One of the Greatest of our Time, I'm 68 and a Child of the Dylan times , But this man Shows his love for his Mother Country threw his Lyrics , Verse and Acting ❤
This movie is one of the best in the world. Wim Wenders created something beautiful and touching. He had the right inspiration for the locations, actors and composer. It's a pity that the Oscars didn't notice this. But Cannes saw the value of this movie and credited it well. ❤
According to Wenders, the American reaction was something like "who are you to tell us about our country?" in so many words. Didn't do well at the box office here.
Mr Stanton, Wim Wenders, both greats, poets, the history is a simple one but exceptionally narrated, powerful, rich, this is one of the best movies I have seen, and the music of Ry Cooder is exceptional; I do not understand why Stanton was not honored with an Oscar nomination, or Wenders, as well as Ry Cooder for his music , may be this movies is so sensitive, human and spiritual that reach just a few persons; it is no banal, no easy, or commercial or trivial like many others
The music, the story, the scenery, what more could one ever ask for in an unusual, exceptional, beautiful music! Takes you into a different world, one that has a lasting and profound effect for days, if not longer!
I am 70 years and not in my entire life has any work of art, music, poetry or prose had such an effect on me as this. I am so grateful for Mr. Stanton and that this was made.
I am almost 70. My dad used to take me on alot of his job sites way out in the deserts and canyons when I was only 6 or 7. This music reminds me of him. And so does every sun rise and sunset. I miss him horribly
Beautiful song, beautiful words, beautiful guitar. How sad that Mexico itself is being torn apart to feed the addictions of the USA. Quiero llorar para todos los Mexicanos.
@@coxhoe789 Innate? Or all learned? Wtf you may ask as to what I'm speaking of? Your smug entitled f*%king conservative know it all, finger wagging . It will also get you a swift kick in the ass from this writer. GFY
He was not "underappreciated" by me, Mack! ..a lot of others, probably--not sure, but I just loved him... his acting, his singing, his sweet humility, et al. Sooo talented in so many ways! If you've never seen my favorite movie, "Where The Lilies Bloom", please get it from Amazon or somewhere, and watch it. Harry Dean & a teenaged girl share star billing. ("Opie's" father, Rance Howard, is in it too, but not the star.) My husband and our (grown) children weren't even interested in watching it w/me, but I finally convinced them, and they ALL just loved it!! So much so, that a year later, we wanted to watch a movie one night after dinner when our 'kids' were here, & someone said, "How about that movie with 'Lillies' in the name?" And the others chimed in, "YEAH!! That was great.. let's watch THAT." I was glad to have someone to watch it w/me again, b/c I never tire of seeing it!
This is an ancient mexican song. Typically sung by Mexicans who are far away from their homeland and are missing it. The brasilians have a word for it - saudade.
Thank you for crediting the author of this song that flows from the soul of the Mixtecan people. It is one of the most beautiful on this earth. Thanks too for crediting one of the greatest actors of the last half century for his singing. Not all posts of this do that. HDS was consigned to be a character actor by the Hollywood establishment, but if you talked to those in Hollywood who valued the craft of acting over the shallow la-la world of stardom, they would all tell you that one of the greatest masters of the acting craft was HDS. RIP, unsung legend.
Yes, friends, I agree with many of the phrases that you say. Harry Dean was a great actor and a very good person, Win Wenders an exceptional director and Ry Cooder did the best musical work of him with this amazing musical soundtrack to the movie. The Mixteca song summarizes in a single song all the soul and feeling that is felt in the film. It is a very special song that fixes or knows how to listen to many broken hearts. You will always be in our hearts, best regards
I don't know why, but I just explode in tears hearing this!!! The gentle touches of Wim Wenders and Ry Cooder's magic to this epic mexican beauty, embodied by Harry Dean Stanton.
Mexico today has two young champions of its people. They happen to be of Mixtecan heritage and they have also performed this beautiful song, which belongs to their people. Their names are Sheyla and Emily Rosas, they live in San Marcos CA, and they perform as "Dueto Dos Rosas". Their soaring harmonies in scores of posted songs have had millions of views on TH-cam, Spotify, etc. Their mission is to preserve the cultural heritage of their forebears. They decided as young teens to teach themselves requinto guitar and dozens of campirana songs. They are cultural heroes, and have been honored in Oaxaca for that. They are IMO the best young music duo in North America. Please look them up and support them.
I have come to the conclusion that this is the best piece of music I have ever heard. It only has to play a few notes to light a fire in me and sweep me away. It is beyond my level of comprehension.
'I knew this person...' I never met him, but through his soulful singing, I knew him and I'm sitting here in tears as I just learned of his passing. I feel like I lost a close friend.
I read he loved to sing, play music & act & if he chose to act, he could do all three! I had never heard him sing & just found this out today! I had no idea he sang this! A most amazing talented man, he was! Right up till the end! ♥️🙌🏼⭐️
How can one not love this music , and have it fill their heart with feelings of respect for life?? You might not understand the words , but the implicit feelings are there to be fully appreciated!
This is one of the best films ever. The music is amazing. Sadly the great cinematographer of it Robby Mueller just died. He also did To Live In Die & LA and so many .. ✔ this beautiful fiim out.
vazmo14850 yes this film shattered me into pieces .it still does.I dont know if i have courage to watch it again because the emotional impact is too much.
Harry Dean Stanton sings so beautifully and with such sensitivity. He could have had a heck of a musical career had he decided against acting. Looks like he chose to focus on acting. Well, he is magnificent at that, too :)
+Peter De Cuyper Harry Dean does a wonderful version of "Beyond the Border Line on a Ry album from years ago. That was also a lovely ballad from a jack Nicolson movie of a similar name.
I was too young to appreciate the movie when it came out. 23 and a straight arrow Conservative I was a little disgusted by the filth. Now at 64 I'll give it another chance
As an added piece of trivia: Don Juan sings this song to Carlos while advising him to fix his distorted spirit while they search for a place of power. The chapter is "The Mood Of A Warrior"from the book "JouneyTo Ixtlan", by Carlos Castaneda.
Beautiful I did not know that Sam Shepard died. That's what happens when you live in Mexico and forget to read the newspapers. Hope Ry Cooder is still out there? i would like to see the film again now that I am a senior citizen.

Not the type of movie most Americans appreciate, unfortunately.
