  • @flyingcat2054
    @flyingcat2054 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks. Can you nip the rivet stem with pliers if it's a bit too high for the thickness of leather? Or is this type of rivet not suitable to nip off? I know you can nip copper and brass rivets.

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose you could give it a go but I think it would be difficult to get a clean finish - just best to get the right sized rivet I'd suggest.

    The double cap rivet I have clicks when you press on the cap. What happens when you hit it with a hammer? If the bit sticking up is longer than 3mm will it still lock? Or will the post just bend? You can probably tell I am new to this and don’t really understand how these rivets work. Thanks

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's good that it clicks - that means it's going to be secure. When you hit it with the hammer that will set it so that it doesn't come apart. If the post sticking up is longer, then it may show a little bit on the other side. Hope that helps.

    Is it possible to set a rivet tightly in just one (3mm) layer of leather? Like will the two rivet halves crush together enough?
    These are just for looks but need to set tightly. Great vid thanks 👏👏

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you should be able to do that - just try a small sized rivet because the larger they get the longer the 'stem'. Hope that helps.

    • @orbitaljellyfish808
      @orbitaljellyfish808 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leather Class yes, thanks again. For my use-case; reason for using rivets would be the low profile + large diameter caps. But large diameter is also long stems. Unless I’m missing something? Maybe Amazon isn’t the best place for supplies.

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@orbitaljellyfish808 In that case .....forget rivets. I would go for ' leather claw studs' instead...then you could have as large a diameter as you wanted.

    hiya does the same principle apply to embellishing a pvc fake leather jacket?

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's the same. But with pvc, you'll have to be delicate when setting the rivets - maybe make a smaller hole too.

    Can I use a 5mm setter for 4mm rivets? Or does the setter have to be exactly the same size as the rivets?

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it's best if you use a setter to match the rivet size for a nicer finish.
      If you use a larger setter than the rivets then the extra rim of the setter can make an impression on your leather.

    These rivets are OK on 8mm thick leather ?

    • @LeatherClass
      @LeatherClass  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you just need to make sure the rivet length is the right size OR your could thin the leather just in that spot to make the rivet work. Hope that makes sense! It's early here.🙂

    Hi, thanks for sharing the method and the difference of the end works. I am looking at buying the press machine and dies. Do you have experience buying the machine and die from one supplier and the rivet from different supplier? My concern is the dies may not be compatible with the rivet if they are from different suppliers.

    • @LeatherClass

      Hi, yes I bought a machine, dies and rivets from different suppliers.
      As long as you buy the correct sized rivets for the dies you have.... then everything will be fine.
