    Pretty ingenious little ignition box that you’ve built there Harvey. I would tend to agree with you that one probably wouldn’t want to use this for an extended ride. But for working on and troubleshooting your quad or bike, I think you’ve come up with the perfect solution. Love your content my friend, keep up the good work!

Yes I get it to run the vehicle properly & lights &so on & we have to charge up the system that's why we need the stator , can you confirm this point.

    Thanks a million for the hack Harvey! Got my atc 110 out of the shed after 13 years after I made "the box", lots of cleaning etc and she smokes a little but starts easy, had my 1985 atc125m crap out the other day, Am I missing something on the 6 pin round setup? I can get it to fire using the portable CDI but it wont stay running, it will idle for about 20 seconds if I dont gas it. All I want to do is covert to use box setup, dont care about starter/headlights. ran fine but lost spark suddenly, cdi springs all gone, robbed a set from a parts machine and now same result, getting 90 ohms off the signal wire.

    • @matt-middleton7884
      @matt-middleton7884 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that atv uses a DC cdi but a good way to tell is this: If it only has a kick/pull start and no headlights/brake lights and therefore no battery, it is definitely an AC CDI. If it is electric start, has headlights, and has a battery, it is going to be a DC system. I recommend rebuilding the ignition system entirely so you are aware of what is going on, but that's just me.

      Radio shack is no longer open. You are correct.
      I think they closed the last stores in 2016 or 2017. And for a few years before that most stores had closed.
      Edit.
      Just remembered. Some store owners remain open. But they are not radio shack. The cooperate radio shack closed up due to bankruptcy.
      The few store still open are not connected. The owners are independent and order from thier personal connections.
      It's too bad they closed. But to remain open at any business you must turn a profit.
      And very few people today make things. People always give me sour looks for making something. ( it pissed me off)

      I've used this setup on several different quads, most recently a 1993 Yamaha Timberwolf and it works wonderfully. All you need to make sure you have in order to use this setup is a pulse generator on your flywheel/flywheel cover. Hook your cdi to that and you should get spark at the proper intervals. Good luck!

    The pick up coil on quads etc rarely fails. so you can easily wire in a Chinese CDi unit, whether it's an AC system or an DC, I have done it many times, recently on a Honda TRX400. not sure I see the reason for the battery powered system you have made ? Why not use your system but wire it to the quads own battery ? it obviously needs to be wired to the trigger coil.

    • @matt-middleton7884
      @matt-middleton7884 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      this is made for testing many quads, not meant to be a permanent fix for one machine. You can easily apply the concepts from this video to make a permanent fix though, you are correct about that.
