People have no idea how many different great engines Cosworth have been involved with. I also love they have them sat between a YB Redtop and that Bugatti lump .
Ngl, not a massive fan of the way it sounds. But I'm so happy it exists marvel of engineering
OMG it sounds just like those '50s BRMs. I love it.
Cosworth is going to go down in history as the greatest engine maker ever not only this Bugatti, but the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the amazing Gordon Murray T50 , Bravo guys , bravo 👏
Unpopular opinion: I prefer the sound of the W16
Another unpopular opinion: I prefer the sound of the 2.0l v4 of the Porsche 919 Hybrid...🔥
Why? Sounds like crap though
@@larryc1616 I don't know man, it just sounds more aggressive
True I also love the deep growl from the W16 on startup and at no rpm they sound great and like no other, and without deafening all nearby.
@@user-jq5tj7kq8w exactly bro
There is a good reason why straight 8s were discontinued decades ago. This is basically two straight 8s put together in a V configuration. Such a long crankshaft under that amount of RPMs is simply not going to hold up for long without bending and breaking.
maybe the building materials have improved over the years and now it can be done reliably (to an extent, at least)
@@elvis1745 Only time will tell. The rich folks buying these things will probably not care too much if it breaks.
@@Marketingfuzzi most of them will hardly be driven at all
The v configuration makes block and crank well- braced and strong. Straight 8 too long and narrow.
Yep that’s amazing! A flat plane big block 507 cid V16 turning 9,000 rpms!?! Truly insanity. Cosworth is a legionary engine engineering facility.
Hearing the overlapping tones blend in so perfectly with each other makes me ears quiver
Finally! I've been really excited to hear this new engine.
GMA, Valkyrie, this engine. I really hope more companies decide to work with Cosworth if they keep sounding so epic
It really sounds like a monster
You wouldn't believe the engineering magic going on inside from that 80s sign above the front door
I could listen to Bruce Wood all day, his voice and wealth of knowledge. Such an eloquent speaker
man is gold to me, just listen to him speak.... Bruce and co, in admiration of your work to date.
Awesome! I've always thought that V16's sound like extremely angry V8's.
The W16 was an awesome engine, but the feral scream of this new V16 made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up....
Absolutely nothing can beat the sound of a Pure V10 Engine....except this beast
first the 6.5L Valkyrie V12, then the 4L T.50 V12 & now this 8.3L V16
💪
Incredible car and Incredible engineering by Cosworth,i can't believe the Cosworth V16 weighs as much as a Lamborghini Aventador V12 engine.💯👌🏻💪🏻
What a great video for capturing the essence of what makes high performance internal combustion engines so very, very special. Well done Cosworth and well done Top Gear.
Sounds like a NASCAR V8 cup engine. Unrestricted they can spin up close to 10k rpm. In love already with this V16 🔥🔥🔥
That enginesound gives me instant goosebumps. Marvelous piece of engineering!
got an interview for an apprenticeship here in a couple days. would be an absolute dream to work on such amazing engineering masterpieces like this. wish me luck :)
I remember the intro to Forza Motorsport by Jeremy Clarkson talking about these performance cars to be a dying breed etc. Beautifull little film I must say. Really struck me back then. While in a way it is true, on supercar level we've seen the most bonkers cars ever produced since then. I'm so glad for it.
The sound almost reminds me of a racing boat with multiple V8s, which I guess makes sense. But it definitely does have an additional higher note since it's revving so high. Can't wait to hear what these sound like on the track.
V10 is my sweet spot but this is possibly going to dethroned that.
I wonder what a high performance V14 would sound like.
Cosworth has been kicking ass for the better part of 50 years
V10 will always be my favourite.
I’m curious if Konegsiggs’s light speed transmission can handle the torque?
Would be nice to see a collab, but there’s always a cost issue.
BRM just called, and they didn't say they want their engine sound back, they said the harmonic cadence we hear is an inevitable consequence of engine configuration and firing order, then of RPM, then lastly of the fluid dynamics of the paths the gases take, with some cursory respect to the unsung skill of the audio engineer recording this video.
"Not too keen on V12's" Ok, I'm out 🤣
Can't wait for the Inline 16 next
“So im gunna shutup and let you hear it” 😂 i love this guy
The Lexus LFA V10 however that VW V10 in the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracan just sounds amazing as well - also love the sound of a V8 especially with a Wipple Supercharger .. yes I’m very indecisive.
