REFRESHING the Asus Eee PC (Epic Revival Edition)

- The restoration process of my old Asus Eee PC (1000HE). I start with an external cleaning by vacuuming the dust and disinfecting the case. I replace the ruined feet and I do a hardware upgrade, changing the RAM (from 1GB to 2GB!!!) and inserting a new SSD in place of the old (and broken) HDD. I install Lubuntu instead of the old operating system (I don't even remember what it was, I think Windows XP) and proceed to replace the thermal pads which are now almost liquid (you can see the status in the video). If you want to know how to install the new operating system I can make a separate video but I think there is no need, it's very simple. In the end everything works well, I'm happy to have restored this computer, I will use it to study some Shell Scripting comfortably on the sofa, it's perfect for this job. I gave the video a fun twist to try out a new and slightly more light-hearted format, also because I had a lot of fun doing this editing and I couldn't stop. Greetings to all my friends who are subscribed and to those who are not yet, and also to those who will never be :-)
Note: disconnect the fan from the PC if you blow air on it or keep the fan still to prevent it from reaching excessive speeds. Don't overdo it with air: electrical current could flow back to the motherboard or the fan could be damaged by the pressure (deforming the structure), or dust could enter from behind towards the rotor if the spray is misdirected.

Really loved the video! Even though people say it's just amateur editing, but the effort and comedic effects really show your potential in content creating. Keep making videos like this!!! 💯
Thanks for the nice words. I'm still in the experimenting phase. As long as I'm having fun and have material for videos, I'll keep going and try to improve. Thanks again 😀
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC 👍👍👍
I could hear the BIOS/CMOS battery screaming "What about me?" Enjoyed the video, Ta
You're right! The battery!! 🤣
The sock at the start had me instantly! +1
Thank you!! In my latest videos this thing is taking a strange turn 🤣🤣🤣
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC Which video is that?
You can find the sock in the wallet video and on the test to find out if the moka pot stinks. It was just for fun but I see it's having success 😄
Exactly the same upgrades as i did for my eee 1005pe, running linux mint. I think that 2GB of ram is the most limiting factor for those machines.
HI! I'm using this Eee to study a bit of Bash scripting. It's excellent for this job.
@@OrdinaryLife-ABCOh, it can do even more. I used it for c# - .net programming in Mono.
When I studied C I always had this toy in my hands around the house, always turned on. A few years have passed. I have some great memories with this little computer
en tout cas, sa qualité de son est correcte pour voir des films ou des vidéos.
Thanks!
Netbooks probably weren't all that great when they came out, as people were trying to use them as daily drivers with varying results. But given how cheap they can be had now, they make for neat little machines to play around with as well as for running retro games.

9:58 AM is the moment I have to say thank you!
I really enjoyed the Video
I'm happy for this. Have a good day!

Thank you! I'm even happier :-)
So unhappy in the end as it went off to be a door stop?
Hi! I admit I use it a lot now, and not as a doorstop! :-)
Well done brother you doing to bring back life's ola laptop 😊
Thank you!!
I got an Eee PC 701 at home, with non-upgradable storage of 4 gb. The ram was upgradable to 2gb, but not the storage. So it's really hard to get ANY os to run on it. I managed to somehow install an older version of Puppy Linux and Firefox 113, connect it to my wifi network and access my Mealie server in the kitchen, so it does kind of work.
Unfortunately, the age of these objects does not help. However, some specific uses can still be found for them.
I still have mine but it's like it has some type of cancer in the fans (it does some crazy noise) xD probably needs some serious cleaning but im too scared
Cleaning it is not difficult, the important thing is that you don't spin the fan with compressed air like I did. Hold it still
The EeePeeCee!
Yes, that's definitely it! :-)
I have the AMD version and while it handles 8GB of RAM just fine which makes Linux a lot snappier unlike your model I had to completely disassemble it to get to the HDD to swap for the SSD. talk about a PITA.
Yes, having to disassemble everything to reach the HDD is quite annoying. These 2GB are enough for me because, after years, I feel like studying programming again and instead of sitting with the bigger laptop on my knees, for sofa use and 10 minutes of code lines, this is great. The battery still lasts an eternity for how I use it. Bye and have a good day!
I suffer watching how you spin the fan while it still was connected to the mobo
My friend, this video is to cheer you up, not to make you suffer! There's a reason I wrote not to overdo it with compressed air. Anyway, thanks for pointing it out to me.
Although it's not a video tutorial I've added a couple of notes about the disconnecting of the fans in the first comment and in the description, maybe it can be useful to someone. Thanks again and have a nice day :-)

What product did you use at the end for the shine??
Hi! I use a simple watch polish, the acrylic glass polish.
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC this polish can be used on different types of laptop surfaces? Like steel and plastic surfaces?
For metal surfaces a different method and a completely different polishing paste (specific for metals) are needed, while for plastic surfaces it's fine (in fact, I have polished acrylic watch glasses and different plastic surfaces with it, ). If you want professional products, you can find everything online, including polishing pastes of various grades and all kinds of pads (for these small jobs, I use pieces of a good new microfiber cloth). Pay attention to the type of plastic you are starting with, if it is rough, scratched, damaged, coated, painted, it may require different approaches. I hope I have been helpful to you
i have the 999 eee pc. it still works.
Hi! I'm not an expert on the various Eee PC models, the important thing is that they still work (and are still suitable for our specific use). Have a nice day!
i had one of those eee netbooks before and i remember i cant even run minecraft on it ☠️
Minecraft? It was already a miracle if It ran the text editor 🤣
Sono abbastanza certo che la parte finale sarà il vero uso del computer
Ti stupirò ma è ottimo anche come tagliere per il pane! 🤣
What OS install ? Xubuntu ? Alpine ? Puppy linux ?
Hi. I'm currently using Lubuntu, but would like to try Alpine on RAM. I'll try it one day when I have time to dedicate
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC I have a eee PC with N2600 CPU, It has a problem video card GMA 3600 , and with Alpine and other Linux the screen become black. Only xubuntu go correctly. I dont know tò solve this problem. N2600 2 cores 4 theead, 2Gbyte RAM and SSD.

@@gigiadd2816 Unfortunately I'm not an expert and I don't know how to help you. Sorry. Consider that I have been struggling with the Windows blue screen on my main computer for three days 🤣
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC strange, modern win version rarely have Blue screen. Sorry
Can run RDR2?
You mean the video game?
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC Yeah (it's a meme) but a cloud gaming...?
I have no idea, sorry. I highly doubt it will work

This end😢
🤣🤣🤣
android x86 might be better
Yes, interesting. I have a stack of SSDs to do some testing, I will also try this OS. I also wanted to test Alpine in RAM. Thank you for the advice!
@@OrdinaryLife-ABC ram is not upgradable ?
Yes, the maximum supported by my Eee (1000HE) is 2GB. In fact I upgraded from 1GB to 2GB. It doesn't change much :-)
