Leon . I have removed 100s of steering wheels boats and cars in my days. the trick is to install the center nut loose , grab wheel at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock and pull and rocking the wheel or 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock it will come off if you pull hard enough . make sure the nut is on enough threads or you will literally Eat the steering wheel LOL . hope this helps .
We tried that, was practically breaking the column, it was ridiculous. With the wheel being flexible plastic the rocking you describe was being absorbed by the flex in the plastic.
Leon it sounds like when i do a product on the motorhome. Looks simple but a pain in ass by time i am done hope everyone is healthy and stay safe. David and Marie
Question.... my 2016 SX190 has a ton of play on the steering... its like I have to move it 2" for it to actually start turning. Is this the same on yours? Also I basically have 270 degrees of steering. Is that normal too? Thanks in advance.
When you say you have to move it 2" for it to actually start turning, are you referring to until the boat starts turning or the jet pump itself? The moment you start turning the wheel the jet nozzle should be moving, it may take more turning until the boat responds, but there should be no play at all. Observe it while on the trailer. Yes, there is not a lot of turning on a jet boats steering wheel, that is normal. Hope that helps Alberto. Thanks for watching!
did you try pb blaster .. should have drill hole from side sprayed PB into hole then turned wheel back forth .... crazy but looks awesome ... i will keep stock after seeing that lol
Looks good ,but definitely not worth the trouble. I think a little strip of red pin strip on the wheel would be good enough for me. That’s what Ford did on the raptor steering wheel. Thanks for the video!
wow, feel your pain, what should have been such an easy upgrade turned into this. been there, not with the stearing wheel but other boat upgrades. keep up the good work!
thankyou for showing what can go wrong appreciate it.
I'm glad I can laugh about it now. Thanks for watching Sam!
Omg 😱
What, a chore you had. I absolutely love the new one. Great video
Be well
Be safe
Thanks Kevin, and thanks for watching.

Why do manufacturers make it so difficult to replace this component??
I don’t think it’s intentional. The design of the spline ensures it doesn’t get loose or come off, a bit over kill actually.
The videos just get better and better! Keep 'em coming, capt!
You're not crazy, I had the same issue. I painted one of the forks in the Yamaha logo to designate forward. Your new wheel looks good though!
Great video man!
Thanks Joseph and thanks for watching!

@@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore thanks for the response. Yes mine has 2" play before the pump moves.... So the steering gear box must be dead ..

Jay, I used PB blaster and let it soak for a day as well, not to mention hammer taps over and over, crazy but happy now.
You seem to do a lot of ocean water adventures, my boat is lake water only and sits in my garage never parked outside...
No choice, I live on an Island surrounded by salt water!
@@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore yup I get it. We have both around us but I stay in lake water. Salt 🧂 no Bueno!!

Thanks for the honesty.... I'll be skipping this :)
Captain Leon do you have a video of installation of the transducer for your Lowrance fish finder? As fellow jet boater I enjoy your vids.
Yes, it's called Yamamod 2020
Wow, that was a pain in the a$$. Nice job though. Looks great.
Thanks!
I do not recommend. lol. Don’t tease me with a new wheel and say that
What a PIA it was Chris!
