That HRV with the new civic hybrid system would be a great deal.
they dont want to take sales from the overpriced crv hybrid which does not have great gas mileage
Having a Sport Touring Hybrid trim like the 2025 Civic in the HR-V Sport would be great making this a perfect vehicle for me, especially with the Bose Stereo. But even just a Sport Hybrid drivetrain would improve performance and mileage for a bit more $.
Someone at my workplace recently got a new dark grey Crosstrek Sport and it's breally nice. I plan to get an Urban Grey Pearl HR-V Sport.
I bought the 24 HRV EXL blind spot FWD last year. I had 8200 cash equity in my trade. I put 2 K down as well. I wanted a 23 Accord EX but in Texas, my insurance in my 6 months would go up 445. A civic was 440 more. The HRV EXL was 235 more. I sacrificed the car I wanted due to higher insurance. I paid 29,000 MSRP. No mark ups. I financed 20,500 at 5.9 apr. My payment is 342.00. Insurance is 229.00 a month. I’m paying extra principal so in 10 months I’m at 11,800. Don’t overpay. I got Milano Red, as it was the only HRV the dealer had. I got the show room car. So far so good. I’ve gotten compliments on my car.
I mean u kinda did overpay 😆, online the msrp is 29,500 , all they took off was $500 😂 I got them to take off 2k from the lx model with no add on
You can get 10% off msrp if you know how to deal lol
@@cormaro13 last year in my market Honda inventory was still lower. The 24s were just starting to come out. The Honda dealers were still on many models jacking up prices with add ons. It took me a while to even find a HRV. The dealership I found only had 1 left. They had sold the other 2 just minutes before I arrived. 2 other EXLs. Now you can find HRVs everywhere and on a base they will give it away.
I test drove and could feel how under powered it was when accelerating. Had to pass.
Damn 6% apr?? And you're paying that much for insurance??
@ new car loans are over 9 percent now. In Texas insurance is very high. My insurance now is 240.00 a month. If I had a sedan or hatchback, I’d be paying 340-350 a month for insurance.
I have the Subaru sport just like he one in the video same color and in my opinion the crosstrek has more going for it as far as accessories, wireless charging rear usb ports, fold down middle seat ,moon roof and more power and better milage, dual zone climate control
If you use the sport mode (you had it in I mode) when you drive the Crosstrek you will a distinct increase in acceleration.
Hard to beat Subaru's symetrical AWD system . IMO, the HRV is better looking and has better interior volume. But in every other way the Crosstrek is the better buy.
Yeah, I went with the 2024 Crosstrek Sport, same trim as this in the demo in fact. Better mileage, seats and quieter on the highway.
The HR-V has bad tire noise on some highway segments, that my Crosstrek doesn't. I kinda liked the HR-V I test drove, but didn't like the lack of power or road noise at highway speeds.
Also the Crosstrek is better off road, and I do go on short off road excursions.
Also I'm getting 38mpg with the Crosstrek on the Las Vegas beltway and about 31mpg mixed hwy / city.
@@MrEricmoparyou do realize that’s just a change of tires right to get rid of the road noise and don’t worry that Subbie will show it true colors soon enough 😂
@@cormaro13 No... the HRV whine is pretty loud actually. More than just tires. I asked people with older Subarus, what their long term experiences were like, and they all had positive things to say. They all kept their cars for long periods and way over 100,000 miles. A friend's mother died and she kept her mother's 90s Subbie with over 280K miles because it still runs great. I have neighbors with Subbies with over 200k and they still love their old cars.
On my test drive, the HRV is also dangerously under powered on the hills around Las Vegas. I bought a Crosstrek with the 2.5 and it's much better on the hills and also I'm getting between 36 and 38mph on the 215 beltway around the Las Vegas Valley, doing about 70mph most of the time.
@@MrEricmopar well stop pushing the little thing and get some awd and maybe it won’t 😆 just got a new one for myself , it’s a pleasant quiet drive here in Houston , too quiet
Enjoy that subbie tho it’s going to new a reseal sooner or later cause it’s all just made of out rtv sealant 😂 better change that cvt fluid often too boy
@@cormaro13 You do know the HR-V also has a CVT? Right...?
You do know that Honda and Toyota etc area all using RTV instead of gaskets nowadays? Right...? The laugh is on you.
UPDATE: BUYER BEWARE!!! HONDA HAS ISSUED AN EPS RECALL NOTICE. HONDA HAS ISSUED AN EPS RECALL NOTICE. And there are no parts available for the repair at this time. Until Honda Motor Co and all Honda dealerships fix this potentially dangerous Electronic Powersteering System issue, look elsewhere or negotiate the price accordingly. I purchased my HRV in September 2024, and the repair will not happen until mid January 2025.
Thank you! Glad I bought the Crosstrek ❤
@MaryPoppins-d1k Good, I actually traded my 2003 Forester for the 2025 HRV and also considered the Crosstrek. Maybe I will look into one.
I live in New England, so I really needed something that was good in bad weather. Subaru has these features that makes it better than its competitors. 1. Symmetrical AWD (full time). 2. Spare tire. 3. Excellent handling and acceleration
Entry level has all these things that were much cheaper than the competition.. Entry level cars are made in Japan.
Entry level has old fashion key👍.
I have not even watched this review but the HR-V is no match for the Subaru Crosstrek!!
I'd have to go HRV. A lot of car manufacturers are using a curve in the back of the front seats for added leg room, but that curve really messes with baby seats to fit comfortably. Had to ditch our older crosstrek for this reason.
I own a 2016 HRV - 106k miles. Love it. New HRV design is so boring. The Euro Hybrid version still isn’t available in the states. HONDA: please make a cool hybrid version for the USA. ASAP!
I loved my Honda CRV. I also love my Crosstrek. Crosstrek rides better and gets better fuel economy. Not sure it's fair to put the HRV in the same class as the Crosstrek. It is bare minimalist in almost every comparable feature. I get claustrophobic in the HRV. Cost of maintaining a Honda is less than a Subaru. I am going to buy a 2025 model but the HRV will not be on the list. Perhaps another CRV, perhaps a Crosstrek Hybrid when they arrive. Perhaps a Mazda, Forester or an Outback. I appreciate Ben Hardy's minimalist comparison. Definitely not enough to base any choice between the two.
I'll be car shopping in the next couple of months. I want a compact 4-wheel drive, and I'm eyeing the Honda HRV. With that said, I know several people who own Subaru's and are very happy with them. With that said, I find the seats in the Subaru very uncomfortable and don't like riding in them for very long.
I just test drive both today Jan2025 , I was a bit disappointed with the HRV, it is more noisy and the suspension of the Subaru is so smooth that I can believe HRV don't have. B/W console in HRV compare with big colorful in Subaru. Just correcting me if I am wrong.
Subaru got the best interior
A shame you didn't compare their AWD systems or at least mention that the HRV is part time AWD while Subaru is full time AWD. But then it's obvious which company this review was biased toward.
My wife and I have moved to Alaska. Both of these were contenders, and frankly, I really disliked the Subaru. Interior and driving experience felt loose and more like a toy than anything. Now, I know what everyone says, the Crosstrek has better AWD. Sure, that's conceded. However after buying the HR-V it is excellent at everything we actually use it for. No, we don't go overloading. We'd rather hike a hill ourselves thank you. Oh and wouldn't you know, most camping areas are just pothole ridden gravel patches. Again, HR-V does well. With studded tires, this thing does excellent in the snow too. Really happy with the HR-V.
Aside from the aesthetic beauty of the Honda, I definitely trust the K20 far more than the Subaru engines.
20k finance
Yikes.
Was the door on the Subaru fully open ... they are known for WIDE openings ?
How does interior road and engine noise (i.e. sound insulation) compare for these 2 please?
I went on recent winter test drives between HRV and crosstrek. I found HRV a little louder but it wasn't unpleasant. As it was winter the crosstrek was the winner imo.
Give the edge to honda hrv
You should take them both off road and see which one wins!! 😂😂. #SUBARU
Subaru beats it in torque, wonder if thats how it got the better mileage with the similar cvt setup
if you dont need an AWD dont get one. Sick of people demanding AWD and just drive in the city. Automakers see this trend and will cash in on it and then the repairs for a damm AWD is through the roof. IF you are getting a HRV it's for the Economy! dont make an economy car go non economy because you demand more horse power or WE.
I’d go Subaru.
thank you
no real comparison- no features mentioned etc etc I got nothing from this. Take it in the snow and you will see the Subaru wins
Subaru wins
Hrv best
HI Firstly: Beauty is only skin Deep! who cares about The Name of engine, its Fuel economy and The amount it can toe, NOT Foot lbs or lbs per foot. what the customer wants To know is 1.) The price. The Resale Value, The Cost of ownership . Comond Sense Things . If you dont have any Comond Sense These points will not register with you. one other thing to know, The HRV (Honda) is made in Mexico
And the Crosstrek is made in Indiana.
I disagree I think the Honda seats are so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so much worse to the point where I won't even buy one
Subaru‼️
Love it
Ben, you talk too fast. Remember that we're listening on laptop or pad speakers. Some thoughts were completely garbled.
And remember old man there’s a transcript so you can read and follow along , not everyone has that trouble and actually understand him 😂
Could you speak faster?
Subaru is direct injection = carbon buildup. (No thanks)
Aren't they both direct injection?
Yes@@coltonnelson8598
@@coltonnelson8598
No.
Honda HR-V engine is simple port fuel injection - not direct injection.
No carbon build up with that Honda engine.
Biggest difference is that Honda is making the HRV in Mexico, mechanics are skeptical of cars made there.
✂
Why Honda cluster has half digital and half analog gauge? It looks ugly to me. Why don't Honda just makes a full 12" LCD screen cluster like Toyota have? or simply a dual analog gauges like the Crosstrek? The only thing I like about this HR-V is its Hybrid, but if I have to buy one of them, I will get the Crosstrek, it looks nicer outside and inside, not to mention its king of AWD system and its Safety features.
The Subaru has AWD.
They both have AWD
Hrv design so ugly
Terrible presentation!
Subie all day
I prefer Suburu.
