I have been dealing with throttle drop for years since I bought my boat and just put up with it. Couldn’t take it anymore and found your video which fixed it in about 15 minutes. Thank you for the awesome video!! Works perfect like it should now!
Thank you Jeff for putting this video together. Last session I was getting frustrated with my 2008 212X where I had to keep my hand on the throttles the whole time. Kept getting throttle drop on the STB engine. During the winter I added the hose clamps like you suggested and also added the Throttle Sync from JetBoatPilot. Got back on the water during the weekend and what a difference. As soon as I got up to the speed I wanted, I could take my hands off the throttles. Was even comfortable to let my wife take the wheel for a while. Thanks again, you have just made my summer a hell of a lot better.
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a positive comment! I'm glad to your 212X is back to it's old self again. I really enjoy doing these videos and it makes it also easier to keep making them with people like you leaving me awesome feedback! Thanks again.
Thanks a bunch forthis video. I just replaced what they call the remote switch is the plastic piece that attaches the cable to the stick. Keep up the good work I'm doing a bunch of upgrades to my AR230
I just did this tonight. What an easy fix. I wish I would have found this video years ago!!! Now if I could just see a video that showed how to remove a stuck blowout plug. . . . (not-so-subtle hint :-)
Thanks for the positive comments! As far as a stuck blowout plug, I am thankful i have never had one.......yet. But, if i happens I will defintly upload a video on one.
Hey Jeff - I’m trying to adjust my throttle I don’t have the throttle drop issue but I’m having an issue where my starboard motor is running at 7800 or so RPM but my port motor is only hitting 7200 RPM - the actual throttle arms are about even at WOT so I need to be able to pull the cable more at WOT only since at low rpm’s it’s in sync … let me know if you have a suggestion
Jeff, on my 04 sx230 my port side reverse is not engaging. As i chase the issue, i have a question... If I disconnect the adjuster at the bucket to move it manually up and down (maybe is not necessary to disconnect?) Will the cable.move freely if the shifter is in neutral? Or do I have to do anything else?
Hey Jeff, Thanks for this. Great videos. I see all the manuals in the DL folder. Do you happen to know where I could find a F70 service manual download?
@@JeffDoesThis thanks for the speedy reply. I have checked there. Unfortunately they only have the owners manual and installation manual but no service manual. Thank you anyway sir!
The throttles will not stay at the RPM you place them. When you left go of the throttle lever the rpm can DROP by 500 rpm or so. Also, not all yamaha boats do this but it is somewhat common. On my boat it was only the port throttle that would drop back 500 rpm as soon as i would take my hand off of the lever.
I know on the 2021 model you can so I would say yes. Watch the video and at 0:32 you will see 2 flat head adjuster screws. Clockwise to increase tension for more resistance when moving the throttles forward and back. Try that first.
Hey Jeff I know this is a old video but I am buying a 2006 yamaha ar230 ho today and was wondering if there is anything I should look at before purchasing
Thank you for ur videos! 🫡 Can you do one on steering cable? I’m having trouble with stiffness in mine… I seen a few on here but you make it more detailed… Thanks 🙏
Thank you Jeff for putting all these videos together!!! And I will be addressing my throttle droop issue very soon. Have you experienced an issue when backing down the throttles from high RPM’s and when you get to ~2K RPM and there’s a sudden drop in tension resulting in a sudden decrease in RPM/power? It’s almost the same when throttling up. Is this something that address you think my simply playing the cable tensioner’s? I also have a ‘08 AR230 over here on the south end of Beaver Lake.
Adjusted how? Did you back out(counter clockwise) the tension screws and the shifter is still stiff? Or did you tighten the tension screws and now it's stiff?
Hey Jeff. Is the throttle drop what controls the reverse bucket going up and down? Mine is down and wont raise up. Is this how I should fix it? Thanks for the help your videos are awesome.
Your problem is most likely the reverse bucket cable is broken or frozen. I plan on replacing my this season but I won't have a video until may or june.
My port throttle will "rattle" when in the first detent in no wake mode. I've tried adjusting the gate but that hasn't helped. Have you heard of this? Just found your video and wondering if your fix might help my issue!
You most likely have play in the cable that controls your forward/neutral/reverse bucket. I would guess that when you put it forward the bucket is still hitting the jet stream and it's bouncing up and down slightly and it's transferring that vibration through the cable into your throttle assembly.
@@JeffDoesThis I think that completely explains what is happening! I've tried adjusting the bucket to get it out of the stream but its not working. Any ideas on where the play could be coming from? Or where I can try to adjust for this?
It might be time for new cables, the 230 series boat are over a decade old now. I plan on replacing mine this winter and will be doing a video on it but that wont be until November.
Jeff's Jet Boat - Yamaha AR230 & SX230 Yes I was thinking it could be cables but it’s a 16 with low hours. Used this video to see what the inside of the box is all about. Going to inspect it.
I'm not sure. If your lever looks like mine in the video then i would say yes. It would be easy to check especially since you can skip a step since you only have lever and don't have to split them.
Short term it will work but over a season the wire will stretch and you will have throttle drop again. Even the wire clamp can stretch after a 2 or 3 boating seasons.
Hey Jeff I have an issue I can’t find a solution to. Port won’t push past 6700rpm and port is hitting 8100 I have half inch to inch more lever to push before it matches the starboard. Any insights would be helpful. 🤙🏽

No the cable will not move freely, you would have to use some force to move it by hand.

If you have run out of adjustment you probably have an old, stretched out cable reverse/bucket cable.
So just the thickness of the clamp in that gap is enough? I used a zip tie, but port side still seems to drop a little. I hate these throttles…
I think you answered your own question. Don't use a zip tie and get a hose clamp and then you will be good to go.
Thanks working nice for my boat 🚤 my boat

Typically spark plugs will fix the low rpm issue. I use the regular sparks not the irdium plugs and change them every season.
