It is not about the money or about the fame. It is about how much that man loved that car to keep it that clean after all those years. My deepest respect to him for keeping it so well.
Great story. Adorable original owners. Early S-code Boss 9. Great taste in cars! ...All original. Monthly payment $55 bux a month...!!! Dale and Phyllis you made a great investment in your future. Enjoy your retirement!
This was truly a great investment, they got all the joy of owning the car and the sold it for a ridiculously high price! Awesome video and a great story.
415 s30 I recently went from using my supercharged Mach 1 as a daily driver to relegating it to weekend duty and occasionally taking it to work if the weather is really nice. It still has very low miles, and I want to stop racking them up. It makes it more special when you do drive it, and it will last longer.
I love the vinyl smell, someone needs to make it into an air freshener! Beautiful car, it was definitely one of my favorites of the show. Very cool to hear the original owners talk about it. Thanks for the video!
If I am not mistaken the reason ya see a difference in the hoodscoop color is the hood scoops were painted with lacquer at a different time at the car kraft plant .

Reading between the lines... I'll guess the low milage happened because they started a family. He bought the car new to celebrate his graduation. Got a job, bought a house, had a baby. Now the two door car is just not the best fit for the family. They bought something with four doors but he loved the car so it didn't get traded in. It went into the new garage for occasional use only. Lucky for Ford fans. Next issue: Ford did not build this car to beat all the muscle cars on the street. If they wanted to do that, they certainly could've. They needed a race engine for NASCAR competition. To qualify, they needed to sell at least 500 of these engines in production vehicles. That's why the carb limited power to 375 HP. The pump gas available limited the compression. The tiny carb obviated a need for dual exhaust but in 70 they added it to help sales. That package required a lower RPM range cam for street use. The heads, valves, block, intake, crank and rods, transmission and rear end were all race car ready. I guess a quick swap of carb and open dual exhaust would've added 50 HP for the street. Drag racers could've swapped the cam and pistons to run race gas or methanol. All those parts are very easy to change while it's very hard to accomplish a high RPM tuned induction and exhaust system and race engine short block. Ford provided the very difficult parts for the racing teams but it was right there for the hobbyist as well. This engine would have dominated NASCAR except the NASCAR organization changed their rules which eliminated the need for production. The value of the car cannot be argued. Once the hammer falls at the auction, the value of this asset is indisputable for that day and location. Now three years later, they'd probably open bidding at $300k with increments of 10, it might fetch $400k.
Wow! A rare gem. Nice to see an authentic and totally original car that is just the way it was meant to be when it left the factory in 1969. Unlike the many over restored cars you see. I hope she has gone to a good home and remains just as she is. Thanks for sharing.
It's sad in a way to see someone have to let a car like this go. Not only does it have automotive historical significance, but it also has important family historical significance. I know this is an older video, but once again you show the great story behind the car. Thanks Rich!
Thank you, yes they were ready to let it go and I spoke to their adult sons and they were on board. Very nice family and hopefully the new collector appreciates this one and cares for it like they did.
Absolutely amazing to see such a rare piece of history not only in that condition but with the original owners. And for you people knocking it down your just jealous so shut the F up. It was sad to see it be sold and not keep it in the family for many more years to come but definitely understand why they did it. Thank you very much for sharing. That's definitely a dream car of mine! :-)
Wouldn't say a lot more they didn't perform better than the 425hp 427 from Chevy or Mopars hemi. Had they not stuffed a mild cam in them with a small carb they could have been far more impressive. In net hp they make less than 350hp. So you are looking at maybe 300whp.
wow some owner had his classic put on a dyno rebuilt by who knows who and how do we know he gave it all it had. if i had a 1970 429 BOSS with double barrel heads worth ( just the engine) 30.000 and up ,why would i throw it on a dyno and run the shit out of it lol. i have seen stock ones in engine shops on dyno easily push 500hp all day, and thats STOCK. comparing 429 BOSS to a 350 GM is retarded , if the 429 is such joke why are people willing to pay 30 to 40 grand!!! damn they could have just bought a stock 350 or even 427. The 429 BOSS double barrel head engine is one of the best race engine built in the 1970s. the reason ford rated these and other engine below the 400hp range is because a lot of people may get kill with power like that and the ford suits needed deniability and the insurance issue of course. So all you GM fan boys need to do your research . ford built so many bad ass engine's i not going to list them all it would take to long, but the 429 is just one and it is awesome. maybe you should research the 429 performance in NSCAR ,basically the same engine in the mustang and others.
It was an investment from the get go! Just like buying precious metals or stock market,I have a couple investments in my barn not worth quite as much but I'm still building interest in them right now,1957 Chevy truck a 1954 Ford f100 and a 70 Camaro ss
Great example of where to use a microphone so that background noises can be turned way down. The owners can have some nice money from the sale and future generations can see this classic. But the sad part is that it will never be seen crusing the strip on Saturday night or be ripped on at the drag strip or just enjoyed for what it was built for.
Man who would want to sell that!?!?!? I couldnt imagine especially if I were the one that bought it off the lot..it wouldnt go anywhere but my kids the day I died!
The whole family was there including their now adult "children" . It was time, they are ready to move it along and everyone agreed. Great story though huh? Thanks for watching.
They got a lot of enjoyment out of it and were then rewarded again at auction with $325k. Nice investment all the way around. Things like this happen all of the time in a capitalist society, Bernie.
I know that auction noise was unfortunately unavoidable :( Thanks for watching Pete, if you send me your address I will mail you out a channel sticker.
It 's a real good & rare opportunity to see how the original factory paint jobs were done back in the day!! Honestly not that great when compared to the paint jobs as of today! Shows how far paint technology has come! Sure it did last a long time though! You really don't mind mailing it all the way to India!?! ;") Pete :")
Amazing. Right at the 04:29 mark I saw a subtle dimple on the body line about 14" above the R in good year and just about 6" to the right . Watch the video from 4:28 -4:31 and see the reflection for the Ceiling light get distorted . At the 03:28 mark you see the minor damage to the fender lip just above the side marker light . I wouldn't restore it because it's a piece of history where all the dings and worn chrome prove its age .
The reason the scoop looks different is the '69 Boss 429's were notorious for cooking the paint right off the scoops. Ford had so many warranty issues with the painted scoops they ended up going to the black (heat resistant) hood scoops in 1970 (an old Ford guy and now recently retired multi degreed Engineer who worked 32 years at America's largest defense contractor.
Awesome ride I have 5 Mustang's 3 69's coupe, ragtop & a Mach1 & a 72 & 73 Mach 1, I also have a set of original Goodyear Polyglass tires from that era, they look great but they are a hard riding tire with no traction on wet pavement. The 69 body style has always been my favorite & the 72 a second fave. It's hard to believe this car when new could be had for less than $6000.00, my real stupid mistake a few year's ago 1987. I passed up a deal for a 1968 Shelby GT 500 with an extra 428 for $17,000.00 Lime green 4 speed, posi you know how hind sight is 20 20.
wow super original shape 325g wow they were happy they keep it all those years a grad present 85 bucks per month payments back then was a lot but what a great investment it was awesome
Wow what a rare find...You can tell by the off color that the hood scoop has been repainted...the '69's were notorious for cooking the paint on the hood scoops due to the heat of the Boss 429 Engine...that's why Ford went to flat black hood scoops in '70.
@MC1...No problem, it helps to be old like me...haha...no it was definitely all the warranty issues Ford had with the painted fiberglass scoops in '69 being cooked that caused them to go to black n '70.
Derek Ortiz I used to think car enthusiasts were some of the best people. As time goes on I have begun to wonder if some of them are in fact the worst.
What a great car! Perhaps I'm wrong on this, but from what I've seen, the 429 isn't exactly what one would consider a daily driver. It's not the power, but overall drivability around town. The Chrysler Hemi back in the day had similar driving matters. Still, that doesn't make this beauty less of a car in any way! My father had a 428 Cobra Jet that looked just like this car with a slightly smaller hood scoop. Same color and all. I was just a little kid, but I still remember driving it off of the dealers lot back when it was brand new. Courtesy of gasoline rationing and horrible fuel mileage, he traded it for a '74 Opel Manta (A). Grr.
Yes you are correct, these were never good street cars and with just over 1300 made between 69-70 they were never made for mainstream consumption. They struggle at low RPM's. The 428 CJ is a way better street motor in stock configuration. Bet your Dad still wished he had that CJ car!
I know I wish he still had it back in the day. He died very young, so I basically inherited the Opel as my first car, but man, I could have had the Mustang if he didn't trade it. I can't hold that against him that! heh Believe it or not, the Opel was a really fun car back in the day. I only had it for a year or so and ended up ordering a brand new fully loaded '82 black Mustang GT. Thanks to t-top delays, it took over a year to show up, but I was in 7th Heaven when it arrived. Crazy me, I had the engine out after less than a month and made a little monster out of that 302 (looked like a 60s engine with A/C and no smog crap. I also redid the suspension and wheel/tire combo for SCCA racing in the F Prepared class. Man, what a great everyday college car. LOL Actually, it was very drivable.
I remember those Opels being cool looking. I bought an '83 GT used in '84 and drove it in college as well, too funny. No mods though as CA has some very strict smog laws. Had that car for about 4 years.
MustangConnection1 there wouldn't have been anything wrong with driving it a little more. it's fine to garage one, but at some point if you don't get it out and enjoy it, you just have something sitting in the garage. I've got an 03 terminator cobra with only 20,000 miles on it, but I still drive it quite frequently. I'd rather enjoy it myself than get a few extra grand in the end if I sell it. can't make memories with it sitting in a garage
And thats precisely why the unused one goes for much more. No one wants your hand me downs. They want the one someone didn't get to enjoy so they can. Not your sweat ridden seats, poor maintenance, and must odors. This was a great find. I bet he bought two of them. Ran one into the ground and babied this one. That's what I would have done.
Nice My favorite car of all a can’t think of one car in the world I would rather have more. But I’m not filthy rich but I’m not poor but still big money that I don’t have
They are outta reach now for all but the wealthiest now, very true but motivation to get there I suppose. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.
The 69, 70 Mustang & Torino were used for NASCAR's homologation rule I'm sure the race engine wasn't a dog and a Boss 9 engine head version is being manufactured today. www.jonkaaseracingengines.com/html/kaase_boss_nine_-_semi-hemisperical_big_block_ford_cylinder_head.html
Wow, cool, I have yet to see a ton of Boss 429's anywhere in the past 15 years that have not been restored or modified to some extent. In fact I can't even recall seeing a survivor Boss 9 like this at any of the various shows or auctions I attend.
At least it has miles on it. Nothing as maddening as a garage / trailer queen muscle car from the 60's & 70's with some ungodly low miles. Drive 'em, for Christ sake.
It's funny how some people rant about a car like this with 21,000 miles yet if it had been bought new and immediately been relegated to NHRA A/S Eliminator duty and showed 107 miles or so how that would be "cool."
Yes John, Most did drive the heck out of them so they are obviously rare to find in this condition and have the original owners story to go along with it!
Sorry to be a troll but that is not "candy apple red." Candy paint jobs are custom ($$$). No cars have ever rolled out of the factory with a candy paint job. Just sayin'. Nice car though!! An even nicer profit!!
Learn your shit if you are gonna talk it, that is Ford Candy Apple Red, look it up. It's a name only not really a candy color but that it what Ford called it in '69. In 1970 it became Medium Red, Just sayin'
Not upsetting me at all but no choice but to respond to the comment to set things straight. Please don't take offense to the response and I hope you watch and comment on more videos on here. We are really just trying to share the hobby.
yeah all them people out there Chevrolet guys especially comparing and some of the Mopar guys out there saying that the 429 was a love I can guarantee you this buddy it definitely wasn't a slug if that car had wings be flying the 427 the 428 and the 429 all three of those motors where great then we must leave out 289 hi- Pro which then evolved into the Almighty 5.0 everyone out there have a great night
Joseph Taverna Chevy man here...but a nice car is a nice car no matter what brand! Btw. All manufacturer understated horsepower. Look at ls6 Chevelle in 1970
Dale looks a little nervous. I think once he got the check, it's bye-bye Phyllis. She probably didn't talk to him for years after he bought this Boss 9.
Plenty of classic Mustangs out there, the Boss 429 was out of the "common" mans budget since it was introduced and has held a collector status since new. If you are talking about buying a used one back in the 70's then yes but these cars have been well out of reach for most for a very long time. Craigslist and Ebay are still chock full of affordable DIY projects for 69-70 fastbacks at somewhat reasonable prices.
I met both of their sons at the auction, they couldn't have been more thrilled for their parents. It is what it is and in this case yes it was time to sell.
No right or wrong just passing along what I saw and they held on to it longer than any Boss 429 owner out there. I am sure there might be a few but I have yet to hear about it. thanks for watching and commenting.Hope you are subbed and watch more.
It is not about the money or about the fame. It is about how much that man loved that car to keep it that clean after all those years. My deepest respect to him for keeping it so well.
Could not agree more!
Dam it sure is an awesome ride, had a 70 boss 302 always wanted an 429 boss as good as it gets nice !
@@timlink341 and than comes the dumb ass, with an urge to talk, God help us

To me that car is priceless. What a machine. I hope the buyer takes care of it.
I am sure it went to someone with the means to take very good care of it.
if i was rich i would go broke buying all the old muscle cars
Time to start saving up!
Or your name would be Jay Leno!
If I hit the lotto I would have a warehouse full of old muscle cars.
That's what I'm going to do once I make my millions lol.
This was truly a great investment, they got all the joy of owning the car and the sold it for a ridiculously high price! Awesome video and a great story.
Thanks for watching, great story and yes they did well with this one!
Yeah the joy of barely driving it, I hate people that don't drive their cars.
415 s30 you should have bought it so you could drive the shit out of it
415 s30 I recently went from using my supercharged Mach 1 as a daily driver to relegating it to weekend duty and occasionally taking it to work if the weather is really nice. It still has very low miles, and I want to stop racking them up. It makes it more special when you do drive it, and it will last longer.
415 s30 That's why people like you are referred to as "haters." They used it. Maybe even frequently. They just took rather short drives most likely.
King of The Mustangs
Yep
My dream car simply beautiful all original 😍
I love the vinyl smell, someone needs to make it into an air freshener! Beautiful car, it was definitely one of my favorites of the show. Very cool to hear the original owners talk about it. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Connor! I really enjoyed meeting them and speaking to not only them but their now grown kids too.
If I am not mistaken the reason ya see a difference in the hoodscoop color is the hood scoops were painted with lacquer at a different time at the car kraft plant .
Danny, that could be the case and makes sense as it was Boss '9 specific and installed at the mod shop.
danny stewart I work for Ford we only used enamel
Joe Fernandez ford did not paint the big scoop. Kara craft out of Brighton farmed it out. Why do ya think all 70 b9s were flat black regardless of car color .
I believe you are incorrect sir . Ask ed Mayer or bob Perkins or a number of experts .

What a waste. Only 21k. Cars were meant to be driven.
He would have been far better off to invest that money in the stock market.
How much did it cost when they bought it? I don’t know if you could do that well in the stock market.
Hey , junior flip, those are not magnesium valve covers!! Those there are aluminum valve covers..
Dennis have they had this years auction ?
hmmm nice investment.
for the original owners and new owners.
Very cool Rich, nice people and a super car
This was probably my favorite Boss '9 that I have ever covered that is for sure. Thanks for watching Terry, your shirt should get to you tomorrow.
That car will be worth more than a million in a few years.
Time will tell......
Beautiful!
Yep! Thanks for watching and keep an eye on your mailbox!
I hope they enjoy that money! Good for them... heck of an investment! They can get a new GT350R and start all over again.
Very true and yes good for them, at least the original owners made some money on a car like this for once!
Outstanding!
Glad you like it!
how could you have something like that and drive it 21000 miles......smh
So it would have been better to use it up like most of the rest? It is great to see this one survive in this condition. Good for them.
Cory Lee Shhhhhhhhhhh 121,000
Khalid
You just described a Muslim taxi
I seen it on tv man I thought it was worth more
I think they were happy but yes these never come along with this kind of story and documentation very often .
Where they 20?
Original gas ?
if i had that car i'd put it in my living room
It would make for a fine focal point in a living room.
Sold $325K - Hey It's just as good as hitting the lottery.
Nice My favorite car of all a can’t think of one car in the world I would rather have more. But I’m not filthy rich but I’m not poor but still big money that I don’t have
They are outta reach now for all but the wealthiest now, very true but motivation to get there I suppose. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.
beautiful
Yes thanks for stopping by!
I have a doubt, Which colour it is?...greetings..!!!
Ford called it Candy Apple Red in 1969.
what a great investment
It sure worked out nicely for them.
Starter solenoid has been changed.
He's right, I would have ripped the smogg stuff of to, even if it was a restoration
Great Folks and Great Car.
No doubt!
Got enough background noise?
It's called an auction, can't call of the auction for your listening pleasure.
Oh 325K? Oh alright.
If this guy says "original" one more time I'm going to explode!
Please Explode already
Amazing.
No doubt, thanks for stopping by, I know you gotta a chance to catch up with Matthew.
MustangConnection1 Yes. Nice guy.
I bet that they regret letting that car go now. Huge mistake!
Awesome Car!
Agreed, thanks for watching!
Why sell it... smh
The 69, 70 Mustang & Torino were used for NASCAR's homologation rule I'm sure the race engine wasn't a dog and a Boss 9 engine head version is being manufactured today. www.jonkaaseracingengines.com/html/kaase_boss_nine_-_semi-hemisperical_big_block_ford_cylinder_head.html
maybe one day i get one
I've seen a ton of original Boss 429s with over 75,000 miles that are in much better shape than this.
Yes and they kept it all this time, big bonus points for that!
It's funny how some people rant about a car like this with 21,000 miles yet if it had been bought new and immediately been relegated to NHRA A/S Eliminator duty and showed 107 miles or so how that would be "cool."
I just wished that drunk did not total my 1970!
Awesome!
Thanks for checking it out!
MustangConnection1 Thank you for let me check it out, for your video! ))
hahahahahaaaa I always wondered how these guys owned these cars all these years and did NOT drive!!! I couldn't keep my hands off, if I owned
MustangConnection1
I wasn't trying to talk trash. I apologize. Sorry to upset you. Hahaa. Thank you for educating me.
Not upsetting me at all but no choice but to respond to the comment to set things straight. Please don't take offense to the
response and I hope you watch and comment on more videos on here. We are really just trying to share the hobby.
Why would they sell it
Per their comments, retirement, and 50 years was long enough, time for other things.
RETIREMENT CAN BE EXPENSIVE!!!!!
Seems to have had it far too long to even think about moving on
love that body style looks pissed off lol
Get a directional mic...damn.
Loud mouthed auctioneer kind of F’ed up this otherwise nice car review
I know, sorry about that it was the only opportunity to interview them before I had to leave, would have been ideal without the auctioneer for sure.
im in tennessee
yeah all them people out there Chevrolet guys especially comparing and some of the Mopar guys out there saying that the 429 was a love I can guarantee you this buddy it definitely wasn't a slug if that car had wings be flying the 427 the 428 and the 429 all three of those motors where great then we must leave out 289 hi- Pro which then evolved into the Almighty 5.0 everyone out there have a great night
Joseph Taverna Chevy man here...but a nice car is a nice car no matter what brand! Btw. All manufacturer understated horsepower. Look at ls6 Chevelle in 1970
Great car but hard to believe the mileage is legit.
He didn't really have a commute and they lived in a small town so the car didn't really get driven very much or very far.
no smog pump
whoa!!!
That's cool. I've never seen the rear end of a 429 Mustang, only the headlights fading in my mirror.
Yep I am sure, what a clever comment.
MustangConnection1 Burn. Good one.
Wow.
Hey Matthew, you ready for next week buddy!
right on!
👍👍
Too bad today's cars will not be worth shit in the future
Wow!!
Right ?! Love this car and their story
that's right!
Dale looks a little nervous. I think once he got the check, it's bye-bye Phyllis. She probably didn't talk to him for years after he bought this Boss 9.
Haha , Pretty sure they are riding off in the sunset together.
It was SUPER loud in there. I don’t think Dale heard a damn word the interviewer said.
those look like sweet couple
The common man's past time taken away is what this is...
I wouldn’t sell that car for the world.
There is always a point in time when somethings are meant to move along
I guess that’s true but still, I would’ve passed it down or something. I guess if you didn’t have anybody to pass it down too, you could sell.
I met both of their sons at the auction, they couldn't have been more thrilled for their parents. It is what it is and in this case yes it was time to sell.
MustangConnection1 I guess you’re right
No right or wrong just passing along what I saw and they held on to it longer than any Boss 429 owner out there. I am sure there might be a few but I have yet to hear about it. thanks for watching and commenting.Hope you are subbed and watch more.
