Thanks for the amazing comments, not sure where Chuck got that funnel, but the label says ASSENMACHER SPECIALTY TOOLS - Made for GM and Ford products Item # OFGMRD08 Hope this helps guys, thanks so much for being here
Yea your exactly right man. I fill it half full and then keep the oil level between the hash marks to prevent burping into the intake manifold. Works great and intake and valves r dry as a bone.
@@justinreid8851 I do my own oil changes and I fill my filter all the way up since the filter sits straight up you don't loose any, for what it's worth.
I normally do my own oil. But I went to our Chevrolet Dealer and had their "corvette techs" do my 14' z51. Just woke up to 4 quarts of dexos approved oil on garage floor.
Well Rick, I watched several videos on changing my own oil, lots of great tips out there, but once you see Chuck in action, it's hard to watch anyone else. Very helpful, thank you!
Awesome explanation by Chuck and great dialogue run by you. This is only one reason why I watch your Vlogs. Keep it up so we can stay informed. NCM Caravan registration in about 3 hours. Thanks again.
Great video Rick, I love went you are in the garage with Chuck, it's awesome to watch an expert work on the car. Keep up the great work until the next time GOD BLESS and be safe!
Great video guys. Always enjoy watching Chuck work on the Corvettes. Wish he was here in Wisconsin to do the maintenance on my 19 ZO6. Keep up the great work Rick and Chuck.
Hey Rick, yours is the best Corvette channel. I watch several other car guys and Corvette guys, but your videos are the only ones I never miss. Thanks for keeping us tuned into to the world of Corvette with your enthusiasm and expertise.
Fantastic. Chuck is SO meticulous. I think he may be the only one who ever touches my GS from here on out... the last experience made me realize that it's definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive.
I always like to watch Chuck work on the cars, always learn something.I like to wipe the oil filter's machined surface on the block and fill the oil filter before installing the filter and oil the gasket. Have a great week guys
What a great video. Very informative. Great to see a tech who loves his job and takes pride in his work and the product he services.👍 More service vids would be great. Thanks
One thing I do is wipe the surface of where the oil filter goes with a clean rag to ensure it is clean. The main reason is to ensure the rubber oil filter gasket has not stuck to the engine. A double gasketed oil filter will puck oil everywhere in due time.
Great info guys, although I'm still on the C6 holding out for the C8. Looking forward to your next vlog re: C8! Glad you're coming to Oklahoma; wish I could meet you guys while you are here!
Great video once again with the main man (Chuck) who keep those vette's purring! Have to say BIG thanks as well to something you may not be aware. One of my sons deals with some disabilities in his life. Your videos from time to time that contain the Corvettes going up and down on the lifts when being serviced makes his day. Thanks much Rick as you end up being in a constant loop here at the home for this and all those you have provided. Have a great week and thank you from a grateful father.
Man, Chuck is a real professional. Wish I lived near this dealership so he could work on my Corvette! Love your channel Rick, please keep these videos coming
Rick, outstanding job by yourself and Chuck, a very informative video; the video clearly displays, the passion that Chuck has working on Corvettes; may you all have a Blessed day; Corvettes # 1 !
Rick, this is fantastic information! Like you said, even if the owner doesn't do the work himself. At least he will know the correct procedure and process that should be done by the mechanic he is paying to do the work. Priceless information Rick. Thank you Chuck for showing us the proper way to change the oil in our " smile makers" ! Pete 🖐🖐👋👍
Glad to see he used a wrench to tighten, didn't worry about torq specs. When you've turned many wrenches, you develop the right amount of torq by feel, per se. I look forward to changing my own oil soon, the Vettes are just so low, gotta have the ramps!
Perfect information. I decided to do my own Z06 oil and filter change after watching this. It was a piece of cake. The most time consuming was warming the engine up to 175 before checking and topping off the oil. Keep the corvette videos coming.
Hi Rick! Great information, however i would like to check up on 2 things i saw . i only lubricate the oil filter gasket O ring with clean new oil....secondly depending on the vehicles oil filter position on the said block i ALWAYS FILL THE NEW OIL FILTER WITH NEW OIL THAT IS BEING PLACED IN THE THAT PARTICULAR ENGINE. This information was taught to me by a GM Certified Master Mechanic. These reason should be obvious . Thank you for your time.
A grand entrance, would be cool if someone arrived by parachute.informative vlog.i watch mma&NFL vlogs &they always turn nasty &political.you are one of the few that actually gets back to viewers via text.you are the Corvette wisperer&thanks for info on carbon 65.go buckeyes!
Dealer techs do not fill the filter cause oem manufacturers consider it a risk. Cause someone could get dust in. Fills so fast that they say no damage is done.
Rick, you always take the time to answer texts, thanks for info oncarbon 65.one of the few interest i have with no politics.hard to get away from that nowadays.
Sweet!! Nice Rick. I have not had a chance to work on one, yet. Usually, it's BMW or Benz,, Audi. No newer Corvettes. And when I got one . I will be doing the oil changes after warranty.
Hi Fran, actually Matt , the first client that did the update is coming in tomorrow, we are filming a Vlog talking about that and a whole lot more that he has done to his car - not sure when that airs, but will get it online soon as I can
didn't know about having the engine come up to temp to properly check the oil. Thanks. BTW, just found your channel, thinking of saying goodbye ton me 2SS Camaro for a new Corvette. So I'm always looking for information.
I finally got a chance to see this. Great vlog, Rick! Except, now I'm nervous about letting my local dealership change the oil on my future Vette you're gonna sell me. That said, having this video as a reference will help me to know what to look for and what questions to ask.
Rick, I know this is old but the C6 and C7 Corvettes have an oil priming feature where if you depress the throttle 100% while starting the car it will cycle the oil through the engine and turn it without starting the car.
Good vlog Rick. Chuck is a little more relaxed on camera these days. One thing I'd like to know, what brand is that big mouth funnel? Really flows. Yes @ 70yrs old I still change my own oil and a lot more.
I am not surprised you do your own... here is what I posted so far about that funnel Thanks for the amazing comments, not sure where Chuck got that funnel, but the label says ASSENMACHER SPECIALTY TOOLS - Made for GM and Ford products Item # OFGMRD08 Hope this helps guys, thanks so much for being here
Hey Rick thanks for the video very informative. I had a c5 coupe and thinking about my next car maybe a convertible. My question is this: never owing a convertible I am curious on a practice level. During those dog days of summer when it is ridiculously hot and humid to have the top down how well is the top in performing protection and insulating the occupants from the heat. When I had my clear top on I had to switch to the body color to keep that sun from baking me while driving. So that is part of my question as well as product and cleaning of the convertible top inside and outside. Thanks Rick I know you do a great job informing us.
Im sure tightening the plugs and filter the way he did it is fine.....and he has experience for sure. HOWEVER, using a torque wrench to GM's torque specs is quite easy and is really the correct way to do it....I believe 18ft lbs for the plugs and 22 ft lbs for the filter.
Thanks for a great educational video Rick, you and Chuck are the best! Do you have to reset the oil monitoring system? I was looking forward to this because my complimentary changes are done and now I will be doing them. With 10 qts I will make sure my drain pan is large enough! I love the attention to detail from you guys! I checked under my car after that new car prep video you did and there was Chucks documentation on the bottom of my car. Thanks again for everything!
This is going to be my oil change video for 2022. Ps. I will add oil to the oil filter first before installing it. My guess either way works but this is a little better for the car.
Thanks for watching , it really varies and depends on what climate you are in....without a dry sump that first does not have to be done at 500, worse case, base don how you drive, at least once a year.....if driving a bunch, I tell folks 6 months or 6,000 miles....the oil life monitor may not be the best thing to use as it could take a loooong time to get low. Temp changes etc can make that break down slower or faster.... so again no set rule...hope a little of this feedback helps
Thanks for the amazing comments, not sure where Chuck got that funnel, but the label says ASSENMACHER SPECIALTY TOOLS - Made for GM and Ford products Item # OFGMRD08

What oil filter do you recommend on the Z06? Mr. Metts is GREAT. A true professional. I love watching a guy like him who knows his business.
I enjoyed that video- thanks, Rick. I am a little surprised that Chuck didn't fill the oil filter with oil before he installed it in the car

Chuck is the best and fortunately I'm only a 50 minute drive away. Thanks for the how to video Rick, good stuff!
Rick, appreciate all you do for the enthusiast. Great informational vlog. Say thanks to Chuck too.
Great information from a highly skilled Corvette mechanic, and thank you Rick for this very satisfying vlog.
Rick, great vlog, it’s always a pleasure to watch a skilled mechanic at work. Chuck videos are always a welcomed view. Please do more.

Rick, yep I smiled at the last Vlog and love Chuck’s attention to detail even when changing the oil. STAY 💯 👍👍👍mike r. in NC
Always good stuff. Enjoy the tech talk involving Chuck in the service dept. Thanks
Rick, Thanks for allowing Chuck show us what's required to correctly change the oil in a Corvette with the dry sump. Another great Vlog!

awesome thanks Paul....so glad you were here and we got to chat....really enjoyed it!
I would drive the car around the block to heat the oil. Don’t let idle for 15 min.
Thought it was only me who did things the way he does it! I always put the oil to the top of the full mark! And use oem filters!
Put the tires at 35psi psi per GM TSB for bent wheels on ZO6.
I wish we could have a chuck at every GM dealership. I would definitely have chuck change my oil.
