I think this Bulkhead should have been promoted as its own version, as barricade was in Siege or Earthrise, personally it does not have much relationship with previous Bulkheads but it is a good reinterpretation of the character
I think the reason the show was called Animated was because of the super cartoony look of the characters. That's just my guess. Really love this figure. It almost seems like Hasbro was trying to make him looks bad in the promo pics. They did not do him justice.
That's pretty much why it's called "Transformers Animated", not just for the art style but also because of how the characters move and the gimmick of the toy line was things like Voyager class Optimus' automorph with the spinning waist and all the leader class toys having a feature where by pressing a button on the chest it causes the figure's mouth to open and close whilst also playing a voice clip, this was the version where the everything was more, well, animated. Also, the anime aspects was just the big thing about Wyatt's particular style, it combines traits from both anime and western cartoons.

I wasn't quite going for that. Like I didn't think he just became some Cryptid of war. I just was saying that he was going to finish the mission he got sent on no matter what by him self and avenge his squadmates.

Its crazy how when this mold is used for bulkhead, he looks jacked but when its used on breakdown, he looks like he gained weight after knockout left him
Figure looks great. I thought the rumour wasn't that this was an ER optimus retool, but rather a pre-tool of an upcoming, unannounced optimus figure. Maybe I just misunderstood, leaks seem to be more prevelant than ever.
My biggest concern with this figure is how he’d fit into a Prime collection. Bulkhead is the only character I’m missing from the full lineup, and I’m hesitant to spend big dollars on either of the original voyagers. I like the Legacy one’s aesthetic, I’d just like to know if it fits alongside the original Prime figures.
It's really not meant for a Prime collection. it's meant for a G1 collection. This is, for intents and purposes, G1 Bulkhead. That's why the Prime fans had a big tizzy over this figure and G1 Prime Arcee. To me, they're fine. perfectly acceptable. just not for me, and that's no blight on the quality of the toy.
I think the problem here is that this is meant to fit the Chug lines from the last 4 years. This is supposed to look good next to ER, Siege, Kingdom, and the rest of Legacy. If you want a Prime Bulkhead this one won't fit that. If you want a Bulkhead for the WFC then it will.

I'd note that minicon ports in the UT often didn't actually connect to a feature, instead just being a way to stick them to the bot, which was cool for the few minicons that turned into weapons (like the fire truck that could fold into a missle artillery battery thing)
This is what I'm loving most about Legacy. Hype for the line was very, very low when it was announced, and a lot of people were second guessing the line and reconsidering what they want. But, the moment they got the figures in hand, they fell in love!! I recently picked up my first Legacy figure, Skids (just last night, in fact,). I was not hyped for him. I thought he looked hollow and kinda cheap. But getting him in hand, oh man he's great!!
I think the fist-mace is supposed to act more like a boxing glove. Less for hurting the other guy, and more for protecting the hand, specifically the joints. Also historically flails/balls on chains (or any weapon on a chain) is just generally not a good weapon due to the ability for them to just bounce back once they hit their intended target(if they do) and hit the weilder (something that happened to animated Bulkhead fairly frequently if I recall correctly).
But does the hand need the protection. Also Sure the flail is hard to use, but it can be effective, and the rope his wat attached to was like hundreds of feet long, so it gave him tons of Range on his melee.
Great review PE! I’ve really loved this figure a ton since I got it. I didn’t think to use some of the accessories the way you did so thanks for the inspiration. Since Animated is technically the show I grew up with, at least a little bit, I’m also glad it looks kinda like it too, you kinda get the best of both worlds
I somehow managed to find this guy for the normal price on eBay (which was amazing considering everything else was overpriced or not available yet here in the UK) and I love him

To anyone that reads this, I found one in stores and it’s great. Don’t think of it as Prime Bulkhead, think of it as G1 bulkhead this figure looks way better in person, good accessories, great accessory storage for alt mode, shield is great as a shield, transformation is complex without being a pain posability is average or even slightly above. Alt mode also looks amazing. I’d give it a 9/10
A lot of people do think of it as G1 Bulkhead and they are offended by that. People are growing exhausted by the endless parade of G1 when serries that got them into the Transformers go ignored.
The tangent about Transformers: Animated's name really made me wonder why Hasbro keeps reusing names with no changes. It's Robots in Disguise again! But worse It's War for Cybertron again! But worse (I still love Transformers: Animated tho, it's my favorite tf show)

So 2 stories about my legacy Bulkhead : I bought it at a target outside my town and whenever I unboxed it in my car, one of the wheels fell off and it was lost in the seats for over a week. Eventually the wheel was found and bulkhead was whole again. So those who want to buy this id be aware of the wheels popping off. I was going for a bike ride to a friends house and bulkhead was in my hoodie pocket. Whenever I was going down my driveway at max speed, bulkhead flew out my pocket and tumbling on the road. The shield came off and he un transformed. To my surprise bulkhead had, I kid you not, ZERO scratches on ANYTHING. The shield is perfectly fine and nothing broke off, not even a wheel.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the Sunbow version of Bulkhead (who yes, I know doesn't exist but let me have my headcanons okay), a clumsy but well-intentioned demolitions expert and space bridge engineer trained by Grapple and Hoist. Just picture Animated Bulkhead, but with some added elements to tie him back into that universe. Also, theory time: this was GOING to be a Legacy version of Animated Bulkhead, but someone on the design team feared they'd upset the Animated fans by deviating from that show's aesthetic (which IMO, not a problem; remember RTS Lugnut and how good he was despite not looking like his Animated version?), so they tried to turn it into a "Prime" Bulkhead with mixed results. Definitely picking this big lug up. Now if only Hasbro could do a Lugnut in this style sometime in the future...
Agreed. Honestly I don't think nearly as many people would be upset about Animated Bulkie being G1 since Animated was already had a ton of G1 references and inspiration Plus, it's Animated, I know I'd be jumping with joy if he had his classic jaw and wings for seats lol
I really love the bulkhead figure, it is such a fun figure to have. Also when fiddling around with it, I got my Kup figure out and reenacted the do mayonnaise count as instruments from that marching band episode from Spongebob!!!

It looks great, and one of the most creative things Hasbro has done with Transformers in a long time. Although it definitely isn’t the TFP version (Thank God!), I can definitely tell it’s the Animated version (Military alt-mode, slumped shoulders, torso is the front of the car, similar feet design).
As someone who love Transformers Prime (+ Animated) show and Bulkhead, this truly looks better in my opinion, together with Arcee who also looks good as well.
The hole on his back where you can plug the mingun is much stronger on the right side. To fix the left side, I put some super glue and now it perfectly works. A really cool advice: if you turn his hands inside the cab in vehicle mode, they look like seats. I always do it. Btw I don't agree with the fact that you have to partsform the shield to make transformation easier. Yeah it's still there but it's not that terrible. I've never had issues. Imo, this figure is a solid 9/10. I still play with it after weeks. I love it.
How much superglue did you apply? Any specific method? Mine pegs in fine on the right but I hate how he has to peek under his minigun if I put him in a shield-centric pose.
This would be my favorite figure I own, if not for the QC. Out if the box, it was missing a metal pin in its foot, so if i ever move the foot too much it falls off.
I can see that tarp being retooled into a tapered canopy to give it a fast back hum-v look... And there's enough room in that chest to give it a hood instead of being a flat nose... I think you've got something here
Y’know, I had that exact same problem with the minigun. It holds terribly on the right side, but for some reason has better grip on the left side. It’s quite strange
I really like this figure honestly! Now I actually have found Legacy in stores, three of the deluxes and Bulkhead. Of course the two missing are the two I really want, Dragstrip and Blaster. BUT THEY DID HAVE 14 EFFING CORONATION STAR SCREAMS AFTER NOT HAVING LEADER FIGURES AT ALL SINCE 2017!
A new toyline usually means my stores are stocked, something that can't be said for the other waves. It really feels like with each successive wave the figures take longer and have a higher chance of just not showing up at all. He was easily the best of the first 3 I got (him, Arcee, and Skids) and is toe to toe with Dragstrip. Kickback is okay, but, well I'm sure you'll get to him. So, yeah, Bulkhead is really, really good.
One thing to mention with the minicon port bit of the video, most minicon ports on figures (especially unicron and mega/galvatron, who had the most) did nothing, just allowed minicons to be attached. The ports on Bulkhead are just straight up minicon ports to hold them... weird to give that to Bulkhead and not any of the armada figures that came later on though
Yeah the strangest thing about this whole figure is just that there on him at all. So few characters actually got them, so why did they end up on bulkhead?
I remember hearing the rumors that we'd get an Animated Bulkhead and got excited, while I have the figure I was excited to see him on shelves again (heck I might've bough one to show support) . When I saw that it was "G1 ified" I got upset but after a few reviews I started to see that he was pretty cool and might look great next to a hound I have of a similar color, and besides the head he could nicely hide with other G1 figures which is kinda cool. It kinda makes me hope they do something like bringing us characters that were never made for a certain series (as toys or show characters) into toys. Like how we never got an Animated Kup or another non G1 character made into the G1 asthetic.
I wasn't going to get this figure as it is the only Legacy figure besides Kingdom Blaster that I've seen in stores, that and I was looking for Neca Gargoyles Bronx. I couldn't find Bronx and this guy was just shelf warming so I grabbed him and was thoroughly impressed. So glad they are starting the Legacy wave with such a strong figure just like Kingdom Cyclonus. I did do some customizing to mine as for me there was not enough paint. I painted his wheels, gas tanks, and the wires/hook in the winch on his bumper a Flat Steel and it makes him look that much better. Great review, keep up the amazing work.
Got this guy in yesterday. Perspective you are right on the money with this guy. A super fun figure with a alt mode that we never get to see. I am a WWII buff and even have my minor in History with focus on WWII. I have never owned a Duec n' ahalf before and though this may be a 5tonner it still fits the basic premis of that old logistics vehicle. We never get logistics vehicles they are always tanks and jeeps and big barreles that go boom. This guy is cool as hell and I really love that in his alternate mode you can use his truck bed as storage. Also, the leg panels can store stuff while in vehicle mode. My favorite part of this vehicle mode is that the tailgate swings down and becomes a ramp. Man they thought about everything with this guy. He now sits with Blaster and Cyclonis and Rodimus as one of my favorite Transformers I own. Keep an ear to the ground for the video I make on this guy. Maybe next week depending on if I can finish up Brunt pretty quickly. be well mate and I always enjoy your videos! :)

The second you mentioned Bulkhead in Animated, I instantly thought of the new Wreckers set that was listed on Amazon, and now I’m pretty sure what that set’s Bulkhead is gonna be. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be this repainted into Animated colors(darker green, green jaw, new tampos, etc.). I don’t know for sure, but it’s my best guess since it’s the only other alternative Bulkhead design. We know Topspin and Twin Twist are using the Diaclone colors(and probably Springer if he had a Diaclone toy, I can’t remember), we saw Leadfoot in the Wreckers comic, and I don’t know what the Impactor is gonna be(hopefully a single packed version of the Battle Pack one), but Animated was really the only other version of Bulkhead that really existed. Unless they go with the Beast Hunters one, which would be an odd choice if I do say so myself, I don’t really see them doing anything else. But that’s just my hypothesis. It could end up completely different.

Unrelated, but I picked up Titans Return Kup (Takara version) off your recommendation because I didn't have a Kup in my collection, and oof, that transformation is a true banger. Plus an ab crunch. Mighty fine
Agreed with like all of the video. If you turn the fists a little, the back of the hands look like headrests in vehicle mode. The ports on the traps work great to turn it into some sort of Green Goblin Glider. This is like my 3 year olds favorite of my figures (second is Seige Hound with all the weapon ports). I kind of wish the head was a little bigger but I really love this toy.
Note: Most Minicon ports normally are just there for the slap on gimmick. Universe-wise they'd power up the bot or con, but toy wise they're just there for the gimmick. Just look at Cybertron Metroplex. A whopping total of over 10 pegs, 4 of which are on the chest, but they're all just there cause he had the minicon. Also, we are rumored to get an Armada Starscream which hopefully will come with his Minicon of Swindle but we'll see
Apparently according to people in the comments old minicon figures don't fit these ports though. And why would Bulkhead be the only character in the line to get the ports?

Well from what I’ve seen, Legacy hasn’t even fully released yet. Every place I’ve checked says that all Legacy stuff is still on pre-order. Based on the dates the pre-orders have for each place I’ve looked at, I’m expecting Legacy to be in stores sometime in June or July.

Yes. Yes I think they are worth that. If you got those all new that's like 250 worth of toys. Just the PotP Rodimus is 50 if you can even find it for that price any more.
I like this design except for one little thing, the head, its way to round and clashes with the rest of it, maybe they were scared people wouldn't reconize its blulked, but maybe they could add some more rounded parts or make the head more square, other than that its pretty good, overall 6 or 7 out of ten
The reason why animated got the title it got in my opinion based on something linger in my head, casual audiences or corporate people's spite/perspective towards animation. When the 07 movie released, the casual's perspective towards it it's like this is the first time they heard the Transformers name or for them it feels like the Transformers brand has better recognition because there's now a "REAL" version of it. Which lead to the Animated show got it's name because it probably got the attention of the kids at the time who barely or never heard of the Transformers name before the "REAL" movie released. Just a thought.
It’s good to find a TH-cam channel that likes the legacy bullhead like I do. When the design dropped everyone despised it. But I was all like that actually looks kinda cool.

4:49 I think the reason why is because he would hurt his hand if he bare-knuckle punched someone, there's still joints and servos that can be stressed or broken if he punched hard enough. The mace acts like a knuckle duster, protecting the fingers while enhancing the damage done by punches.
imo the mace thingy is just a stronger petak that can't be worked as easily into fingers/are stronger as big pieces. kinda like how a hollow sphere is stronger to getting pulled apart than a full one (or soemthing like that, idk, all I remember was a pretty funny illustration that I saw in a science book when I was a kid)
I bought this figure months ago at a convention, and I cant stop fidgeting with it. It also feels like a good companion piece to Hound. Probably because of Movie Hound. I can see this Bulkhead being a mix of Animated Bulk and Movie Hound
By far the best review I've seen of this figure. I knew there was a way to give this guy an ab crunch, it's so good to see a reviewer actually experimenting with the joints on his toys! I too am all for misusing transformation joints if it means giving some extra articulation to your figures. Also, really liked the idea of turning Bulkead into a matador or turning his wrecking ball into a sort of Cybertronian Chromatic Orb spell, I'll definiteyl give those a try once my copy arrives. Personally I'm also glad this new Bulky has some more substancial legs. Him having suc diminutive drumsticks worked well with TFA's more cartoony aesthetics, but the more realistic textures of Prime made had turned them into awkward, cumbersome dwellers of the Uncanny Valley. Speaking of TFA, I was always pretty puzzled by the show's name. Maybe they really wanted to stress the show being mostly hand drawn as opposed to the CG bots of Energon and Cybertron, but there had to be a better phrase to convey that idea. That being said, it's still a better title than friggin' Earthspark. I can't stand that ugly clutter of consonants right in the middle of it, and I'm convinced the person that had come up with it only ever typed it down and never bothered to check how it sounds spoken out loud. Maybe it's just a me problem, but personally I can't for the life of me pronounce "earthspark" without sounding like I'm doing a bad impression of TFA Prowl faking static.

I know Warforged is right there, and the boost to AC is thematic for him, but the flavor of half-orc or tortle really seems to fit the bill in my opinion. What do you think?
@@alexanderlowery470 I'm not super familiar with DnD post 3e, but having looked up a few pics of tortles I'd say an orc-tortle hybrid really does seem to be on-point for a Bulkheadesque character. Hope the penalties on intelligence and charisma from the orcish side don't mess the character's magical aspirations up too much.
@@RosencrantzxGuildenstern Oh! 5e recently (relatively speaking) took away negative ability scores. First with the 5e version of Eberron (best setting ever), then with the critical role setting. Then in 2020, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything introduced new rules where you can just assign your racial stat boosts to whatever stats you want. So a +2 CON/+1 CHA sorcerer would be a pretty solid build without any huge tradeoffs! You could do the other way around but c'mon, CON is definitely Bullkhead's highest stat haha!
As someone who by some miracle found both bulkhead and laser prime in my local store, I can say that they really are awesome, oh yeah, I found that the minigun pegs on the opposite side better than the one shown in pictures As for the "minicon port" the idea is probably that hasbro was gonna release minicons as part of other large figures (cybertron metroplex was gonna have his but they ran out of budget) so it may have been similar to how doubledealer has the power masters, but in reference only. Tldr: bulk good, minicons are on the table
That's weird. They should be the same sized holes. According to another of my subscribers, old minicons don't fit those ports. And it wouldn't make sense. Why would Bulkhead be the only one to get ports like that?
I got my copy on Monday, it's ironic how small his gun is considering his function is "heavy munitions" and the right gas tank for the alt mode is missing right out of the box.
Epic review PerspectiveEnd!! I was going to pass on Bulkhead at first, but now that I have him, I do not regret adding him to my collection. :D I think this figure was intended to be Generation 1 Bulkhead, which I know technically does not exist, rather then being Prime Bulkhead. This is at least what I think the designers were thinking when creating this latest figure of the green Autobot Wrecker. Keep on being amazing.
I think more it's Animated Bulkhead, run through a Chug Filter. They wanted it to match with the last several years of the Generations line, so they didn't let this stick out too far from the WFC.
I think the idea with the metal ball is that it's larger and heavier than a fist, so it's like the difference between being hit by a rock and being hit by a boulder or hitting someone with a piece of rebar vs whacking someone with a sledgehammer.
I find if you transform the entire lower leg section first then put the spare tires up while folding the shield down it’s manageable to do without partsforming
Go to your local Targets and ask which day a certain figure restocks and go there on that day as early as possible. I got my G2 laser prime by doing that. It was the last one on the shelf, too
I don't have the time to show up like that. Making this show takes so much time I got very little in the way of a free moment, and those tend to be not when I want them.
@@PerspectiveEnd You could maybe give them a call, and ask if an employee would hold it for you. My Target doesn't do that, but others do. Target just dumped the whole wave 1 of legacy 3 months ahead and are restocking them. Probably a presale deal they had.
I can't outbuy the leg kibble on that Arcee... Backpack management is fine with me but They have really got to figure out a way to get those half wheels off the outside of her calves... I'd rather fully parts form that damn wheel off like WrekGar

I think the reason people are upset with this is the same criticism you gave to toy world bone crusher Prime Bulkhead may have a goofy design but it is his goofy design so changing it makes him feel less like bulkhead and a lot more generic to some
What criticism did I give toyworld Bonecrusher? And Prime Bulkhead doesn't own the Name. There was a Bulkhead before him with a different design than the SUV boy. And he had some stuff in common with this guy.

I found this figure along with most of the first wave of legacy and picked them up a few weeks ago, I loved the bulk head despite its downright awful back (if not parts formed). The initial outrage was never really there for me and I was just looking forward to the new release given I loved both versions of the character prior but was to young at the time to care for collecting let alone actually finding one of the prior toys of the character. Your video is great as always.
Thanks for the review. One thing I wanted to know was how do you feel about the hollowness of the chest? I love this reinterpretation of bulkhead, but every time I see his chest I’m left thinking he’s wearing a square balloon because you can see right through it. I think choosing to use clear plastic for that piece was a bad decision; the clear windows ruin the illusion of bulk. I also don’t like the fact that you can see all the way into his chest from below… but at least deluxes can shelter under him for shade… or wear him as a hooded cloak! But maybe that’s just me. The fortified gun emplacement was amazing.
The hollowness isn't bad. You really only notice it with high downwards or low upwards angles. If it bothers you, you could paint the windows but I don't think it's necessary. Thank you. It is a fun little combo you can make.
While I like my bulkheads extra thicc, I don’t have the energy or brain cells to hate the Legacy Bulky. I got bigger fish to fry IRL than hating a toy, also got FE bulkhead in January so I’m good when it comes to bulkhead.

Didn't you say the other day you JUST got that Animated Bulkhead? And I wouldn't call this a Cyclonus competitor. The Cyclonus had a much more enjoyable transformation, and his modes were incredibly on point. I like what this guy is bringing to the table a lot, but it's not quite hitting the same.
I personally love this figure and it has the most bang for your Buck. Sure the chest is a bit hollow in robot mode but that’s just because you have to hide the arms for the alt mode and for 22 dollars which is the same price as the skids and Acree this is the better option than both of them.
The concept of a blunt weapon in a world of metal beings is kinda silly but is actually a very destructive tool if you look back in medieval times. The best weapon agaisnt a knight is a blunt weapon cuz it sends shockwaves and concussive energy across a wider area, especially when aiming for the head and other weak points. so imagine the heavy Goliath that bulkhead is swinging a mace with his full weight behind it straight onto an enemy, such a thing will not only smash the metal flesh in on itself but can generate enough energy to cripple whatever technical organs are inside it, like a full body concussion. On top of that bulkhead’s mace has stumps and dull spikes to allow a guaranteed break in armor with his full force right behind it to further push into that crack.
Oh believe me I have no problem with a Blunt weapon being used. That part makes tons of sense. It's just that it's made out of his hand which is just his hand. It should work about the same.

I’ve never heard of the rumor of Bulkhead being a Optimus retool. The closest I’ve heard of that is some fans speculating that Bulkhead could get retooled into other characters around his size class.
Or more likely because of the honeymoon phase in the process of getting these: Announcements come, people were excited, then pictures came up, and those sparked the controversies, most likely due to the fact that people wanted the perfect representations of those Prime Universe counterparts, even Kingdom strengthened those ties BECAUSE the beasts were extremely accurate to the source material. Anyways, pictures are there, people dunking on/hating the figures, and what happened after that? EVERYONE BOUGHT THEM ANYWAY.
As a G1 Bulkhead, it's not bad. BUT, as a Prime Universe Bulkhead, in which this Voyager class figure is SUPOSSED to represent, it's failing spectacularly.

This is really doing it for me I wasn't super on board at first, almost nobody was But Bulkhead fits in so nicely that I just kinda have to go for him now, but so far he's the only Prime character from Legacy I'm interested in Arcee and Knockout just really aren't doing anything for me, tbh
The rest of them probably died because the charged an entrenched position with melee weapons, screaming Wreck and Rule at the top of their lungs so the didn't even get the element of surprise.
The figure definitely seems better in hand than when it was first announced. The mini gun is cool but kinda seems small for bulkhead if he’s holding it. Like maybe if was meant to be underslung and the barrels could fit blast effects but the rest of him is solid
I would name transformers animated, transformers reborn (I'm 95% sure that name is taken but it fits) its set in a post war eviroment, and a lot of the classic characters got cool new takes, and at least 3 characters kinda came back from the dead
No no no, the rumor wasn’t that he’s a retool of ER Optimus, it’s that he’s a pretool of a Prime Universe Beast Hunter Optimus. Given the shape of bulkhead’s proportions, the fact he comes with a machine gun, and you can replace the tarp shield with a foldable jetpack, and it looks like that might be true. Also, do you know how many figures have minicon ports but no minicon gimmicks? A handful of Cybertron toys, Generations Armada Starscream, Combiner Wars Megatron. Those are minicon ports, minicons fit on them.

Bulkhead was honestly one of the best first impressions I’ve had of any line, and he’s quickly become one of my favorite voyagers in recent years

I think the reason the show was called Animated was because of the super cartoony look of the characters. That's just my guess. Really love this figure. It almost seems like Hasbro was trying to make him looks bad in the promo pics. They did not do him justice.

That's pretty much why it's called "Transformers Animated", not just for the art style but also because of how the characters move and the gimmick of the toy line was things like Voyager class Optimus' automorph with the spinning waist and all the leader class toys having a feature where by pressing a button on the chest it causes the figure's mouth to open and close whilst also playing a voice clip, this was the version where the everything was more, well, animated.
Also, the anime aspects was just the big thing about Wyatt's particular style, it combines traits from both anime and western cartoons.

I wasn't quite going for that. Like I didn't think he just became some Cryptid of war. I just was saying that he was going to finish the mission he got sent on no matter what by him self and avenge his squadmates.

My biggest concern with this figure is how he’d fit into a Prime collection. Bulkhead is the only character I’m missing from the full lineup, and I’m hesitant to spend big dollars on either of the original voyagers. I like the Legacy one’s aesthetic, I’d just like to know if it fits alongside the original Prime figures.
It's really not meant for a Prime collection. it's meant for a G1 collection. This is, for intents and purposes, G1 Bulkhead. That's why the Prime fans had a big tizzy over this figure and G1 Prime Arcee. To me, they're fine. perfectly acceptable. just not for me, and that's no blight on the quality of the toy.
I think the problem here is that this is meant to fit the Chug lines from the last 4 years. This is supposed to look good next to ER, Siege, Kingdom, and the rest of Legacy.
If you want a Prime Bulkhead this one won't fit that. If you want a Bulkhead for the WFC then it will.

I'd note that minicon ports in the UT often didn't actually connect to a feature, instead just being a way to stick them to the bot, which was cool for the few minicons that turned into weapons (like the fire truck that could fold into a missle artillery battery thing)

This is what I'm loving most about Legacy. Hype for the line was very, very low when it was announced, and a lot of people were second guessing the line and reconsidering what they want. But, the moment they got the figures in hand, they fell in love!! I recently picked up my first Legacy figure, Skids (just last night, in fact,). I was not hyped for him. I thought he looked hollow and kinda cheap. But getting him in hand, oh man he's great!!
Yeah they really are shattering expectations.
I think the fist-mace is supposed to act more like a boxing glove. Less for hurting the other guy, and more for protecting the hand, specifically the joints.
Also historically flails/balls on chains (or any weapon on a chain) is just generally not a good weapon due to the ability for them to just bounce back once they hit their intended target(if they do) and hit the weilder (something that happened to animated Bulkhead fairly frequently if I recall correctly).
But does the hand need the protection.
Also Sure the flail is hard to use, but it can be effective, and the rope his wat attached to was like hundreds of feet long, so it gave him tons of Range on his melee.

Great review PE! I’ve really loved this figure a ton since I got it. I didn’t think to use some of the accessories the way you did so thanks for the inspiration. Since Animated is technically the show I grew up with, at least a little bit, I’m also glad it looks kinda like it too, you kinda get the best of both worlds

To anyone that reads this, I found one in stores and it’s great. Don’t think of it as Prime Bulkhead, think of it as G1 bulkhead this figure looks way better in person, good accessories, great accessory storage for alt mode, shield is great as a shield, transformation is complex without being a pain posability is average or even slightly above. Alt mode also looks amazing. I’d give it a 9/10
A lot of people do think of it as G1 Bulkhead and they are offended by that. People are growing exhausted by the endless parade of G1 when serries that got them into the Transformers go ignored.
The tangent about Transformers: Animated's name really made me wonder why Hasbro keeps reusing names with no changes.

So 2 stories about my legacy Bulkhead :
I bought it at a target outside my town and whenever I unboxed it in my car, one of the wheels fell off and it was lost in the seats for over a week. Eventually the wheel was found and bulkhead was whole again. So those who want to buy this id be aware of the wheels popping off.
I was going for a bike ride to a friends house and bulkhead was in my hoodie pocket. Whenever I was going down my driveway at max speed, bulkhead flew out my pocket and tumbling on the road. The shield came off and he un transformed. To my surprise bulkhead had, I kid you not, ZERO scratches on ANYTHING. The shield is perfectly fine and nothing broke off, not even a wheel.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the Sunbow version of Bulkhead (who yes, I know doesn't exist but let me have my headcanons okay), a clumsy but well-intentioned demolitions expert and space bridge engineer trained by Grapple and Hoist. Just picture Animated Bulkhead, but with some added elements to tie him back into that universe.
Also, theory time: this was GOING to be a Legacy version of Animated Bulkhead, but someone on the design team feared they'd upset the Animated fans by deviating from that show's aesthetic (which IMO, not a problem; remember RTS Lugnut and how good he was despite not looking like his Animated version?), so they tried to turn it into a "Prime" Bulkhead with mixed results.
Definitely picking this big lug up. Now if only Hasbro could do a Lugnut in this style sometime in the future...

I really love the bulkhead figure, it is such a fun figure to have. Also when fiddling around with it, I got my Kup figure out and reenacted the do mayonnaise count as instruments from that marching band episode from Spongebob!!!

It looks great, and one of the most creative things Hasbro has done with Transformers in a long time. Although it definitely isn’t the TFP version (Thank God!), I can definitely tell it’s the Animated version (Military alt-mode, slumped shoulders, torso is the front of the car, similar feet design).
The prime designs are so boring. And yeah it is interesting to see them completely re-envision someone.
As someone who love Transformers Prime (+ Animated) show and Bulkhead, this truly looks better in my opinion, together with Arcee who also looks good as well.

Bit late here, but the the tires on Bulk's back are the spares that you'll find on it's real world counterpart, mounted behind the cab.
The hole on his back where you can plug the mingun is much stronger on the right side. To fix the left side, I put some super glue and now it perfectly works.
A really cool advice: if you turn his hands inside the cab in vehicle mode, they look like seats. I always do it.
Btw I don't agree with the fact that you have to partsform the shield to make transformation easier. Yeah it's still there but it's not that terrible. I've never had issues.
Imo, this figure is a solid 9/10. I still play with it after weeks. I love it.
How much superglue did you apply? Any specific method? Mine pegs in fine on the right but I hate how he has to peek under his minigun if I put him in a shield-centric pose.

This would be my favorite figure I own, if not for the QC. Out if the box, it was missing a metal pin in its foot, so if i ever move the foot too much it falls off.

I really like this figure honestly! Now I actually have found Legacy in stores, three of the deluxes and Bulkhead. Of course the two missing are the two I really want, Dragstrip and Blaster. BUT THEY DID HAVE 14 EFFING CORONATION STAR SCREAMS AFTER NOT HAVING LEADER FIGURES AT ALL SINCE 2017!
I have found coronation Starscreams before, and Had to resist buying it just for the seat.
A new toyline usually means my stores are stocked, something that can't be said for the other waves. It really feels like with each successive wave the figures take longer and have a higher chance of just not showing up at all.
He was easily the best of the first 3 I got (him, Arcee, and Skids) and is toe to toe with Dragstrip. Kickback is okay, but, well I'm sure you'll get to him.
So, yeah, Bulkhead is really, really good.
One thing to mention with the minicon port bit of the video, most minicon ports on figures (especially unicron and mega/galvatron, who had the most) did nothing, just allowed minicons to be attached. The ports on Bulkhead are just straight up minicon ports to hold them... weird to give that to Bulkhead and not any of the armada figures that came later on though

I remember hearing the rumors that we'd get an Animated Bulkhead and got excited, while I have the figure I was excited to see him on shelves again (heck I might've bough one to show support) .
When I saw that it was "G1 ified" I got upset but after a few reviews I started to see that he was pretty cool and might look great next to a hound I have of a similar color, and besides the head he could nicely hide with other G1 figures which is kinda cool.
It kinda makes me hope they do something like bringing us characters that were never made for a certain series (as toys or show characters) into toys. Like how we never got an Animated Kup or another non G1 character made into the G1 asthetic.
Yeah, I think this is a cool an interesting place for the figures to be. It makes everything you buy look cohesive like they belong together.
I wasn't going to get this figure as it is the only Legacy figure besides Kingdom Blaster that I've seen in stores, that and I was looking for Neca Gargoyles Bronx. I couldn't find Bronx and this guy was just shelf warming so I grabbed him and was thoroughly impressed. So glad they are starting the Legacy wave with such a strong figure just like Kingdom Cyclonus. I did do some customizing to mine as for me there was not enough paint. I painted his wheels, gas tanks, and the wires/hook in the winch on his bumper a Flat Steel and it makes him look that much better. Great review, keep up the amazing work.

Got this guy in yesterday. Perspective you are right on the money with this guy. A super fun figure with a alt mode that we never get to see. I am a WWII buff and even have my minor in History with focus on WWII. I have never owned a Duec n' ahalf before and though this may be a 5tonner it still fits the basic premis of that old logistics vehicle. We never get logistics vehicles they are always tanks and jeeps and big barreles that go boom. This guy is cool as hell and I really love that in his alternate mode you can use his truck bed as storage. Also, the leg panels can store stuff while in vehicle mode. My favorite part of this vehicle mode is that the tailgate swings down and becomes a ramp. Man they thought about everything with this guy. He now sits with Blaster and Cyclonis and Rodimus as one of my favorite Transformers I own.
Keep an ear to the ground for the video I make on this guy. Maybe next week depending on if I can finish up Brunt pretty quickly.

Yeah. They named it Animated to show general audiences that it was different than the 2007 film. It was also a backup in case the 2007 film flopped.
The second you mentioned Bulkhead in Animated, I instantly thought of the new Wreckers set that was listed on Amazon, and now I’m pretty sure what that set’s Bulkhead is gonna be. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be this repainted into Animated colors(darker green, green jaw, new tampos, etc.). I don’t know for sure, but it’s my best guess since it’s the only other alternative Bulkhead design. We know Topspin and Twin Twist are using the Diaclone colors(and probably Springer if he had a Diaclone toy, I can’t remember), we saw Leadfoot in the Wreckers comic, and I don’t know what the Impactor is gonna be(hopefully a single packed version of the Battle Pack one), but Animated was really the only other version of Bulkhead that really existed. Unless they go with the Beast Hunters one, which would be an odd choice if I do say so myself, I don’t really see them doing anything else.
But that’s just my hypothesis. It could end up completely different.

Agreed with like all of the video. If you turn the fists a little, the back of the hands look like headrests in vehicle mode. The ports on the traps work great to turn it into some sort of Green Goblin Glider. This is like my 3 year olds favorite of my figures (second is Seige Hound with all the weapon ports). I kind of wish the head was a little bigger but I really love this toy.

Note: Most Minicon ports normally are just there for the slap on gimmick. Universe-wise they'd power up the bot or con, but toy wise they're just there for the gimmick. Just look at Cybertron Metroplex. A whopping total of over 10 pegs, 4 of which are on the chest, but they're all just there cause he had the minicon. Also, we are rumored to get an Armada Starscream which hopefully will come with his Minicon of Swindle but we'll see

Yes. Yes I think they are worth that. If you got those all new that's like 250 worth of toys. Just the PotP Rodimus is 50 if you can even find it for that price any more.
I like this design except for one little thing, the head, its way to round and clashes with the rest of it, maybe they were scared people wouldn't reconize its blulked, but maybe they could add some more rounded parts or make the head more square, other than that its pretty good, overall 6 or 7 out of ten
The head is a very strange in comparison with the rest of the body.
If I would’ve found Blaster in stores first then Bulkhead probably wouldn’t be in my collection

The reason why animated got the title it got in my opinion based on something linger in my head, casual audiences or corporate people's spite/perspective towards animation. When the 07 movie released, the casual's perspective towards it it's like this is the first time they heard the Transformers name or for them it feels like the Transformers brand has better recognition because there's now a "REAL" version of it. Which lead to the Animated show got it's name because it probably got the attention of the kids at the time who barely or never heard of the Transformers name before the "REAL" movie released. Just a thought.

@@PerspectiveEnd , yeah, some people still absolutely despise what hasbro has provided. I honestly love this design, it looks like a brand new character while still capturing the essence of who he is based off of.
4:49 I think the reason why is because he would hurt his hand if he bare-knuckle punched someone, there's still joints and servos that can be stressed or broken if he punched hard enough. The mace acts like a knuckle duster, protecting the fingers while enhancing the damage done by punches.
imo the mace thingy is just a stronger petak that can't be worked as easily into fingers/are stronger as big pieces. kinda like how a hollow sphere is stronger to getting pulled apart than a full one (or soemthing like that, idk, all I remember was a pretty funny illustration that I saw in a science book when I was a kid)

I bought this figure months ago at a convention, and I cant stop fidgeting with it. It also feels like a good companion piece to Hound. Probably because of Movie Hound. I can see this Bulkhead being a mix of Animated Bulk and Movie Hound

By far the best review I've seen of this figure. I knew there was a way to give this guy an ab crunch, it's so good to see a reviewer actually experimenting with the joints on his toys! I too am all for misusing transformation joints if it means giving some extra articulation to your figures. Also, really liked the idea of turning Bulkead into a matador or turning his wrecking ball into a sort of Cybertronian Chromatic Orb spell, I'll definiteyl give those a try once my copy arrives.
Personally I'm also glad this new Bulky has some more substancial legs. Him having suc diminutive drumsticks worked well with TFA's more cartoony aesthetics, but the more realistic textures of Prime made had turned them into awkward, cumbersome dwellers of the Uncanny Valley. Speaking of TFA, I was always pretty puzzled by the show's name. Maybe they really wanted to stress the show being mostly hand drawn as opposed to the CG bots of Energon and Cybertron, but there had to be a better phrase to convey that idea. That being said, it's still a better title than friggin' Earthspark. I can't stand that ugly clutter of consonants right in the middle of it, and I'm convinced the person that had come up with it only ever typed it down and never bothered to check how it sounds spoken out loud. Maybe it's just a me problem, but personally I can't for the life of me pronounce "earthspark" without sounding like I'm doing a bad impression of TFA Prowl faking static.

I know Warforged is right there, and the boost to AC is thematic for him, but the flavor of half-orc or tortle really seems to fit the bill in my opinion. What do you think?
@@alexanderlowery470 I'm not super familiar with DnD post 3e, but having looked up a few pics of tortles I'd say an orc-tortle hybrid really does seem to be on-point for a Bulkheadesque character. Hope the penalties on intelligence and charisma from the orcish side don't mess the character's magical aspirations up too much.
@@RosencrantzxGuildenstern Oh! 5e recently (relatively speaking) took away negative ability scores. First with the 5e version of Eberron (best setting ever), then with the critical role setting. Then in 2020, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything introduced new rules where you can just assign your racial stat boosts to whatever stats you want. So a +2 CON/+1 CHA sorcerer would be a pretty solid build without any huge tradeoffs! You could do the other way around but c'mon, CON is definitely Bullkhead's highest stat haha!
As someone who by some miracle found both bulkhead and laser prime in my local store, I can say that they really are awesome, oh yeah, I found that the minigun pegs on the opposite side better than the one shown in pictures
As for the "minicon port" the idea is probably that hasbro was gonna release minicons as part of other large figures (cybertron metroplex was gonna have his but they ran out of budget) so it may have been similar to how doubledealer has the power masters, but in reference only.
Tldr: bulk good, minicons are on the table

According to another of my subscribers, old minicons don't fit those ports. And it wouldn't make sense. Why would Bulkhead be the only one to get ports like that?
I got my copy on Monday, it's ironic how small his gun is considering his function is "heavy munitions" and the right gas tank for the alt mode is missing right out of the box.
I wish I had mentioned how silly it looks in his hand, it's so dinky.

Epic review PerspectiveEnd!! I was going to pass on Bulkhead at first, but now that I have him, I do not regret adding him to my collection. :D I think this figure was intended to be Generation 1 Bulkhead, which I know technically does not exist, rather then being Prime Bulkhead. This is at least what I think the designers were thinking when creating this latest figure of the green Autobot Wrecker. Keep on being amazing.
I think more it's Animated Bulkhead, run through a Chug Filter. They wanted it to match with the last several years of the Generations line, so they didn't let this stick out too far from the WFC.

I think the idea with the metal ball is that it's larger and heavier than a fist, so it's like the difference between being hit by a rock and being hit by a boulder or hitting someone with a piece of rebar vs whacking someone with a sledgehammer.
I find if you transform the entire lower leg section first then put the spare tires up while folding the shield down it’s manageable to do without partsforming

Go to your local Targets and ask which day a certain figure restocks and go there on that day as early as possible. I got my G2 laser prime by doing that. It was the last one on the shelf, too
I don't have the time to show up like that. Making this show takes so much time I got very little in the way of a free moment, and those tend to be not when I want them.
@@PerspectiveEnd You could maybe give them a call, and ask if an employee would hold it for you. My Target doesn't do that, but others do. Target just dumped the whole wave 1 of legacy 3 months ahead and are restocking them. Probably a presale deal they had.
Both Bulkhead and Arcee are excellent figures and I personally prefer the Prime universe redesign that Legacy has given them.
I can't outbuy the leg kibble on that Arcee... Backpack management is fine with me but They have really got to figure out a way to get those half wheels off the outside of her calves... I'd rather fully parts form that damn wheel off like WrekGar

I think the wrecking ball is a protective shell so he doesn't bust up the joints in his fingers when he goes Hulk mode.

Prime Bulkhead may have a goofy design but it is his goofy design so changing it makes him feel less like bulkhead and a lot more generic to some

Also yes I know prime isn't the only bulkhead but given that the head is most like the prime version I just thought it would be appropriate to say that this figure is a reimagining of that version of the character
I found this figure along with most of the first wave of legacy and picked them up a few weeks ago, I loved the bulk head despite its downright awful back (if not parts formed). The initial outrage was never really there for me and I was just looking forward to the new release given I loved both versions of the character prior but was to young at the time to care for collecting let alone actually finding one of the prior toys of the character. Your video is great as always.

One thing I wanted to know was how do you feel about the hollowness of the chest?
I love this reinterpretation of bulkhead, but every time I see his chest I’m left thinking he’s wearing a square balloon because you can see right through it. I think choosing to use clear plastic for that piece was a bad decision; the clear windows ruin the illusion of bulk. I also don’t like the fact that you can see all the way into his chest from below… but at least deluxes can shelter under him for shade… or wear him as a hooded cloak!
But maybe that’s just me.
The fortified gun emplacement was amazing.
The hollowness isn't bad. You really only notice it with high downwards or low upwards angles.
If it bothers you, you could paint the windows but I don't think it's necessary.

While I like my bulkheads extra thicc, I don’t have the energy or brain cells to hate the Legacy Bulky. I got bigger fish to fry IRL than hating a toy, also got FE bulkhead in January so I’m good when it comes to bulkhead.

And I wouldn't call this a Cyclonus competitor. The Cyclonus had a much more enjoyable transformation, and his modes were incredibly on point.

I personally love this figure and it has the most bang for your Buck. Sure the chest is a bit hollow in robot mode but that’s just because you have to hide the arms for the alt mode and for 22 dollars which is the same price as the skids and Acree this is the better option than both of them.
Yeah, this is absolutely one of the better voyagers we've gotten in several years.
The concept of a blunt weapon in a world of metal beings is kinda silly but is actually a very destructive tool if you look back in medieval times. The best weapon agaisnt a knight is a blunt weapon cuz it sends shockwaves and concussive energy across a wider area, especially when aiming for the head and other weak points. so imagine the heavy Goliath that bulkhead is swinging a mace with his full weight behind it straight onto an enemy, such a thing will not only smash the metal flesh in on itself but can generate enough energy to cripple whatever technical organs are inside it, like a full body concussion. On top of that bulkhead’s mace has stumps and dull spikes to allow a guaranteed break in armor with his full force right behind it to further push into that crack.
Oh believe me I have no problem with a Blunt weapon being used. That part makes tons of sense. It's just that it's made out of his hand which is just his hand. It should work about the same.

I’ve never heard of the rumor of Bulkhead being a Optimus retool. The closest I’ve heard of that is some fans speculating that Bulkhead could get retooled into other characters around his size class.
Yeah, early on people were saying this was going to be retooled from the ER Prime which was always weird.
when transformers scan earth modes, where do they get more space inside, do they akready have storage areas and do those just tranfer to the alt mode
Or more likely because of the honeymoon phase in the process of getting these: Announcements come, people were excited, then pictures came up, and those sparked the controversies, most likely due to the fact that people wanted the perfect representations of those Prime Universe counterparts, even Kingdom strengthened those ties BECAUSE the beasts were extremely accurate to the source material. Anyways, pictures are there, people dunking on/hating the figures, and what happened after that?

As a G1 Bulkhead, it's not bad. BUT, as a Prime Universe Bulkhead, in which this Voyager class figure is SUPOSSED to represent, it's failing spectacularly.

Knockout's altmode is just about perfect though. So you could get him and the RED figure and have a perfect Knockout between the two.

The rest of them probably died because the charged an entrenched position with melee weapons, screaming Wreck and Rule at the top of their lungs so the didn't even get the element of surprise.

The figure definitely seems better in hand than when it was first announced. The mini gun is cool but kinda seems small for bulkhead if he’s holding it. Like maybe if was meant to be underslung and the barrels could fit blast effects but the rest of him is solid

I would name transformers animated, transformers reborn (I'm 95% sure that name is taken but it fits) its set in a post war eviroment, and a lot of the classic characters got cool new takes, and at least 3 characters kinda came back from the dead

No no no, the rumor wasn’t that he’s a retool of ER Optimus, it’s that he’s a pretool of a Prime Universe Beast Hunter Optimus. Given the shape of bulkhead’s proportions, the fact he comes with a machine gun, and you can replace the tarp shield with a foldable jetpack, and it looks like that might be true.
Also, do you know how many figures have minicon ports but no minicon gimmicks? A handful of Cybertron toys, Generations Armada Starscream, Combiner Wars Megatron. Those are minicon ports, minicons fit on them.
That is not the Rumor I was told. The rumor I heard was even before we got pictures.
