      Thanks! I have an entire set of those of all the AN sizes. I honestly don't know what brand they are however. They were a gift from the old owner of 9 Second Racing and I've really enjoyed using them.

    Thanks for this! I recently got a 2015 z28 and although I won't be doing this work on it, it's good to get an understanding of dry sump systems and what you have to go through to change the oil.

    Excellent tutorial. My hat is off to you....engine compartment unbelievable! Can you tell me the name of the reuseable oil filter & related parts please. What a heck of a great set up, i want to put your system on my C7 Vet. THANK YOU

      You bet, Bill! The reusable filter is a K&N 5002. The stainless one is a Peterson Fluid System, as is the pump and the tank. Thanks, glad you enjoyed the vid!

    Ya need a dab of antiseze on the red oil filter threads and put scotch tape on the red 12 an wrench so you dont score up the fitting or paint it with plastidip a lite coating so it will fit the nut

    How do you decide on the capacity of the tank you should use? Should you get a tank that closely matches the OEM oil capacity or double that?
    For example: A Honda K24 calls for about 1 gallon of oil. Should I get a 1 or 2 gallon tank?

      as much as you can fit. It won't hurt to have more

    Why do they use fine threads ?? And why not a sight glass in the oil tank so you can see how much oil is in the tank ??? .

    This was an enjoyable vid. I just started learning how dry sumps work. In a dry sump system, do you have a spec volume of oil or do you just need to make sure the tank does not empty? Or maybe I'm confused.

    • @DoesItTrack
      @DoesItTrack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This system uses a 2.5 gallon tank compared to the stock system that used only 1 gallon. It's quite a bit more oil overall, but yes, you certainly want to make sure the tank never goes empty.

    • @josephcitizen4195
      @josephcitizen4195 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DoesItTrack So the car needs 1 gal, and the system _holds_ 2.5 gal. Does that mean you could run w/ 2 gal and be "ok" or do you absolutely need 2.5 gal to keep everything lubricated and cooled? Thanks for the reply and I'm really enjoying the channel.

    What type of oil cooler do you use and do you use one or two of them

  • @andrewt9204
    @andrewt9204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    With that big of a disposable final filter, is there really a need for the mesh pre-filter? What advantage does it provide? I assume (based on the color of the drained oil and being a car guy) you change the oil and filter often enough that the final K&N will never be close to loaded.

    • @DoesItTrack
      @DoesItTrack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are correct, but I do like to be able to pull the stainless filter apart and easily check for material. With a disposable, you have to cut it open, it's messy, and not the easiest to see between the pleats. With the Peterson filter it slides out and is really easy to see the condition of the engine.

    I had oil come out of my breather on my catchcan. I notice my dry sump tank doesnt like being more than half full or it overflows into the catch can. Do you have any suggestions?

  • @brianc7646
    @brianc7646 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great vid! I am debating dry sump vs trap door wet sump myself for a mostly street, but race-able build. Did you have to make that pump spinner tool yourself? What is the process without that tool?

    • @DoesItTrack
      @DoesItTrack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I made that little Y bit that spins the pump. Without that, you have to manually drain everything. It just means that you have to remove more fittings. Not the end of the world but more time consuming and messy really.
