This was my dad's favorite movie. He and I watched it many times together before I was even in school. The image of the man in the red cap burnt into my mind for years and I couldn't remember why. My dad would always talk about visiting Paris, Texas. So much that it bothered my mom. I'd always feel nostalgic and sentimental when I hear Spanish/Mexican guitar. My father dies and 5 years later I stumble upon this. I don't know what to say.
The music is hypnotic! It has some outer world power and feel. I am sorry that your father has passed. Maybe sometime in the future you will indeed visit Paris Texas.
Sargeant saxophone, did your father ever get to go to Paris, Texas? And did he want to go before he watched the movie? or after? I mean, was it because of the movie? I truly love this movie and song.
I'm mexican... when i see the clip of this song, i started to cry... Ry Cooder could express the pain and nostalgic of this amazing song... even, also the fact that singer could paint the sad of this song... my favorite version...
Let us all honor the fact that it is one of America's greatest actors singing this most impossibly beautiful song. Known for years as a great character actor and beloved and admired by others in LaLa Hollywood who knew real greatness, Harry Dean Stanton never won a major award, and "Paris, Texas" was his only substantial lead role. Yet he was the very best at his craft. . And he was not a professional singer, yet he does the greatest singing job ever with this extraordinary song, and the great craftsman that he was, he gets all of the powerful emotions of this song just right. HDS kept singing this song until he was 91. RIP, Unsung Legend.
Simply tears me up every time I hear this. Both the instrumental version and the version (this one) where Harry Dean Stanton sings this heart-breaking ranchera. I was working on a creative project in NYC once and this soundtrack was playing - when this came on I stood where I was and bawled. Much to the amazement of the woman I was working with.
And what a beautiful song written by a Mexican Composer born in Oaxaca! Jose Luis Alvarez! The Spanish original lyrics are so full of emotion! Love it!
Ry Cooder doesn't try to be the fastest guitarist, he concentrates on bringing out the guitar's beauty. His playing and Harry DS's raw emotion can soften the coldest of hearts. RC had to convince Harry DS that he was good enough to sing the song - I'm eternally grateful that he did. After recording his vocal, Harry DS said 'I can't stress too much how much Ry Cooder was an influence on me. Having one of the most respected musicians around like my singing reeally gave me the confidence to do it.'
The best movie ever made for a rough father/son relationship. Love is strange, and maybe he was too old- maybe she’s too young, and maybe you’re just too important to lose. Sometimes the only way to love somebody is from the start; as a stranger.
The Kentuckian with the Mexican soul pairs with the greatest guitarist of our time for this kind of music to perform one of the most painfully beautiful renditions of the most deeply moving song of loss ever written anywhere. There is great wisdom here: African poet-philosopher and legendary singer activist said this: "The more painful the story a song tells, the more beautiful we must make the music. We do this to defuse the tension."
How far I am from the land where I was born! Immense nostalgia invades my heart; And seeing myself so lonely and sad like a leaf in the wind, I want to cry, I want to die from this feeling. Oh Land of Sun! I yearn to see you! Now that I'm so far from you, I live without light and love; And seeing myself so lonely and sad like a leaf in the wind, I want to cry, I want to die from this feeling.
This music means so much to me. I don't know what the singer is saying but the music cuts thru me like a knife. The music brings me to tears for reasons i don't understand.
+jamuga60 Im a huge Ry Cooder fan.. and if you like this song you will love Sailfish Evening from Alamo Bay OST. Listen here: redmp3.me/378137/ry-cooder-sailfish-evening.html
that's a song from oxaca Mexico, it means a lot from us , in the inside you might be Mexican if it make you feel something. even though I'm in London I've learned English in USA and some how I fell thankfull to USA but still sad being to far away from my home town
I'm mexican... when i see the clip of this song, i started to cry... Ry Cooder could express the pain and nostalgic of this amazing song... even, also the fact that singer could paint the sad of this song... my favorite version...
Fun Fact: this song was written by a Oaxacan Mixteco musician who left his beloved home state to try to find work at the capital (Mexico D.F.) this is his song about missing Oaxaca. That's why it's called Cancion mixteca, because Mixtecos are from predominantly from Oaxaca.
Who knew perfection was a song lasting just four minutes and seventeen seconds...……...but that's what this song is. A song that moves you like no other.
Happy Birthday Ry Cooder! (March 15) My favorite soundtrack of all time. This song is so heartbreaking, nostalgic, and poignant. It's the perfect poem to lost love.
I just watched this beautiful movie with great a magistral portrayed of the characters, and direcction the script by one prolific son of the YS, Sam Shepard; so full of emotions, so delicate, and with the magical soundtrack from the guitar of Ry Cooder, I just LOVE It , and from now on, its one of my favorite movies of all times. Harry Dean Stanton RIP 😢 !!

There was a fire, a man, seemingly forgets about his past, about himself. The most important thing, his family. You don’t need anything else, this movie just showing how relationships can be rebuilt, the purity of it, and the soundtrack… this movie is like therapy , everyone should try
The first time I heard this, I was instantly reminded of Waltz for Zizi from Cowboy Bebop, and in someways I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie was an influence to the show in its nonviolent parts, especially in the concept chasing moments that have long gone with only opinions on what happened remaining.

That's Harry Dean Stanton singing this song? Seriously?
@@phoenixobrien163 Absolutely.
He loved to sing Mexican songs.
At 90 years old he carried his last film, Lucky. Have you seen it? Really great and he sings in it. He died about a year later.
@@jschuler53 You are absolutely right. I have seen it and love it. He played that role as only a real Legend can RIP HDS.

Your English is the best I’ve found because the deep sentiment comes through. Amy
Correction: Your English translation is the best I’ve found because the sentiment comes through just like the original Spanish version. Amy
i knew these people, these two people.......
That's just brilliant. So memorable. The best movie.
One of the best movie of all time🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

RIP Harry Dean Stanton. Aside from his incredible acting, what a beautiful voice he had. A real shame he didn't make album after album.
I have to admit that Hispanic music often enters areas of human expression unequaled in any other culture.
Right on the money Leo..............................This music moves me like nothing else can.
