Regrettably, there is an error in one of the on-screen graphics regarding fuel economy on the Wilderness trim. At 3:53, the MPG for the Wilderness reads as 21/26/23, and it should read as 25/29/27. The stated mileage is actually for the Outback Wilderness. Thanks to @Christian-kj4ox for catching the error!
So just bought a 2025 outback limited, while I was at the dealership I noticed a bunch of cars in a lot, basically in a field next door. I asked the salesman what that was about. He said they had over 150 cars get damaged by a hailstorm. I asked him what they were going to do with them. Anyway to make this story shorter, I ended up also buying a new 2024 Crosstrek sport for 18k. Was to good a deal to pass up. Yes it has some dents, but not that bad really.
Great review. I purchased a Wilderness 3 months ago and absolutely love it. Being in Las Vegas, the larger radiator, addition of an oil cooler and larger cooling fins in the rear differential are all huge pluses for long-term reliability (The CVT Transmissions usually fail due to burned AT oil which the cooler will prevent)
I'm loving my 2024 Crosstrek Limited 2.5L. This is my first ever Subaru having owned several Honda and Toyota vehicles over the decades. I briefly considered the Crosstrek Wilderness but 98% of my driving is in town or freeway road trips with the very occasional dirt and gravel trail throughout Colorado. With the added standard convenience features plus an option package my Limited is "fully loaded" beyond the Sport or Wilderness. I'm not a fan of the plastic cladding on any of the Subaru models so I went with the Magnetite Gray Pearl paint scheme so the black plastic cladding doesn't stand out as much. The Crosstrek is small compared to what I'm used to so that means being smarter about how we pack for road trips. I do like the 33 MPG freeway fuel economy and the large 16.6 gallon gas tank.
The led in the hatch is available aftermarket, you just pop out the trim piece on the sport, plug in the wire that is under the cover, and pop the light in. In the back seat although there is no vent in the center console, there are some vents under the front seats, that direct heat or ac to the rear foot well.
i traded a jeep wrangler and a w800 motorcycle with a sidecar plus 20,000 cash I bought a brand new crosstrek wilderness and after a month and 5000 kms i have made the decision that I like it even though some of the tech goes over my 73-year-old self yeah i guess I do like it and feel it was the change i needed in my life
I also traded a Wrangler for the CT Sport as I now have to drive a lot of curvy mountain roads on the weekends. The Crosstrek just handles so much better.
I have a 2022 Legacy Premium And Ive been thing about a cross trek and my legacy has everything that the cross trek has plus the power seat and it gets better gas mileage so I'm going to keep my legacy for one more year and wait for the hybrid model comes out in 2025or later, good reporting
Great reviews! I have the 2024/25 Crosstrek Wilderness on the way in a month. I dont know what year it will be but don't anticipate any major changes from 24. I fell in love with this car on my first test drive.
While engine braking in paddle shift mode may not be bad on the engine in that Crosstrek, it's very hard on the CVT. In that regard, a brake job is a lot cheaper than replacing a CVT transmission. 😉
I want the 2026 Hybrid Forester, if it will ever comes….. I owns a 2021 Crosstrek Sport. As much as I would love to get the wilderness model, I am not an off road guy so, will wait for my other option. By the way great review.
It would be nice to show the screen while driving just so we know what the screen is trying to tell us ... I don't know how to interpret the screen that I believe is on all Subarus ... Please stop the noise (music?) .... tks
Almost the same car honestly except for gas mileage and cladding. I wish they offered the startex interior seating in the Sport like they used to as it makes sense for the reasons why you own a Crosstrek. Thanks for the detailed review. BTW, couldn't agree more on the CVT and engine braking. Its an overlooked feature that if you live in the mountains and drive in the snow often come in handy.
I have the equivalent of the Sport in Canada (Onyx). I wish they offered the Startex interior and the transmission cooler on the Onyx. I swapped out the black wheels for a set of brighter wheels from a ‘24 Limited model for a little more flash.
Well, they are the same car… but if you take the wilderness trim offroading, camping, etc. you’ll notice that the wilderness is quite a bit more capable and functional than the sport. If you don’t use the wilderness for its intended activities, then yeah, they’re pretty similar.
I’d love to see a Crosstrek Wilderness Hybrid. And not the old Subaru hybrid but something done in collaboration with Toyota. Imagine getting RAV4 like horsepower, torque, and MPGs in a Crosstrek.
There had been a lot of discussion regard the "tow points" on the Wilderness model on the Crosstrek Forum. Evidently they are NOT rated or designed as "recovery points" and you could do severe damage to the unibody if they are used for recovery purposes. While a lot of people use their Crosstreks off road, and it's pretty capable, they are not a true off road rated vehicle for a variety of reasons. FWIW I do own a 2024 Alpine Green Crosstrek Sport, and it's a great car, but if I need to go off road or deep snow I'm taking my 4Runner.
Great review. The only thing I am jealous of would be the extra 30 HP. I still wouldn't trade my 21 Impreza with an manual transmission, hand brake, AC controls, and an real spare tire, if Subaru offered me the trade for an 0 mileage 24 model. 😂👍
Headroom is very limited as I found for a 6’4” guy, especially with the moon roof. I also found the driver visor too close to my left eye and could not get used to it, unfortunately. The S mode doesn’t increase the power, just the speed of the transmission, so a bit more responsive than in normal drive mode. Good, detailed review.
I do not want Subaru to change a thing the Crosstrek is amazing it is fuel efficient it is rugged if you're not going to go into the Rubicon this is a vehicle for you
Not much difference. My son has a 24 Sport and I have a 24 limited. The only differences are trim levels. Mechanicals are all the same. My son has the courtesy lights, but mine has the rear automatic braking/ cross traffic.

I was just going to say, my Ascent gets better milage. 😂
I get 29 mpg on highway, 25 mpg on city, 27 mpg combined on the Crosstrek wilderness.

I have the 21 year model same paint scheme & love the vehicle, tow a small 14ft boat & get 28mpg freeway , 34mpg just the family & dog.
Great comment...well said. Coming from Volvo here..... Followed your lead...and went with the exact same (even color) Crosstrek, thank you!!!

2019 legacy owner. Was thinking of crosstrek myself. Maybe next time
Great reviews!

May I please have a hybrid Crosstrek with a more modern interior? I need the low height for kayaks.

How is the ingress and egress with this Crosstrek Wilderness?
New did an absolutely fantastic job and I cannot wait to get to my dealership this week🎉

Good, detailed review.
very very nicely done video, top class
Thank you! Cheers!
You do great reviews.
Great review. Prefer Wilderness for towing, ground clearance and sportex seats.
But I don’t like the gold accents.
Crosstrek is long long overdue for a high volume Hybrid model
They had one and stopped selling them because no one was buying them. With a hybrid, you lose storage capacity and they cost about 36K at the time.
Why?
Just put a lift kit on the sport and a turbo and done ! !
Moonroof comes standard in the CTW in Canada.
Yes but, he stated “Panoramic” sunroof.
You’re right! My bad.
Air vents for rear passengers are under the front seats. Just like that had been for decades on almost all vehicles.
Your fuel economy on the wilderness is wrong. Its 25/29/27 (CTY/HWY/CMBN)
You're totally correct, thank you for noting. It looks like we used the Outback Wilderness fuel economy numbers there! 🙃 Adding a correction!
Crosstrek Sport to the Wilderness
How many blank plates?
One
One
Give me the premium with a manual (RIP 2023) and an aftermarket lift and tires, (for thousands less) and I'll walk all over both of these.
I get 29 mpg on highway, 25 mpg on city, 27 mpg combined on the Crosstrek wilderness.
If you didn't see it he did make a correction from the video I was like what the heck I almost made me run away from it
Both are good choices
I had a outback trim I crashed it by got 85 will hit black ice and yrs it’s covered
Wilderness could've been the best subaru if it is front wheel drive , than when you need awd just click of a button. Just to get better fuel.
am glad you comparing the two since the sport is just cosmetics
Those gold accents (interior and exterior) on both trims look so tacky...looks especially horrible for the seating accents for the sport trim.
I want them to redesign the crosstrek sport wheels I think they’re ugly personal opinion 0:49
CVT?nah
I do not want Subaru to change a thing the Crosstrek is amazing it is fuel efficient it is rugged if you're not going to go into the Rubicon this is a vehicle for you
I would've liked to see the limited vs wilderness instead of the sport
Not much difference. My son has a 24 Sport and I have a 24 limited. The only differences are trim levels. Mechanicals are all the same. My son has the courtesy lights, but mine has the rear automatic braking/ cross traffic.
