, the CDI for the moto 4 should be an A/C CDI correct? The stator is actually creating the power to power the coil. Thanks!

    • @HarveySpooner
      @HarveySpooner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Robert, If the quad, trike, or cycle will produce 12VDC, I like to use the DC version of the portable CDI box... But, U R right, the moto 4 coil should produce the ac power necessary to run the ac cdi system.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!

    I got no voltage from the red/black wire to power the cdi. It failed the the test in the clymer manual for checking connection between the red/black wire from the igniter coil to the single black wire that goes to ground on the stator. The other coils pass their own described tests listed.

    Hi I have a Chinese clone of a Honda cbx 250 two cylinder, I have the same cdi unit, but I got two coils, how do I set up the second coil? Do I just split the wiring so that it runs to both coils (wasted spark system) or do I need a different cdi unit or something? Please someone let me know, I can't really find information about this anywhere.
    Thanks!

    Hello, very great videos! Thank you! I have another question for you. I have a 87 Yamaha 350 big bear, and can find cdis only for a few years newer, 90-94 and 95-96. Would it not be possible to eliminate your "switch safeties and extras" that run into the CDI and just connect the trigger, power and ground connections to make a newer unit run on an older version? The connectors are mostly the same, and most of the safeties are the same however a few colors are different. My bike seems to have a slightly different wiring layout, that im not fully capable of understanding staring at both schematics. And on the same token, couldn't one make any CDI work with just bare bones connections?

    • @SeanWMODonnell

      My moto 4's cdi is a 6 pin, the bike is only a 4 pin, it came with 2 slots wired into each other with a short little baby wire.

    Hey Harvey, I was wondering if you'd have a starter motor and wire harness for a Yamaha 225 trimoto?

    • @HarveySpooner
      @HarveySpooner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alfonso, Where R U located, generally speaking, I do not sell parts, too much grief and too time consuming... About the 225, I would rather pull the forks and tires and sell or use the drive chain else where, parting out the ignition and started stops me from both possibilities... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

      Does it have an stator? There should me 3 wires coming out of your engine, two for power and one for the trigger signal (blue&white) you can check under your flywheel cover, the trigger wire is attached to another separate coil than the other two wires.
