NATO’s Fascist Inheritance & the Long War On the Third World, w/ Pawel Wargan

  • To understand how this new Cold War might play out, we have to understand the foundations of the original Cold War of the 20th century. What was NATO’s role? What did it mean for the Third World back then? What does it mean for the Third World today, particularly those countries that seek an independent, sovereign path? What is the danger of rising fascist movements? And what are the lessons for anti-imperialists who live and organize in the imperial core?
To discuss this and more, Rania Khalek was joined by Paweł Wargan, an organizer and researcher based in Berlin, the coordinator of the secretariat of the Progressive International and author of the recent Monthly Review article “NATO and the Long War on the Third World,” in which he looks to the past for lessons about the future, concluding that capitalism cannot be overcome until the arteries of imperial plunder are severed.

@@TheKofinyarko No, I heard it all, they said nothing about the repeated offers to surrender that were rejected, and the American mass leafleting of Japan in the weeks before warning the citizenry before the bombing, or that even after the first bomb Japan still wouldn't surrender, and the fact that the US knew that, like the Nazis, Japan was trying to develop an Atomic bomb too, although it wasn't known that their progress had only developed a cyclotron at that point. Also, the citizenry had been instructed to prepare to fight a land invasion, which would've necessitated more destruction as well as loss of lives on both sides.

Watching this after the insane reaction to an off course weather balloon from China this is terrifying. In the 1st Cold War hawks like Douglas MacArthur who wanted to nuke China after they intervened in the Korean War or Curtis Lemay who wanted to launch a 1st strike on the Soviet Union and wanted to bomb the Soviet middle sites in Cuba in 1962, it makes you think who are today’s hawks in the 2nd Cold War against China in our government who are calling for similar actions like those by people like MacArthur, LeMay, etc. we are living in dangerous times with the US being a jingoistic imperialist rogue state that brought to the world in most cases only war and suffering in the whole of the 20th century and into the 21st. Thank you for raising awareness of issues that actually impact people and stupid issues in western corporate media. Quick note about LeMay he was the commander of the US army Air Force in 1945 who started the firebombing campaign against Japan and was probably also kind of a racist and I also think MacArthur;s chief of staff was a supporter of Mussolini and fascism. Final note on Haiti it doesn’t get taught much and if it is it is somehow justified is that the US occupied Haiti for 19 years between 1915-1934 where marines killed and tortured thousands all at the behest of banks in the US, absolutely disgusting.

Europe was socialist in different degrees and much of this social infrastructure still remains, hanging on by a thread for now. Greece , my country, has NOT been an imperial power for 1000 years and was given NO choice post WW2 into whose bloc it was stuck willy-nilly, nor over NATO membership (imposed, along with Turkey's, to threaten Russian access to the Mediterranean) , NOR over "joining" the EU - once again, imposed - nor over joining the euro.
Greece has kept out of NATO's wars except when forced to join (Korea, Iraq 2, Afghanistan) but even in those conflicts kept it's nose clean and left ASAP.
And Greece is not alone in "Europe" as an imposed upon imprisoned country, threatened, beaten up and robbed by the same "Europe" that Pawel Wargan speaks so sweepingly about. It would be a major improvement in this discourse if these distinctions were made, ie that Germany, UK, France are active colonialists, that Italy, Spain, Portugal and NL are semi-retired colonialist powers - and that leaves 18 OTHER countries who do not attack, do not rob and steal , many of whom from state level to population would love to escape NATO and EU TODAY and forever, not tomorrow.
Without these distinctions talk is cheap AND dangerous. Greece for one will not deserve future retributions made against it for being "European" when it has been a US/EU hostage for almost 80 years, kept in line by an imposed civil war, a GLADIO military dictatorship and the fake debt crisis imposed upon the country to rob its gold, 49% of all public and private money, and by now almost full loss of state assets to stabilise Deutsche Bank and other northern "systemic" banks.
Pawel Wargan should speak more carefully. And please note that I am not pointing any fingers at Poland in this discussion. I WILL say you'd have to search far & wide to find a single Ukrainian flag in Greece because we know too well what nazism is.

ANTIFA basically is against a recognized pattern of behavior... if a behavior becomes fixed they want to unfix it.... antifa are just "anti-autistic" in that they hate routines and patterns...

In a dramatic speech to Parliament on Friday Senator Sosoaca said President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, had upset World Economic Forum chairman Klaus Schwab by leaving halfway through a press conference and blocking Sweden from joining NATO.
“We have lived to witness production of earthquakes on demand. NATO disliked being set up by President Erdogan,” a furious Sosoaca stated.
“Moreover his position of neutrality and mediator in the Ukranian-Russian war deeply disturbed them. His position to block Sweden’s accession to NATO and his speech in Davos as well as the gesture of leaving in the middle of a press conference defying Schwab did not remain without an echo in the cold world leaders of the world.
“But no one thought that people would have to die so many in such a terrible way.
“But ten seconds before the occurrence of the so-called earthquakes the Turks closed these (oil and gas) pipelines
“In addition 24 hours before the earthquakes 10 countries withdrew their ambassadors from Turkey.
“Five days before its occurrence the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel warning for Romanian citizens in Turkey.”
These damning accusations are prima facie evidence of a deliberate attack on Turkey by Deep State using HAARP technology.
Senator Sosoaca’s speech will reverberate around the free press of the world but don’t expect to hear it on the ABC, News Ltd or Fairfax media in Australia.
The WEF tentacles stretch far and wide and now it seems no nation state is immune from retaliation or attack by the New World Order with help from the WEF if they step out of line.

1:14:55: "If everything is wrong, nothing is possible."
My God! That line hit me like a brick to the head! That's exactly how I've been feeling for years. Every time proposals to improve the world in some way are proposed, there's a litany of excuses that are paraded out to quash any hope. It's like, "Oh well. Nothing can be done. Why bother trying?" I've struggled to figure out a way to break through that, and I realize it isn't possible. The argument is a bad faith one, and you can't reason against a bad-faith argument. The whole point is to immobilize, demoralize, and breed bitter resignation and acquiescence to a crumbling world. Yet I get not wanting to have hope. If you've seen too much, too often had hope dashed, then you close up just to protect yourself. Ugh... That's depressing.

As tragic and bloody as it is, the war in Ukraine is a mere side show compared to what is actually happening between the so called unipolar world order and a newly emerging so called multipolar world order. It amounts to being a contest between a US dominated unipolar world that advocates neo-liberalism and a China dominated multi polar world that advocates neo-socialism. As for where this is leading the human race; the expression 'follow the money' is still relevant advice. The global economic centre of gravity is migrating from its Anglo/American/EU centres toward eventually settling within Eurasia, where it will be kept economically viable and secure by a core China/Russia strategic trading and military alliance. The US dollar as global reserve currency will be replaced by a multiple of gold backed currencies, enabling more economic security and trading flexibility between sovereign states and thereby eliminating the economic domination of a single nation state.

Pawel is in a league of his own when it comes to history and political science. If anything after listening to his brilliant oration I have become a nihilist. I just want to go fishing. Capitalism has Proven to be an unstable economic system that over the last 500 years has caused more suffering, wars and an unimaginable number of deaths than can ever be counted. Truman and Churchill as you mentioned may not have been diagnosed as psychopaths, but they were obviously megalomaniacs, obsessed with power and how to keep it. Either way they were suffering from a severe mental illness which shaped their personalities
and influenced all their decision making throughout their lives. The ruling elites have seized power in the U.S. and only time will tell where this privileged cartel of billionaires leads the country, whether it be toward fascism or socialism that is the challenge of humanity.

capitalism has proven to be one of the best systems we've ever had. Capitalism has done far more and work better at coming up with solutions not only to fix problems we're dealing with such as hunger, or the current climate issue but also most of the big advancements that we've made over the last 500 years.
Cronicapitolism is the part that we need to eradicate. Whenever that enters the picture is when we see it going south. On the flip side Communism has also been responsible for much suffering and unimaginable number of deaths than can ever be counted. When it comes down to it, Communism and Fascism are two faces of the same coin. The only difference between the two is the path they use to get there.

    • @Moosemoose1
      @Moosemoose1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@76verdee Will you people stop it already with the "Crony capitalism" bull? It's all just capitalism. Capitalism is a winner-take-all system of cutthroat competition. Any competitive system of winners and losers is inevitably going to end up as monopoly and oligopoly simply because they form from companies merely acting in their own rational self-interest to defeat their competitors (remember the POINT of competition and capitalism is to BEAT your competitor to grow and accumulate capital). The whole point of government under capitalism is to manage the affairs of the rich and keep the country stable enough for the economy to grow - and who contribute the most to the economy? The largest businesses, since they hire the most people and generate the most wealth.
And you're wrong about Socialism/Communism causing "unimaginable number of deaths than can ever be counted" - Capitalism has been around for almost 500 years and has been the cause for GLOBAL COLONIALISM, the TRANS-ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE, nearly every single war over resources and conquest of indigenous peoples, countless man-made famines and genocides around the world, human trafficking, drug trades, countless death from starvation, poisoning, unimaginable poverty, strike breaking, crushing uprisings, lack of worker safety, exploitation and environmental destruction that has taken place IN EVERY SINGLE CAPITALIST NATION ON EARTH FOR THE PAST 500 YEARS. That means every capitalist country in Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Australia for the past 500 YEARS. The colonial period ALONE has killed 100 times more than communism ever has.
Whereas under Socialism not even 100 million people have been killed; 100 million is the highest number associated with "Communism", and it came from the Black Book of Communism. The authors of the Black Book of Communism - THE AUTHORS OF THAT BOOK - have disavowed and repudiated it, saying that the number is a gross exaggeration which they fabricated from meaningless statistics because the person who hired them was obsessed with reaching the number of 100 million and told them to pick whatever deaths they could find to meet that number. They said they even included everything from natural deaths to the deaths of Nazis who invaded the Soviet Union as well as children who never existed in the first place simply based on an ESTIMATED statistic about EXPECTED birth numbers which NEVER happened. It was all a lie. The real number was closer to 30 million over the course of 70 years, most of which taking place early in the USSR and China's histories during SPECIFIC periods like the great leap forward, WWII, the Russian Civil war and 5 year plan - in the 21st century Capitalism kills more than that in 6 years. The Capitalist King Leopold of Belgium ALONE killed 20 MILLION Congolese people with his "Congo free State" which he ran with his personal corporation - nearly as much as every single Socialist nation on the planet over the course of 70 years. Educate yourself.
Capitalism by every single metric is worse than even the most repressive form of Socialism and is the primary cause of climate change. CAPITALISM caused climate change, and it's not going to fix it, since every capitalist nation has refused to even try to do anything and instead have been fighting these last 20 years over gas and oil. You are a fool if you still believe it is superior even as its leading us all to our deaths.

All four of these words are not the cause, it is something deeper, or something far removed. These words are mere tools to verbally create a picture, to draw a wedge in between. Now Thermal Nuclear Weapons or Hydrogen Bombs are 100000nds times the destructive power of the 1st Atom Bombs. And the Thermal Nukes or Hydrogen Bombs of the ICBM class of Nukes. Have 10 or more war heads on a single intercontinental ballistic missile or ICBM. And only 30 of these are needed to be used to trigger Nuclear Winter. And the nukes in the world. Such as those in Europe, Russia, US, China, India Israel, and Pakistan. Amounts to well over 15000 if not more than 16000. That is enough destructive power to wipe out all living life and ecosystems for life sustainability on planet Earth. For 1000nds if not millions of years. Planet Earth would be a toxic hell for life. Only possible the extreme micro organisms could possibly go on living. At least carbon based life would be not able to come back for more than likely millions of years if at All. Earth would be a wasteland which even nuclear bunkers and orbital space station to house the select few could wait out to repopulate the Earth. Technology is simply not there to wait it out. And traveling to another planet also has the lack of technology to make it possible. Hell we don't even have a planet other than Earth to support Life. And even if we built a Moon or other colonies. We still have the problem of lack of gravity or gravity so low that it would more than likely kill us off anyway. So a thermal Nuclear war is out of the Question. And the use of Tactical Nukes will only trigger Nuclear Armageddon. And it won't be Russia or China who will trigger Nuclear Armageddon. It will be the Insane in the US and West.

It makes me so happy to see that US NATO and Ukraine are all losing the war against Russia 🇷🇺. I am an American citizen, but I do not stand for bullying, nor corrupt governments like the US pretends it’s not and points the finger to everybody else. This is a loser, mentality, and an ugly American attribute that finally shines light on itself

Sorry this is not how I see it. Nato always knew that ukraine will not win, there are plenty of documents... as such NATO is very successful in exterminating slavs. I guess they did not learn the lesson from WWII...

Nice! Pretty concise overview of where we're at. Appreciate the awareness of material needs as anchoring strategies and sovereignties.
We should take heart in the ferment that's going on in decolonization spaces in the West. There's a rebirth of Indigenous thinking and doing, that's quite awe-inspiring.
A subtheme, not directly addressed, likely because it would have added an hour at least, is the CIA's unrelenting, well-funded campaign of anti-communism, globally. Tactics ranging from payoff and intimidation of journalists, secret funding of cultural groups, all the way to racist mass murder and warmaking. All in the service of the broad imperial goals and strategies so clearly discussed in this video.
I think a key part of leftist platforms, anywhere in the world, has to be a plank calling for the CIA's abolition. Draw up an indictment; plenty of source material out there now. Build the pressure, keep pushing.
Circling back to the genocide of Indigenous people, equal pressure needs to be put on rescinding and repudiating the Doctrine of Christian Discovery. Some excellent sources there. Try the Redthought webinars; long form discussions but absolutely key.
It's exciting to see forces for change coalescing, at the same time deeply agonizing to see the suffering taking place while we struggle to find a renewed path of peace.

I think what most people, if not everyone, realizes is he relationship between Germany and Turkey. Abd how Germany learnt about genocide, not just from America, but also from Turkey. As Turkey genocided and expelled the Armenians.

Here are a few supportive quotes - "So long as socialism does not collapse in China, it will always hold its ground in the world". I am always overwhelmed by the intellectuals populating the left and I always wonder why the sharp difference with the right who are usually mediocre or just average. I have been rambling through various philosophers for two decades and I seem to find my answer in Hegel's idea of Divinity through rational truth which is repeated in German Romantism of Johann Gottifried Herder. The genius of Karl Marx is in making the divine accessible to all those who are willing. What is clear to me is that once you are in search of rational Truth in human affairs, your lot is already cast with the left.
