      @@brandonfromlondonuk3484 You sound like a pleasant person to be around. /s The Maserati GT has always received high praise for its appearance, in fact people have looked back on the original late 2000s model and remarked that it has aged gracefully. Hence Maserati not troubling itself with a redesign until a few years ago. The GT is far from a bad pick for most beautiful modern car.

      By the way hypercars look the way they do because they're hyper specialized for speed. The reason hypercars have the stretched wedge shape is because it is very aerodynamic and maximizes down force, they sacrifice creature comforts and practicality. They often require lots of air intakes to cool their massive engine and brakes, the styling is often extreme because owners want to show off their ludicrously expensive car. Personally they fit my taste and I find the look matches the radical nature of the vehicles. OTOH I could see where someone would be coming from if they called it juvenile. There are hypercars with restrained styling like some models made by Porsche.

    • @coolguy_2997
      @coolguy_2997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I believe the EV variant will fail badly. It’s just not competitive for the asking price. Previously customers used to pay big money to get first of all a great engine and a sound from a supercar or luxury/GT brand and that experience. So 80% of the price in the minds of customers was justified by a particular engine. Without it, if new Chinese or Korean brands (or from elsewhere) come out with their new GT/performance EV coupes with good interior/exterior design, not many people will buy a EV Maserati because those brands will give better battery and infotainment tech for sure and will be at least half the price. For the money asked this Maserati should’ve had Plaid levels of performance if not more and 120kwh battery at least.

    For me, it looks like a mild facelift of the previous incarnation. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but I think they got it so right last time, they were afraid of a clean-sheet design for fear of mucking it up, and I think that is ultimately a failure of the design team. Other than that, the Folgore seems to offer something unique at this point in time; an EV that will hopefully rival the Bentley Continental GT. If the interior quality is there or thereabouts, and they can deliver orders quickly, I expect to start seeing a lot of these on London streets.
    However, I'm not so excited about the petrol versions. I think this new GranTurismo will likely pull the prices of the old ones up rather than push them further down, even though they are horrendously thirsty. The design is just too similar to the old one to make people think they've got to have the new one.
    As a Maserati aficionado I have been somewhat shocked that Maserati has taken so long to replace the previous long-running car, and then all they have come up with is what looks like a facelift. I'm interested to see how the market reacts. I have been similarly disappointed to see the emergence of models that quite frankly shouldn't be wearing the Trident. I think the MC20 is great, but it seems Covid means it will be a commercial failure. Maybe the MC20 Folgore will be a commercial success? It seems strange that the future of a brand with a history of special engines may be saved by being a performance EV leader.
