    Greetings Sorin it just goes to show how simple mistakes can take you down a rabbit hole, What I also admire about you is never bash the customers , the repair shop or the beginner who got it wrong but you encourage them to keep on going and don't give up. Thank you for your generousity and in-depth knowledge of electronics of which you genuinely share with your subscribers. Thanks again you are my inspiration.

    Back in the day we used to briefly log the fault and steps taken for remediation using short hand, with faults like this, on the repair sheet we would put ESTO ' which means 'Equipment Smarter Than Operator'

    Stangely, this connector is NOT poka-yoke. Its not mistake proof. However, at 16:20 you can see it has bplue pencil on right side, I believe customer can confirm that on original battery, there is blue pencil on connector from battery also. So its not poka-yoke in physical form, but someone marked it to make it poka-yoke.

    • @Denise_in_progress
      @Denise_in_progress ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe this aftermarket battery has other colours than the original one. So it indicates the customer did Mark it before removing but never saw how to put in the new battery, maybe that's why the battery connector got broken.

      probably customer broke it when removing the battery or when forcely reinserted it
      I remember my first computer was a C64 (yes I'm that old) that my father's boss gave away to him because it stopeed working, happened that the secretary tried to set it up and managed to connect the power supply into the video/audio output.
      I friend of my dad kind of fixed it but the sound chip was beyond repair. I grew up with a mute C64

  • @ericjarvie
    @ericjarvie ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Obviously the customer did not pay close attention to the connectors original specifications which no doubt in its construction would have only allowed an one-way fit...still he should have guessed that if the battery is cheaper than the OE equipment then something must be missing and it would appear an small tang to insure proper correct and more importantly safe fitting on the connector port was one of those missing items..mind you after all of this it doesnt look like he saved any money so let that be lesson because as they say in this life then "you really do get what you pay for"...!!

    A lesser Tech would have not spotted that.

  • @ChrisPavlides
    @ChrisPavlides ปีที่แล้ว

    As a technicians, we have to deal with these jobs also. The bad thing is that we almost taking the hard ways to figure it out whats the issue, because someone else did something. In the other hand, we have to be payed for the time we spend to figure it out what was the problem, even if the issue is something easy like in this case.
    The big question here is, what you can charge the customer for? That should be a tricky answer. (Hypothetic question).
    The truth is behind what Sorin said in the end of this video. "You know, some times you have to visit a Computer Shop to do things". and what ever this means.

  • @xx3868

    Usually ,they mould the connector to only go in one way with those little nibs of plastic so you cant do it wrong. So is this a design fault? and thank god, nothing was shorted with power going to the chips but they made so you could "safely" put it in either way?? but better to just make it one way possible?

    So you think you are a genius for fixing the mistake. The manufacture is the only one to blame here. They should not even have to dig in that far to replace the battery in the first place. The designer didn't keyway that connector on purpose. Glad you figured it out but don't get mad at the CX for trying to save a few bucks. Makes you out to be the azzhole in this case. BTW you are far from genius.
