Listened to this while driving between Kenton, Oklahoma, and Clayton, New Mexico. Great music for a great car ride.

I was once in North Scotland for three weeks, in a little island, working on a camp. I had no wifi, and on my phone was saved an album of RyCooder. I just listened it looplessly, things I would have never done otherwise. Glad I did.

Funny isn’t it, I used to go to the cinema regularly but I remember listening to the soundtrack of Paris,Texas more than any other sound track. And since have followed Ry Cooder’s music with all it’s twists and turns with great pleasure. Regards

I never realised that until I experienced heart break that Paris, Texas is - in the first instance - a man trying to reckon with grief. When he comes back to earth and family he gains that crystal clarity that whilst he has irrevocably changed he can still make amends. Not everything is lost but not all can be gained, again. That is living, the snakes and ladders of it all.

Dentist I had as a kid suggested Ry Cooder once. Paid no attention, too busy w/this punk rock thing I'd discovered. Maybe now because of my age (49) an livin' on a farm I've really taken to Mr. Cooder's music. Thank you Dr. Stroll! P.S.- It makes me smile an I still have all my teeth.

As soon as I as I saw Paris, Texas in '84 at a local art theatre I rushed to the nearby record shop and bought the soundtrack. The Ry Cooder score is haunting and adds another layer to the story of Travis, Hunter, and Jane. Most will be very bored with the film and abandon it within thirty minutes, but hopefully they will hang in and get into the mood of the story. I love the relationship between Travis and Hunter. One of the most devastating lines in the film is when Travis is told that he's been gone for three years and he asks "Is that a long time?" , to which his brother responds "It is to a little boy. " It is a remarkable film. It was a refreshing and much needed change from the Hollywood junk on that time. I was hungry for this.

I always feel this track evokes feelings of loneliness, solitude, isolation and sadness as opposed to being relaxing. The intro and outro sections in particular are the most beautiful and sad pieces of music. Very moving.

Music specifically written for a movie with themes of loneliness, solitude, isolation and sadness evokes feelings of... loneliness, solitude, isolation and sadness. Thank you for your insight. I had no idea Paris, Texas wasn't a movie about relaxation! I must have watched it all wrong
Also, this track plays during one of the most anxious moments of the entire movie

this is just such a beautiful track, probably the one track that deviates the most significantly from the 'Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground' , Blind Willie Johnson template from which most of the Paris, Texas soundtrack was drawn.
it's just amazing, I would nominate it as one of my very very very fucking favourite pieces of music, I just love it :-)

Interesting comments...loneliness versus relaxing....if one follows the sound and tries to make something of it: it starts very slow, lose, and open, with no real ideas of where to go, then it starts getting organised and up tempo as if to say: "OK, let's do it, let's face it!, we can make it.."...whatever it is.....only to reach another place, where one needs to stop....and start again, another time....is this a metaphor of life? ...I think it is...in any case it is a brilliant piece of music.
