I actually like the Zone OVA. Got this set when it was announced. Got the package, shipped fine, no exterior damage. First time I opened the box, the fucking instant I touched the figure, Dai Atlas' main horn almost completely sheared off as if the plastic was made of sand. The wings literally felt like knock off plastic. Jesus, no wonder Takara stopped making exclusives after this.

Agreed. I have the Overlord figure myself, and the only complaint I had with it was the flimsy stickers(which I may just take off and replace with the Reprolabels set or something). Other than that, I really liked it. After this video, I can safely say that Dai Atlas’s problems are WAY worse than stickers falling off.
Yeah, like the fact that the one guy would be better off with stickers that fall off cause you can put those back on at least, instead he's just permanently missing his shoulder details.
Jesus, when I first saw these figures a few years ago I was like: "Damn, I'm digging how these guys look" but now, dear lord I didn't expect it to be THIS awful. What sucks is that I really like the designs of these guys, so seeing how absolutely dogshit these figures are makes it even more disappointing imo.
I feel the same way. I actually really like the designs (to the point I even have a G1 Roadfire), but I’m only just now realizing just how badly made and quality checked they are. It’s really a shame how some of the ideas and designs these days can be so good, and yet the quality is worse than ever, in my opinion.
For informational sakes, the jet is Sonic Bomber, the tank is Roadfire, and the big guy of course is Dai Atlas. And they combine into a Big Powered stackathon.
Imagine a Transformers collector mentioned to someone that Takara figures are always so much better than the Hasbro version. To test the opinion, person 2 bough the most expensive Takara figure he could find (Dai Atlas).

lolwot? What's wrong with the SS86 Sweeps? They're just SS86 Scourge with a lighter color scheme, reversed hands, and no mold degradation to speak of. And it's a good mold too. If I didn't already own 4 SS86 Scourges I'd have picked up at least one of those. It's a fine alternative to SS86 Scourge for anyone who wasn't able to pick those up the first time around.
This is the perfect TH-cam video. I was already cackling with Falling Thunder (my nickname for the first jet) and the tank that makes weaponizers say “at least I don’t partsform that egregiously”, but when you got to Dai Crapless I was crying out “it’s beautiful” in between tears of joys as it did the ultimate worm. But your absolute distain for the aesthetics as if they are an objective fact is annoying. You don't like it, fine, doesn't mean its the worst thing ever. The things like the drill being too small is accurate to the original toy which is what they are remaking here. if it were a "correct size" I bet you would complain about it being inaccurate to the original. i do want to mention that that I bought this set myself and will admit that i apparently hit the fucking lottery with the looseness of the figures in general and the "string spine" on Dai Atlaa himself is solid as a rock.
It could have transformed without the Partsforming and had them still come off to form the weapon. That's all I'm saying. As for the next bit, I don't dare to claim that my personal taste when it comes to aesthetics is Objectively right, but it would really put a strain on the comedy to stop an interject a disclaimer that I don't think my tastes are factually correct. If it were the correct size I think my complaint would have more been that it's not even approaching the ability to fly anymore. I think actually what happened is I might have got the Cream of the Crap. After I released the video I did some thinking and realized this is likely the copy of the figure that was returned several times over for being too terrible, since it was the last one the BBTS had. So it might not be that other people got lucky with theirs, it might be that I got the foregone conclusion worst possible one.
I bought this set off clearance and the figures also got terrible QC. The Black and White got loose legs just like yours. The blue and red one got the terrible loose titan master/headmaster neck joint. Dai Atlas got somewhat loose waist joint (though it can plug-in). Then, I understood why this set is on clearance.

Looking back on this set, it's actually rather interesting that despite the original set of G1 toys being designed by Takara, as it went on the Japanese side of TF went for alot more detailed and humanoid transformers, while the American side went for alot simpler designs, especially comparing G2 and BW to Car Robots and BW2/Neo (the most notable thing is look how little of the designs from there have Car/Animal parts be the chest of the robot)
Well, with Mogura, it was actually conceived before Mechagodzilla actually existed (back in 1957 when Mysterians released), so TECHNICALLY Mogura wasn’t supposed to be an improvement on Mechagodzilla. It was only in the Heisei era when Mogura came after Mechagodzilla.

Glad I watched this I was a big fan of the triggerhappy, overlord and twin twist moulds and I thought they looked pretty cool in images, I never would’ve got this set because it was hella expensive, but it was on that mental list of Takara figures I’m a little bummed I’ll never be able to get alongside slipstream and ruination but now I have a free conscious and have no regrets about missing this

Fans project has a Dai Z that's a much better alternative to this character. But with all the current molds available Takara could have made this better.
I've been waiting for this. Even though I like the Japanese Transformers most, this set is truly a one piece of garbage. But interestingly enough I struggled to find a bad review of this figures. Thanks for giving this trash the justice it deserves!

Speaking as someone who a month ago purchased one of these boxed and just watched this video... I don't have any of those QC issues... except for maybe the red tank waist connection is slightly loose, and by that, it is not horrible, so long as I don't tilt the figure 75 degrees forward, nor jank the figure the waist remains connected, and when I tilt it back it resettles to the proper position. I also was having issues with the Dai Atlas spine before, but it did lock in. I think yours was just too loose considering how floppy even the jets legs were as well. While I haven't transfored them since I put them in robot mode, I have picked them up a few times, and not counting the one I mentioned, no issues like what you had. Also, I ordered a Z sword for Dai Atlas for the simple reason of being rediculous, and it looks appropriately rediculous... but is actually also being held up by the arm.

As I said, I got them well before I saw your video, and strangely was half surprised by your QC issues, and half yeeeep. twas the way for things back then with remolds... bit of an odd sensation having two counter sensations working almost harmoniously, if you know what I mean. When I got the set, I got it for these purproses. One, standing with god Ginrai, Star Saber and Victory Leo, and finally Star Convoy. Second reason, I feel like of the leader characters mentioned, Dai Atlas is an outlier, in paint scheme and having a visible mouth. Third point, just how rediculous Zone was, I am even tempted to get a rainbow backdrop just for him. Fourth point, a decent recreation of the original as a playset, where instead of Micromasters, you have the Titan Masters.
I hate this character because in the Zone OVA, he ended up killing three of my favorite Transformers (Trypticon, Bruticus and Devastator), so i am kinda happy his figure is the equivalent of plastic The Last Knight

Come on he was build in to be deception leader but only equipment he has a scope gun ,nazi helmet, one time maze , starscream target master alt mode) but doesn't like deathsaurus( good alt mode , powerful emperor design, loads of weapons which is frequently used, size , has a personal planet destroyer cannon and also he has a wife) overlord (powerful assault machine design , good alt modes , good characterization ( idw maniac, masterforce a proud warrior)
It’s been over a year from my original comment and until now I have realized why I want, no, NEED DAI ATLAS… To have his destroyed self as a 200 display for my TR Trypticon, it is expensive and ridiculous but my baby deserves it :D
I mean his is probably not as bad as mine, I have a theory that mine is uniquely bad, because probably what happened is when people were returning figures to the BBTS they weren't getting thrown away, just resold, so this being the last one was probably bought and returned several times for being so awful. But I don't think it would be worth the money either way.
I personally like the concept behind these figures, but Jesus Christ… That QC is inexcusable. I have no fricking clue how anyone haughty this was acceptable
You deserved so much better. I never wanted the Overload mold, but now I don't want it even more. Were still waiting on a What's the Best about every figure you hate. If you do, i'd bet this will be dead last
I've had at least two people comment so far that the Overlord is much better made than this. And man I didn't think about not giving away who is worse when I finally did that video. Oops.
Damn, based on the experiences people are putting into the comment section about this set, I must have been blessed by some devine deity because my version of this set dosent have any of the issues here to this extreme. The plastic feels as thick as any other Titans return figure and the joints are decently tight. The cockpit on the black one (Sonicaomaer/ Sonic Bomber) dosent lock into place and just hangs limply. The headmaster on my red one (Roadfire) is loose but still functions. Most importantly the string joint on my blue one (Dia Atlas) actually works as intended, but due to how the joint was designed he has a shakey torso. It stays attached but wobbles when you move it. If I may give some advice on the string joint, you need to make sure it is completely straight as casually move it into his body. Then when can't move it any further, sqweez the top and bottom half of the figure together, until you hear a click. If that dosent lock the figure in place, then quality control has truly forsaken your figure. I am sorry you and others spent so much on a set only to be burdened with issues. I hope your next expensive purchase is free of all the problems you experienced with this one.
I mean that still makes it sound like you have the issues to some degree. Yeah that does sound better but still problematic. Here's the funny thing about that, I try doing that it doesn't work, I put tons of force into it it doesn't work, the one time it did work it wasn't even hard. I think there's just something in the way I have to luck my way past. And hey it's cool. I'd say the experience of this was worth the money, and it made a video that so many of you enjoyed. So yeah, Werf.
The sad thing is that many of them like me are buying it because it's so expensive, to see what makes it a 200 dollar set, because if they charge that much it has to be good right?

So long story short the transformers franchise started to take a dip in the early 90s is Japan, they started on another robot series called brave (one of the 2 exceptions to dril tanks) well after zone arrival they continued the story through magazines at the time witch was zone and the return of convoy, what they called Optimus in Japan. Now I don't really know how to look for the story on what happened. But to get a better explanation on this look up the basics on Japanese transformers

We at least have Super Minipla Brave series and GaoGaiGar still gets enough love to get new figures and I believe Moderoid still makes the occasional Brave series figure but with Takara nowadays things seemed to have taken a bit of a dip though only on the transformers side, Shinkalion seems like it’s fairly popular overseas and merch as far as I can tell is good so who knows, maybe Hasbro is the real weak link here, doesn’t help that they stifle the creative possibilities of the franchise

@@basedpota Japanese TF is weird but I can dig it. About the only series I truly, (near) completely *DESPISE* is Super God Masterforce for going all Power Rangers. Don't get me wrong, I love tokusatsu, but, that's not what Transformers is supposed to be. Very different creature entirely. That said, I did enjoy the show's rendition of the Pretenders & Seacons, even if I still prefer their western depictions.

I was a pretty big fan of the japanese sequel shows to g1 and their take on the headmasters. I prefered it to the American take and I was familiar with this character since he literally killed all the combiners and fricking trypticon in a straight to dvd finale of the japanese g1 anime shows. So it's cool that this guy even got a toy since he's a one and done type of character, even if the toy is a disaster. Almost fitting if you've watched any of the goofy anime disasters.

I noticed that the gamer edition review you made a few months back is titled: 'dai atlas sequel'. While they may not be great, they are no where near as bad as this thing in my opinion, and at least you don't need to remorgage to get them. Good job bro
They should make a new Dai Atlas for the west, possibly making the character really cool. I loved Transformers Zone, theme goes hard and the climax was awesome

I think I literally died on the inside watching this, because I was really in love with the set once they revealed it back in the day. Wasn't gonna buy it anyways, I can't afford to spend more than 50 bucks per figure for my own sake, but still....wow....this QC somehow is worse than Hasbro QC, and theirs was pretty pestilent back when this set was released.

Agreed. I have the Overlord figure myself, and the only complaint I had with it was the flimsy stickers(which I may just take off and replace with the Reprolabels set or something). Other than that, I really liked it.
After this video, I can safely say that Dai Atlas’s problems are WAY worse than stickers falling off.

What sucks is that I really like the designs of these guys, so seeing how absolutely dogshit these figures are makes it even more disappointing imo.

I feel the same way. I actually really like the designs (to the point I even have a G1 Roadfire), but I’m only just now realizing just how badly made and quality checked they are. It’s really a shame how some of the ideas and designs these days can be so good, and yet the quality is worse than ever, in my opinion.

This is the perfect TH-cam video. I was already cackling with Falling Thunder (my nickname for the first jet) and the tank that makes weaponizers say “at least I don’t partsform that egregiously”, but when you got to Dai Crapless I was crying out “it’s beautiful” in between tears of joys as it did the ultimate worm. Thank you Perspective End, my life has significantly improved since understanding that this exists.

The things like the drill being too small is accurate to the original toy which is what they are remaking here. if it were a "correct size" I bet you would complain about it being inaccurate to the original.
i do want to mention that that I bought this set myself and will admit that i apparently hit the fucking lottery with the looseness of the figures in general and the "string spine" on Dai Atlaa himself is solid as a rock.
It could have transformed without the Partsforming and had them still come off to form the weapon. That's all I'm saying.
As for the next bit, I don't dare to claim that my personal taste when it comes to aesthetics is Objectively right, but it would really put a strain on the comedy to stop an interject a disclaimer that I don't think my tastes are factually correct. If it were the correct size I think my complaint would have more been that it's not even approaching the ability to fly anymore.
I think actually what happened is I might have got the Cream of the Crap. After I released the video I did some thinking and realized this is likely the copy of the figure that was returned several times over for being too terrible, since it was the last one the BBTS had.
So it might not be that other people got lucky with theirs, it might be that I got the foregone conclusion worst possible one.
I bought this set off clearance and the figures also got terrible QC.
The Black and White got loose legs just like yours.
The blue and red one got the terrible loose titan master/headmaster neck joint.
Dai Atlas got somewhat loose waist joint (though it can plug-in).
Then, I understood why this set is on clearance.
I heard QC on these guys wasn't good, but I could never dream it's this bad.

Looking back on this set, it's actually rather interesting that despite the original set of G1 toys being designed by Takara, as it went on the Japanese side of TF went for alot more detailed and humanoid transformers, while the American side went for alot simpler designs, especially comparing G2 and BW to Car Robots and BW2/Neo (the most notable thing is look how little of the designs from there have Car/Animal parts be the chest of the robot)
I think it's just cause Japan has such a Storied history with Mecha, Name one other American serries that's really about robots or Mecha.

Glad I watched this I was a big fan of the triggerhappy, overlord and twin twist moulds and I thought they looked pretty cool in images, I never would’ve got this set because it was hella expensive, but it was on that mental list of Takara figures I’m a little bummed I’ll never be able to get alongside slipstream and ruination but now I have a free conscious and have no regrets about missing this

Fans project has a Dai Z that's a much better alternative to this character. But with all the current molds available Takara could have made this better.

Speaking as someone who a month ago purchased one of these boxed and just watched this video... I don't have any of those QC issues... except for maybe the red tank waist connection is slightly loose, and by that, it is not horrible, so long as I don't tilt the figure 75 degrees forward, nor jank the figure the waist remains connected, and when I tilt it back it resettles to the proper position. I also was having issues with the Dai Atlas spine before, but it did lock in. I think yours was just too loose considering how floppy even the jets legs were as well. While I haven't transfored them since I put them in robot mode, I have picked them up a few times, and not counting the one I mentioned, no issues like what you had.
Also, I ordered a Z sword for Dai Atlas for the simple reason of being rediculous, and it looks appropriately rediculous... but is actually also being held up by the arm.

As I said, I got them well before I saw your video, and strangely was half surprised by your QC issues, and half yeeeep. twas the way for things back then with remolds... bit of an odd sensation having two counter sensations working almost harmoniously, if you know what I mean.
When I got the set, I got it for these purproses. One, standing with god Ginrai, Star Saber and Victory Leo, and finally Star Convoy. Second reason, I feel like of the leader characters mentioned, Dai Atlas is an outlier, in paint scheme and having a visible mouth. Third point, just how rediculous Zone was, I am even tempted to get a rainbow backdrop just for him. Fourth point, a decent recreation of the original as a playset, where instead of Micromasters, you have the Titan Masters.
I hate this character because in the Zone OVA, he ended up killing three of my favorite Transformers (Trypticon, Bruticus and Devastator), so i am kinda happy his figure is the equivalent of plastic The Last Knight

I mean his is probably not as bad as mine, I have a theory that mine is uniquely bad, because probably what happened is when people were returning figures to the BBTS they weren't getting thrown away, just resold, so this being the last one was probably bought and returned several times for being so awful.
But I don't think it would be worth the money either way.

Damn, based on the experiences people are putting into the comment section about this set, I must have been blessed by some devine deity because my version of this set dosent have any of the issues here to this extreme.
The plastic feels as thick as any other Titans return figure and the joints are decently tight. The cockpit on the black one (Sonicaomaer/ Sonic Bomber) dosent lock into place and just hangs limply. The headmaster on my red one (Roadfire) is loose but still functions. Most importantly the string joint on my blue one (Dia Atlas) actually works as intended, but due to how the joint was designed he has a shakey torso. It stays attached but wobbles when you move it.
If I may give some advice on the string joint, you need to make sure it is completely straight as casually move it into his body. Then when can't move it any further, sqweez the top and bottom half of the figure together, until you hear a click. If that dosent lock the figure in place, then quality control has truly forsaken your figure.
I am sorry you and others spent so much on a set only to be burdened with issues. I hope your next expensive purchase is free of all the problems you experienced with this one.

Here's the funny thing about that, I try doing that it doesn't work, I put tons of force into it it doesn't work, the one time it did work it wasn't even hard. I think there's just something in the way I have to luck my way past.

So long story short the transformers franchise started to take a dip in the early 90s is Japan, they started on another robot series called brave (one of the 2 exceptions to dril tanks) well after zone arrival they continued the story through magazines at the time witch was zone and the return of convoy, what they called Optimus in Japan. Now I don't really know how to look for the story on what happened. But to get a better explanation on this look up the basics on Japanese transformers

Oh how this modern updates soils the Japanese Transformers legacy and the Brave series mecha directly modelled after them.
The Japanese Transformers legacy is a soil upon it self, look what they did to Beast Wars.
We at least have Super Minipla Brave series and GaoGaiGar still gets enough love to get new figures and I believe Moderoid still makes the occasional Brave series figure but with Takara nowadays things seemed to have taken a bit of a dip though only on the transformers side, Shinkalion seems like it’s fairly popular overseas and merch as far as I can tell is good so who knows, maybe Hasbro is the real weak link here, doesn’t help that they stifle the creative possibilities of the franchise
As much as these may stink, I really want these since it’s very unlikely we get a new version of Dai Atlas

@@basedpota Japanese TF is weird but I can dig it. About the only series I truly, (near) completely *DESPISE* is Super God Masterforce for going all Power Rangers. Don't get me wrong, I love tokusatsu, but, that's not what Transformers is supposed to be. Very different creature entirely. That said, I did enjoy the show's rendition of the Pretenders & Seacons, even if I still prefer their western depictions.

I was a pretty big fan of the japanese sequel shows to g1 and their take on the headmasters. I prefered it to the American take and I was familiar with this character since he literally killed all the combiners and fricking trypticon in a straight to dvd finale of the japanese g1 anime shows. So it's cool that this guy even got a toy since he's a one and done type of character, even if the toy is a disaster. Almost fitting if you've watched any of the goofy anime disasters.
That's what I hate about the Japanese stuff. It's always trying to flex on the actual normal Transformers media.

Transformers Zone is actually very loved; it has a good plot, characters, animation, and although it was just one episode, it was a very good episode.
The Headmasters has for ever ruined Japanese Transformers for me.

I noticed that the gamer edition review you made a few months back is titled: 'dai atlas sequel'. While they may not be great, they are no where near as bad as this thing in my opinion, and at least you don't need to remorgage to get them.

I think I literally died on the inside watching this, because I was really in love with the set once they revealed it back in the day. Wasn't gonna buy it anyways, I can't afford to spend more than 50 bucks per figure for my own sake, but still....wow....this QC somehow is worse than Hasbro QC, and theirs was pretty pestilent back when this set was released.
