Agreed. A great figure thats a bit heald back by the arms. I'm with yu on being a sucker for G2 prime and you bet ill also be getting the scourge repaint
It turns out that the head is indeed on a ball joint that has about as much range as the WFC trilogy offers generally. The problem is that out of the box, the head is mounted a little too far back; by carefully shifting the head forward-or accidentally pulling it off in the process and reattaching it accordingly like I did-the neck articulation works as intended.

Epic review PerspecitveEnd!!! Your review has convinced me that websites are insane still having this figure street dated for release on July 1st. >:( I hope this figure appears at my local Target store soon, since this is the Legacy wave 1 figure I have been most excited to add to my collection. Keep on being amazing.
@@PerspectiveEnd You're welcome. Truth is I'm upset that Amazon still has Laser Prime still street dated for release on July 1st when he's already been found at Walmart and Target stores across the U.S. :P
I’ve been hanging out for this review. You’ve pretty much confirmed my views about laser prime. It feels like Hasbro heard the complaints about ER Prime’s trailer and so put more budget into the trailer at the cost of the figure’s engineering and paint. I kind of like it but not $100 like it which is its price here.
I'm exited to pick this guy up. I don't have a truck mode like this, I love the colors, the goofy stuff, and the absolutely ANIMEEE accessories. Legacy seems to be looking pretty good right now!
@@PerspectiveEnd all i said was the combined mode i pretend is the starsaber... i never implied that the combiner is what is part pf it, its just a big ol sword when combined
It’s been like 2 weeks since this video but I found a solution to his head being super tight and sitting behind his shoulders. Pop the head off the ball joint and then stick it back on before sliding it forward a bit on the ball joint. It makes his head sit in the proper area so it’s at his shoulder line and he can look down a decent range. TL:DR the ball joint isn’t all the way in the socket on his head so you need to pop it off and slide it forward a bit. Don’t know if you will see this but just wanted to let you know.
@@PerspectiveEnd Yeah, there is a small gap between the faceplate and the socket, so the ball joint seems to be resting half-way in that gap. So pushing the back of the head forward or popping it off it situating it properly should fix the problem. It makes his head sit a bit higher and closer to his shoulders while letting him look down a decent range
I think this video sold me on Laser Optimus. Maybe treating him as a different character increases his marketability. If I get this, I’d have him in the process of throwing his trailer at some Decepticons in a heavily populated war zone. Cause that’s how I see him: a more gung-ho battle-ready leader than Optimus Classic, who is willing to take more drastic measures(for himself or others,) to make sure his target is eliminated. He‘s basically full 90’s action hero, and would probably get along with the Wreckers. As for the eventual RID Scourge repaint, I’m not really gonna wait for it. I’m just gonna get the Netflix Nemesis Prime to use as my definitive Nemesis, as that one will most likely better accessories and better overall mold(cause I do still like the Siege Optimus, despite liking the ER one more). Plus, I have some knowledge and affinity for the Netflix Nemesis, in that I think Nemesis as “Optimus Gone Bad” is an awesome concept, despite being botched twice. I hope they actually do this at some point and it isn’t in something as bad as Last Knight or the Netflix show.
Absolutely this is the Frontline Commander Prime, the guy who gets stuck in with the troops every opportunity he gets. To be fair yeah, this will be more accurate to scourge, but I can't say that it's a better finger in any way compared to the netflix.
Congratulations on 7k I saw 6.99k before I went to school today and ran home hopped on my tablet to see and yep 7k congrats I've been a fan since you started this channel
Great vid, on the topic of its head swivel, I found that it isn't assembled correctly, you actually have to shift the head forward, and while it doesn't get looser, it does gove the head a little up and down, also the weapons have dedicated storage in the trailer, but you probably knew that
Yeah, I don't know what it is about him but he is just so fun, even if I think this is very flawed, I'm having the most fun out of any of the Legacy Figures with this one.
I find it funny how things change in a year. I used to consider this dude my definitive Prime and the best Prime I own. Now? Nah. I still love this figure but I’ve found the Netflix ER voyager Prime my favorite transformable Prime especially after I had to do a custom job to fix it and gave him the yellow eyes with the Gamer Edition Prime being my second favorite because he is legit AMAZING along with Megs (once you fix the knees) and Siege Premium Finish Prime being third favorite but kinda in looks alone. I now also consider this a new character named Laser Convoy (I’m not calling him Prime because I’m not having more than one Prime like Animated and it’s a nice nod to their Japanese roots) who is a battle ready hard ass but is a part of my makeshift Wrecker team. And still to this day I haven’t been able to fix his eyes. They actually glued the head together so I can’t open it and I can’t get anything thin enough between his brow and mask. Apparently they are light pipping eyes that they painted the receiver bit that I can’t use because I cracked the clear plastic and now he has a foggy eye
idk if anyones already said this but i had the same issue with the head on this figure, you need to pop it off the balljoint and make sure when you put it back on its at the very back of the socket hole on the head, this gives it better tolerance and positioning on the body as well as articulation
Thank you for your videos they bring me so much joy and thank you for Ashley a pain attention to your fans and Ashley Caryn thank you for taking time out of your day to entertain us (A I big dumb that’s why there are so many typos)
Couple of things you missed; - the reason the legs are hollow is because the sword has secret legs to store on the bottom of the alt mode, just like the original toy - there is no blue plastic on this thing. It's all paint. ...whyyyyyyyy...
I suppose I did miss that cause I didn't know about it. Though if I knew about it I probably wouldn't have said anything. I've never been the guy who shows off every possible combination, and the only reason I brought it up with the axe is the visible prongs on the side are confusing. And Yeah I suspected that about the Blue, if the face is all painted why didn't they use the silver.
I find it really annoying. It seems like the sort of paint that'll chip over time. Reckon it's so the colours match up for scourge (or black convoy, as they're calling him how). Dunno if I'll get him. Already have the original in perfect condition, so I'll have to see photos first
the cab is abnormally large compared to the hood of the truck. My dad used to drive trucks when i was young so as a kid i was around a lot of trucks. No trucks look like that, except maybe in Europe. I passed on this guy and Scourge because I cant see past the wonky truck proportions.
the title is just like the good old days where people like demolisher, tidal wave, scavenger, the g2 figures and alot of armada toys "where More Gimmicks than Joints" and some of them where fun
How many atoms are the Adams of your body made of. :P Anyways I'm glad you are liking this one, I think the gimmicks of this make up for a lot of the poseabilities shortcomings.
Actually for the sword and axe/shield thing can properly store in the trailer with some tabs. Not sure if the instructions show the storage for those but I did watch emgo316 video review on this figure as well.
Great review PE. Was never too interested in this one but I like your idea its a different Prime from Optimus. Though speaking of Primes I do have a confession to make, after having my SG ER Prime I think I’ve come to like that mold a bit more than the siege one. I still like the Siege but the ER just does more for me imo. Side note, really loved your joke posing this episode, Prime getting his balls faded gave me a good laugh. Also love how Warpath seems to be one of your go to extras lately, makes this Warpath fanboy happy.
You MONSTER! How Could you say this to me?.. You might honestly be the first person to tell me that. That's fine though it does sadden me just a little. Thank you, I felt particularly inspired this time. I just always have him handy, and he's a good representation of the Modern Smaller deluxe size.
I used to like my Earthrise Prime and then it fell off my shelf ONCE (which is shorter than I am, and I’m not a tall person by any means) which broke off one of the smokestacks. I kind of fixed it, so that’s… fine. Then, weeks later, I went to transform him for the first time in a while, I don’t really play with him much, and one of the leg pegs had broken off presumably when I dropped him and now he can’t hold together in truck mode. Figures shouldn’t break if they fall a few feet *one* time!
That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. I have said before the plastic on that feels a lot worse than on the Siege, I didn't realize it would be that much worse.
The reason the head has dead eyes is because the back half of the head and eyes are clear plastic that they painted over for some reason rather than just painting the eyes
It's cool that G2 is getting some representation. From that Covert Clone Sideswipe colored in G2 from that exclusive pack in Siege. That one Megatron from Siege and another in Earthrise. Sandstorm, Ramjet, and now this Laser Optimus Prime. With Jhiaxus coming soon. But I'll pass on G2 stuff. It's just not my thing. But this version of Optimus Prime does look cool. And hope for fans of G2, to have more Transformers characters from that era, get brought in to this modern era.
It always weirds me out that G2 has Fans because it's so Barely a thing. It's 90% just the Toys that came out for like a year and a half, and like 20 issues of a comic.
I have to agree with the posability in robot mode is limited mostly in the arms as they short and the missile shoulders get in the way. Otherwise this is probably the first time I really went out of my way for a Prime. I really love this figure as we don’t get Optimus as a tanker truck too often so he sticks out compared to what we had recently like WFC. There’s a lot to like here but it still has issues.
I gave my laser prime the SG starscream swords and there are slots on the inside of the trailer for the axe and sword. I made him a melee based fighter while my siege prime is loaded with ranged weapons
Laser prime is actually my favorite optimus prime design so I’m very bias, but I greatly prefer this guy to the ER prime, and as of now has a permanent place as my definitive CHUG prime
They probably didn't paint the prime head fully because the toy didn't have a silver metal skin but a blue metal skin, like the ER prime tried to do a more toy prime but alot of people complained he didn't look alot like the cartoon so they changed the eye color from yellow to blue, and the prime's paint job and overall look is based on the japanese 2006 rerelease, so it's good at what it's trying to do in paint and design, if they can put out something like this I would like to see their attempt at a combat hero prime
I got this figure the other day, and theres a major flaw in the head I dont think you covered... The head is 50% clear plastic, but its painted over... Its rather thin paint that can allow light piping in certain situations however that design choice can cause some issues, in fact, my copys head wasnt mounted properly on the ball joint in the box, so when I turned his head for the first time, it cracked a little, and now he has cracks in his eyes...
1:18 Back in my days... 5:03 Uhh.... ER Prime tailer is sad... 6:17 Yesss, return of sad robotman. Legacy never ceases to surpeise you. Yeah he looks cool in both mode imo. I like his colors. Great figure imo. Great review.

You ever notice the matrix that comes with this figure looks more accurate than the ones we got in the WFC Trilogy?
Can't wait to get my hands on him, this guy is to be the one of 2 Optimus I'll ever need... given my original plans of just getting Scourge are now abandoned
Why aren't you getting Scourge?
@@PerspectiveEnd Colors aren't what I wanted, though they don't look bad, so if I am to choose one of the two I'll take the laser optimus.
Will wait for the inevitable RiD Scourge repaint, but this is cool, but in my book, the TR Voyager Prime is still great.
Wait, why did my review do that. And thank you, glad I was able to entertain and inform you.
@@PerspectiveEnd You're welcome. Truth is I'm upset that Amazon still has Laser Prime still street dated for release on July 1st when he's already been found at Walmart and Target stores across the U.S. :P
holy shit having a bowl full of matrixs would be such a good cutaway gag
Too bad I didn't think to do that, and just reference it.
The adult in me is saying wait for the black and turquoise repaint. But the child in me is screaming we need both!
The Child is Powerful.
And yet it ended up better for it. Though I do really wish the Pylons moved.
I'm exited to pick this guy up. I don't have a truck mode like this, I love the colors, the goofy stuff, and the absolutely ANIMEEE accessories. Legacy seems to be looking pretty good right now!
If only the sword was also a gun that way it could be the most Anime.
When the shield and sword are combined i like to think of it as the starsaber from tf prime
But... The starsaber in prime didn't combine out of anything?
So it's like the Nautilator head then, there's like a dead space in there it can move into?
@@PerspectiveEnd Yeah, there is a small gap between the faceplate and the socket, so the ball joint seems to be resting half-way in that gap. So pushing the back of the head forward or popping it off it situating it properly should fix the problem. It makes his head sit a bit higher and closer to his shoulders while letting him look down a decent range
So hyped for the RID01 Scourge repaint of this
I think everyone commenting feels the exact same way.
Thank you so much. Glad to have motivated you to stick with me all this time.
Some already made a digibash, But I'de like to see a Bayverse Prime out of this.
Honestly Bayverse prime might be based on this guy.
@@PerspectiveEnd nah, Tiny PP
Great vid, on the topic of its head swivel, I found that it isn't assembled correctly, you actually have to shift the head forward, and while it doesn't get looser, it does gove the head a little up and down, also the weapons have dedicated storage in the trailer, but you probably knew that
I've heard that the head can fall off if you do that.
The "axe" is a reference to the disks the original figure came with and the flames are in line with the Reveal the Shield figure.
What do you mean about the flames?
@@PerspectiveEnd That they're a carry over from the reveal the shield figure and it works.
I got this guy myself a couple days ago and I got to say I haven't been able to put him down he is so damn fun.
Yeah, I don't know what it is about him but he is just so fun, even if I think this is very flawed, I'm having the most fun out of any of the Legacy Figures with this one.
@@PerspectiveEnd what's your opinion on the ball joint that the head sits on where it always has to constantly be looking up?
I got this guy along with bulkhead. I glued some yellow paper onto his face to give him eyes.
He is in desperate need of them.
I've gotten a few messages about that. I never would have thought to do that. Thank you.
I don’t think it looks bad but in way more excited to get it when he comes in black.
I think everyone want's a Scourge more than this.
I love this figure. Finaly we have big laser Prime.
Haven't all the Laser Primes been big?
Conglaturations on 7K subscribers!
Thank you so much!
This has to be the best looking g2 character
I can think of a few others that would rival him.
Thank you for your videos they bring me so much joy and thank you for Ashley a pain attention to your fans and Ashley Caryn thank you for taking time out of your day to entertain us (A I big dumb that’s why there are so many typos)
Siri you murdered me with words
Couple of things you missed;
- the reason the legs are hollow is because the sword has secret legs to store on the bottom of the alt mode, just like the original toy
- there is no blue plastic on this thing.
Already have the original in perfect condition, so I'll have to see photos first
No blue plastic?
Not even the head?
Really?
I honestly just enjoy this thing because it's a Scourge mold. Little kid me would jump at the chance to get this.
Adult you isn't?
@@PerspectiveEnd Nah like I said a while back I'm not really into buying toys anymore. If I was though I'd definitely get this.
I wonder how he would look in G1 colors, no I’m not a GeeWunner, far from it, I’m just curious on how it would look
I mean are these not basically the G1 colors?
@@PerspectiveEnd I mean, I guess your right.
the cab is abnormally large compared to the hood of the truck. My dad used to drive trucks when i was young so as a kid i was around a lot of trucks. No trucks look like that, except maybe in Europe. I passed on this guy and Scourge because I cant see past the wonky truck proportions.
That's a very interesting view point.
the title is just like the good old days where people like demolisher, tidal wave, scavenger, the g2 figures and alot of armada toys "where More Gimmicks than Joints" and some of them where fun
I didn't know people used to make those jokes?
@@PerspectiveEnd why do you think people love some g2 toys
I've figured out that if you remove the hand off of its attachment point and put the handle of sword in there you can give this guy an arm blade
If you are a fan of arms swords like that, then that is a remarkably smart idea.
Personally I'm not big on those myself though.
I can't wait for the scourge version of this mold
You would not believe how many people agree with you in this comments section.
As someone who absolutely loves ER Prime this figure looks pretty neat
It is fun but flawed.
This was a figure I was over the moon happy to see! (Being the ONE g2 fan in the universe 😅). It's really sad the possibility isn't better 😔
Hey, there's two of us at the very least.
I'd like to see the other laser rods make it into Legacy too. ;)
Are you excited for the rumored road rocket?
@@Wow-oj9ie With every atom in my body
How many atoms are the Adams of your body made of. :P
Anyways I'm glad you are liking this one, I think the gimmicks of this make up for a lot of the poseabilities shortcomings.
@@PerspectiveEnd thank you for the correction 😅
And yes, they definitely help! Especially with the superior trailer
Almost 7k subscribers! Congrats!
Thank you very much!
Actually for the sword and axe/shield thing can properly store in the trailer with some tabs. Not sure if the instructions show the storage for those but I did watch emgo316 video review on this figure as well.
I never look at the directions. And putting them inside the trailer is way cooler.
@@PerspectiveEnd hey man if it works it works
To be honest this Optimus is awesome and great and that transformation is almost like blackmagic 3rd party transformation
I don't know that I'd say that it's one of those black magic transformations, but it is cool and cleaver.
At least Scourge had that cab on his back in animation model, I mean, we all know Laser Prime is just pretool for him
Everyone seems to agree in this comments section at least.
You can literally call this guy Laser if you don’t want him as Optimus Prime
I go with just laser prime my self.
The reason the head has dead eyes is because the back half of the head and eyes are clear plastic that they painted over for some reason rather than just painting the eyes
I wish I'd mentioned how dead the eyes are. So the question is does this count as Lightpiping when it can't pipe the light.
Yeah despite the posing this is incredibly fun.
Okay if I have to be honest that original laser prime looks like the best old transformers toy
It was probably one of the best of the first few years yeah.
I like to imagine laser prime is a future Optimus from a dark timeline
That's also a good use of a Laser.
I gave my laser prime the SG starscream swords and there are slots on the inside of the trailer for the axe and sword. I made him a melee based fighter while my siege prime is loaded with ranged weapons
I like your style man.
Laser prime is actually my favorite optimus prime design so I’m very bias, but I greatly prefer this guy to the ER prime, and as of now has a permanent place as my definitive CHUG prime
I prefer him to the ER as well.
I’ll wait for the Scourge repaint to come out to get this mold. But loved the vid!!
You would not believe how many people agree with you in this comments section.
Can't wait for them to make a Toxictron out of this
Hopefully they do that at some point.
The handles on the turret are to peg into the walls of the trailer when you transform it back
I feel like the end cap would have held them together fine without pegs?
A year later and he’s a package refresh in United…
Coulda had Jetstorm or Tankor, but nope, this, again.
Just a core class Cheetor, pain
Or how about a Package Refresh of something people couldn't get easily in an earlier line?
@@PerspectiveEnd truth, where’s the Snarl’s at????
They probably didn't paint the prime head fully because the toy didn't have a silver metal skin but a blue metal skin, like the ER prime tried to do a more toy prime but alot of people complained he didn't look alot like the cartoon so they changed the eye color from yellow to blue, and the prime's paint job and overall look is based on the japanese 2006 rerelease, so it's good at what it's trying to do in paint and design, if they can put out something like this I would like to see their attempt at a combat hero prime
I mean they have the silver for the shoulder cannons.
Eagerly awaiting the RID Scourge repaint
I think that's what half this comments section has said.
I got this figure the other day, and theres a major flaw in the head I dont think you covered...
The head is 50% clear plastic, but its painted over... Its rather thin paint that can allow light piping in certain situations
however that design choice can cause some issues, in fact, my copys head wasnt mounted properly on the ball joint in the box, so when I turned his head for the first time, it cracked a little, and now he has cracks in his eyes...
Lightpiping my arch nemesis.
That's crazy. Sorry to hear that yours has messed up eyes, thought that does sound kind of cool.
YAY!!! Someone Cares about Sad Robot Man!
So far I've not disliked anything from legacy except hotrod who's only kind of in it.
RE-WATCHED!! 🎉🎉
There are too many redecos to choose from at this juncture. An instance where it's best to wait and watch.
(Toxitron & the upcoming X-Godzilla tribute seem to be the most interesting of the lot.) 😊
I love the design and playability of this guy but I'll wait till the (now confirmed) Scourge repaint of this releases.
But would Scourge stop to pick up liter on the side of the Road? I think not.
5:46 sunstreaker is gonna get pissed after this
I think everyone on the road is going to be pissed by that.
Figure looks great, i gotta get one, oh and i know you were exaggerating when you said you could fully fill a bowl with matrixes but ngl i would like to see someone fill a bowl with all the recent year matrixes just to see how far it'll go💀
I mean It's not much of one. I think it would look respectably full with the number I got. All the MP Optimuses come with big ones, and now like every Chug figure comes with one at this point.
Hi I am very sick and I have been for the last 3 days this video help me feel better thank you hope your day is going better than my 🙂
I'm happy to hear that I was able to help even a little.
The handle on the back of the gun is to plug it into the shoulder ports.
It looks as ridiculous like that, as him holding it like a sword.
Previous comments on this video murdered me with some words with Siri killing me with a machine gun made out of typos😂
I understood it just fine.
"Cap'n Ratchet's Nutritious Matrix Crunch" needs to be a gag product in something now. lol
Was the random thought that came up when you mentioned filling a bowl to the brim with matrices.
I was more just thinking Matrix-Os my self.
@@PerspectiveEnd Rolls off the tongue better, yeah.
Oh no, you’ve just made me want him after I swore I was going to skip💀😭
I'm sorry.
If the leaks are right, I hope to get the RiD Black Convoy/Scourge Walmart repaint instead lol.
