  • Quick video on replacing the steering cable on a single motor Yamaha Jet Boat. The same methods could also help a dual motor setup. F3A-U1470-01-00

I've been trying to knock the cable assembly free into the bilge and nothing has worked. Has anyone else really struggled with this? I removed the washer and bolt on the transom side and removed all visible silicone on both the transom and bilge side with no luck. I even heated the threaded bolt to try and loosen anything that could be in the passthrough.

Help, do those cables sometimes get bent back down under there. My throttle is stiff due to my boat sucking a wakeboard rope got sucked under. I think the rope pulled the cable rod or bent the rod to the bucket.

What was the initial problem you were having that prompted you to do this repair or even to look for an issue? The reason I found your video is I’m looking for a solution to my problem which is… I have a twin engine Yamaha, 242 Limited. When I take left-hand turns, the turning is great. Nice tight, high bank turns. But when I turn to the right, out of the blue this past Sunday, I stopped having the ability to make high banking turns to the right. It’s more of a long swooping turn. For example, if I were to do a full circle with a left turn, that circle would be much smaller in circumference than if I did a full circle with a right hand turn. Wondering what the issue could be.

I had to swap the cable because it was VERY hard to turn the wheel. In your case maybe something is loose on one of the jets. If it was out of water you could check the nozzles as someone turns the wheel. Good luck! I wish I had the 24'

Thanks for the video. I just did the same thing, replaced the cable. I am having a problem. I have the linkage adjusted out as far as it will go and It doesn't turn left very much. Like, it doesn't extend far enough out of the transom to turn it very far left. Any suggestions on that? I thought about trying to get an extender, but then it may not turn right as it should. I have adjust the linkage on both ends every way that it can be. I have searched for hours on it and can't seem to find out much information about it. Along with this, the steering wheel is way off center. When I try to center it, the cable doesn't reach out far enough to connect. I can't figure it out. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

That's very odd. Are you sure you have the right cable part number. Also maybe the routing along the fuel tank is not fully straight? You can pop open the fuel tank compartment.

      I think you'll need: F3R-U1470-00-00
      www.boats.net/product/yamaha/F3R-U1470-00-00
Search for that part number. You can get them even AMZ or eBay if not at that site.
