    Another awsome fix by the master of youtube electronics, so many varied skills and the confidence it could be diagnosed and fixed even though he had not fixed one before. As the battery was so difficult to access I would have made a hole in the base to make access easier next time and covered the hole with a plastic plate and a couple of s all screws (or even a piece of duct tape) to hold it in place. Thank you for sharing this fix. My girlfriends Acer boots into tne bios when its not been used for some time so this fix is on the cards for me in the next couple of weeks.

      drilling holes and laptops are not so friends :D worth taking a look on a service manual like here www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/ and take the thing apart beeing careful.. use a very good quality\brand batt (no matter the size with same supposed 3 volts) unless you like to open it again some months ahead (ebay scams as well with fakes)

    I have been needing to do this to my Acer notebook. I didn't know the keyboard popped out. Maybe mine does too. I will give it a try. Thanks for the video.

      They all pop out, usually the same way as this.

    While technology has moved forwards, sometimes it is going in reverse. Take the early Macintosh computers, for example. They had a door for the battery on the back so that you could replace the battery in seconds; now you have to take the whole thing apart instead of them just being sensible and putting a battery door on the bottom or something.

      Same with cell phones. No more user replaceable battery.

      Today's MacBooks are made to be almost unrepairable. Louis Rossmann on youtube shows good examples...

      I am fully aware of this. CBC TV show Marketplace called them out last week. They had a macbook pro that had a bent pin on the connector for the backlight. Apple store said it would be 1200 for a new display, not worth fixing. They took it to Louis Rossmann's shop in new york, and within 2 minutes he had it open, and inspected the point of many failures, the edge connector and had it up and running in no time. No different than that digital 8 camera that was shipped to me to fix a month or so ago. For those that don't know, Louis Rossmann is an "unauthorized apple repairman" that Apple wishes would just go away so they can continue to fcuk their customers up the @ss

    Hello, fantastic video thank you. Its been driving me nuts having to set the date every time I use it.. got to end, started it up, it came up with the same screen as you, pressed F1.. nothing... I have re watched video, followed it again, still not getting passed the start up screen, rechecked all the wires, haven't got a clue... Any ideas of what I can try...

    The new laptops , I pulled out with there screens failing shortly after .
    They are built around cheepness & speed so I dont look out for another one .
    This laptop must of been standing for some time for that to go flat , never had that before .

    It's a good idea to remove the battery when testing as it can keep the settings alive even if CMOS battery is dead.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would that make any difference, and BTW I did unplug it while I was replacing the battery so there would be no chance of corrupting anything as the connection was made as I wrapped it up in tape.

    • @cstubed
      @cstubed 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean that when a pc is powered by a source (battery with charge or power supply), whenever the CMOS battery is dead or not it can keep the bios settings. In your case when you shut down the netbook, the laptop battery (not CMOS battery) shall be removed for a while and power button keep pressed for a few seconds to ensure that any remaining charge is gone, before turn it back on to see if settings remained.

    I replaced my sister's cmos battery and it was a complete disassembly to get to it .... they don't want it to be easy to replace ... most folks will let the place that made it replace it LOL (way to make more money LOL) at least you can get the service manual at I was able to and it tells you exactly how to take it apart ... in most cases it is on the mother board naturally in the most inconvenient place at that you may as well be a builder of the thing because you (in most cases) have to completely take EVERYTHING apart as you see in the video LOL a nightmare for sure ... it more strange those.systems won't even boot if the CMOS battery is dead (at least my sister's wouldn't) or too weak home computers simply go to the BIOS screen so settings can be made or you can tell BIOS to finish post and go ahead a boot

    I have one of these with the same issue. I put linux on it and also put a SSD because I'm a moron. However, I just press F2 and it boots fine. Maybe my CMOS is a higher version

    After watching this, I'm gonna keep limiting my computer repair to the desktop variety! Asus isn't the only brand that makes access to components difficult, and those tiny ribbon cables are easy to mess up!

    That was a bloody stupid place for a cmos battery, but it's been there for a hell of a long time, it did well, good old machine :-D.
    Apart from doing a temp directory clearing and defrag once in a blue moon., xp should be happy enough.
    I still use xp on this acer aspire i use, no arguements or nonsense that later windows creates.
    I have a decent firewall and virus protection, i have never had any virus on this system.
    Xp is not unsafe, its the users that are unsafe by not protecting there p.c.

    We love these computers because they have a wide range of connectors which is great for our many CNC machines.
    Generally the BIOS battery connector is located near the fan connector. Chinese batteries come in different shapes and sizes, loose OR stuck to the PCB.

    That trickle tape tends to creep with time; heat shrink might have been a better way to go to
    maintain contact pressure, 'cept for the heat.... lol ?? careful micro Spot Weld wire to battery (do not heat it up) ??

    Well i hope no one is connecting to the internet via that.. because xp got very very serious issues that is not patched and will never be patched because its not supported since 2014. Best option is to upgrade to light distribution of linux or to windows 7, 8.1.

      Actually microsoft has continued to patch XP as believe it or not it is still in use in millions of embedded devices. They stopped patching the consumer version but there are still updates pushed for embedded devices such as bank machines and those will continue until April 2019.

    • @Markokk888
      @Markokk888 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only for posready 2009 and the updates not compatible with the other versions unless they modded. Ether way microsoft said before that even if the last embedded version is still supported they still wont gonna change the architecture and the core of the os.. so because of that many security issues are out there even if you patch it fully.. some of them cant be addressed.. because of that. so it's not a bullshit. SinsBrid you are really don't know what bullshit is :D saying that everything is perfectly fine with this is bullshit.. lying to yourself not gonna change the facts.. the time is ended for xp long ago ant nothing you can do about that.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Home versions of XP can easily be made to take the embedded equipment updates by making a small change to the regestry key. I did that years ago, and this computer and my other one running XP still get monthly updates.
