Loved this issue and whole comic miniseries! I KNEW that Snoke was lying about connecting Ben and Rey and that they were always connected!

Soooo....one thing I havent noticed a lot of people talking about is that Mimban is the planet where the first ever Star Wars expanded universe novel by Alan Dean Foster took place. That novel was titled "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" (e.g. Mindsplinter) really freaking cool homage here by Charles Soule!

I knew that was supposed to be a low budget sequel to star wars that was replaced by ESB, but I didn't know it was considered part of the EU.
Did it take place between episodes 4 & 5?
@@bradneece2409 yeah, I dont think it is considered strictly "canon" (although, none of the EU is now lol). It had some weird elements like a potential Luke-Leia romance and strange Force powers, I think today it's treated more as a curious part of SW history than a true story

I wish this had gone on longer like the Vader series and we see him get his robes and helmet but I'm fine with what we got.

The Kylo Ren series had a story to tell and that was how Ben became Kylo. The story didn’t need to go any longer but maybe another series about Kylo going on missions for Snoke and afterwards leading the First Order could be a fun series and could expand on his character.
Rey wasn't the first one to see that there was still hope for him and I'm actually happy with this.
It makes the gesture of giving the hand way more meaningful because somebody already tried to show to Ben that it wasn't too late. That person was Tai.
It kind of reinforces the idea that the young generation is the key to end the conflict.
Tai's death got to me, would've loved to see more of his character.
I wonder if Ben's life would have been better if he joined Tai.
Despite knowing how this comic was going to end as well as how Ben Solo's story ends, I think this comic does what all good supplemental content should do. Expand the overall story.

I have to agree with you. I think that through the movies, shows, books and comics Kylo Ren has become one of my favorite Star Wars characters, ever. His hole character and story is just so interesting. I hope we get more of Kylo’s story at some point. Even in the Last Jedi which I didn’t care for I still liked what they did with him. ( Rise of Skywalker to me is my 3ed favorite Star Wars movie only behind Revenge and Empire. Kylo is the best in rise.) But ether way I hope we get more of kylo at some point.

I loved this finale to TROKR. I particularly liked the detail of Rey feeling Ben’s fall, as it reinforces how LF is making their bond something that had always existed. I must admit that this makes me even sadder about his death. It feels like a bond of that nature should have always given them the opportunity of being able to work together. And they got so very little of that!
I was also really glad that they included Ben bleeding his crystal. It was after all Charles Soule who showed us the process of Vader bleeding his crystal, and the amount of pain, hate and anger necessary to commit the act. It was the description of this act in the Vader comic that made me suspect Ben’s cracked crystal was a result of him bleeding his own crystal. Especially after TLJ revealed that his saber was in fact the same one from his Jedi training. Using his own crystal, something so connected to him on a spiritual level, and having it crack, is such a great way to symbolize the harm he is inflicting on himself. And yet another way he differed from Vader.
I’m excited to hear you plan to make a video covering Ben’s life up until his fall. I try to read any and all sources LF gives us that include details about my favorite character. I would enjoy having some dialogue with you about Ben’s story as you research information for your upcoming video, if it would be of any assistance to you.

Just realized... Of course, the double lightsabers « I am the shadow » thing is a reference of TROS Rey ;0 But like... Ben doesn’t want to live in the shadow of Luke, Obi-Wan, Leia, Han or anyone else. He wants to BE « the » shadow. Be him. Be his own shadow. Break free of all those legacies.
He wants to be no one. Like... REY IN TLJ! The « You’re nothing. But not to me. » has a deeper meaning now🤯
Also, for the yellow eyes, the thing is... it was just for a second. He used the dark side to bleed his crystal. And then, it cracks. And his eyes was brown again. For Anakin (until ROTJ), Maul and Sidious, it was permanent. So no, he is not completely in the dark side. He is trapped in it. Because like Ren and Tai (❤️) said, this is not what HE truly is. His fate is not the dark side, even if Snoke/Palpatine tried to make him believe it since he was in his mother’s womb.

AT-AT Chat I was like: I FREAKING KNEW IT! Now, the TFA « What girl? », TFA novel « It is you » and TFA Rey’s vision of him after touching the Skywalker’s saber make more sense🤔 They saw/felt each other way before they met!
It's an inversion, right? She believes that who she is meant to be comes from the answers about bloodline.
He is part of the bloodline and tries to build a new identity that is apart from his family.
This is good antagonism right here.

I'd prefer multiple season to this series, prolly the first 2-3 seasons could explain ROTJ and TFA gap and the remaining 2-3 seasons can explain on Kylo's reign as Supreme Leader pre TROS.

I love seeing Ben's turn. Sure, I wish we got a little more. More explanation of snoke and the knights themselves. But what we got was pretty great in my opinion. Still my favorite character ever!
“I am the shadow” from Ben/Kylo is fascinating. He’s a character who felt like he’s always lived in the shadow of others, in their reputation and legacy- So for once he decides to BE the one casting the shadow, to be that shadow that creates stories that others aspire to.
Likewise, the specific use of the word ‘shadow’ for how Ren refers to the dark side is clever because of this. Regardless of his in-universe reasons, from a meta standpoint, it’s meant to tie into Ben’s whole theme of living in the shadow of others; So the specific phrase ties well into his declaration of being the shadow. He hears Ren say the word ‘shadow’ and his response can be read in two ways, both the literal sense of being all-powerful in the dark side, but also the meta sense of no longer living in someone else’s shadow but casting his own. Ren refers to the dark side when he cites the shadow, but Ben/Kylo is referring to the dark side AND the legacy he grew up on. It’s some very clever wordplay on Soule’s part that ties together two seemingly unrelated things.

Cool video. There is way too much investment in Ben for this to be the last we see of him, and too much money to be made in bringing him back. We will get more stories of him and Rey.
There has been rumors that George Lucas will be doing a Clone Wars type show for the sequel trilogy with Dave Feloni and Jon Favreau, set after TRoS

I wish that I had read this whole thing before watching TROS because A) it's a better reveal of Palatine being alive, and makes the line "I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head" a lot less jarring.
B) Ben's flip-of-a-switch change of heart when hearing his mother's voice feels more believable
If I knew somebody watching the ST for the first time, I'd definitely recommend them reading this after TLJ. But not chronologically before TFA. I feel that would cheapen the experience of episodes 7&8.

This one was truly heartbreaking, but so, so good.
It's also important to note that although the Knights were strong with Dark side, they were untrained.
The Ben tai fight gave obi wan vs Anikan vibes it felt like dajà vu and showed how similar Ben and Anikan are

Is that why he reacted when he heard "the girl" and took Rey instead of BB-8 because she senses him?
The novelisation kind of implies that Rey had seen him before in a "nightmare", so it's possible that they could've unknowingly shared Force visions.
Also kinda wish they kept one of the students alive and could have extended their story with a tv show or a comic
I kinda think that Ben Solo and Tai had a like bromance? I really hope that they use more of Ben Solo in the future.

His job was obviously causing violence and wreaking havoc, bet he killed a lot of people. He was tagged "Jedi Killer" considering he only killed 2 jedi, that doesnt seem right. There must be some more of them.

You know, if people had stopped acting on impulse for five dang seconds, none of this would have ever happened.
Also, if Luke had forgotten his lightsaber for once in his life, none of this would have happened.
That's what people do though. Act on impulse. Look what's going on around the world. That's why Luke's fall in The Last Jedi is so fantastic because he's not a superhero, he never was. He's a human that commits human mistakes.
@@epidemic1207 What's interesting about where the Sequel Trilogy took Luke is that, while he was in a dark place, he had not gone over to the Dark Side of the Force.
No, Luke had simply cut himself off from the Force. Light Side, Dark Side- neither one could whisper to him on that island. All Luke had was his depression and self-loathing. It's a much more complicated direction to take Luke, and it is awesome for it.

@@ATATChat I really liked Voe, I did understand why she acted the way she did and why she had this negative mindset about Ben. And I begin to feel sorry for her as well, also, I have a headcanon where when Ben died, he reunites with Tai who's happy to see him.
Tai loved Ben, and was really the only one who ever saw him, until Rey.
What I thought was that Ben and Ren would battle and during the battle, Ren activates his kill switch on his lightsaber, causing his and Ben's lightsabers to get flash burnt and ben getting his crystal cracked in the process of the explosion. Afterwards ben would bleed the crystal then create the crossguard. I still love how it all turned out.

@@ATATChat It was more than enough for me. Kylo Ren is forever wrapped up in Adam Driver's psyche, for me. And, as ex-military, I feel he gave Kylo the complexity of a USA veteran: the despair that brings you to the army in the first place, the training to become a killer, the PTSD that kills you in the end. Adam was miraculously saved from actually serving overseas, but his continued contact with his former teammates must have informed his interpretation of the character.
The struggle is real.
I would pay real money to see the table read of the FA, and watch him progressively find the caracter, and decide to enbody him
I think this comic was good considering how messed up the development of the Sequel Trilogy was.
