Glock trigger system chasing grit,grind, and drag

- In this educational video I explained how to singularly and comparatively diagnose components of the trigger system in order to find and eliminate grit, grind, and drag, AMENDMENT: I forgot to mention to inspect cruciform kick up/serr to firing pin lug face. That's usually feels like a hitch or click before the break. It will usually appear as a horizontal line cutting into the copper nickel plating of the firing pin lug face.
As a heavy truck tech the more experienced guys like to jump right to the worst case scenario a lot of times and they forget the basics leading up to worst case. Process of elimination is always your friend!
First of all, I want to say Thanks for what you are doing here, I know it means a lot to all of us out here in Glockland. I have always been an H&K guy but recently purchased my first Glock (Gen5 G34MOS) and since doing so, I have luckily found your awesome site. I have watched all your vids more than once and have learned the Glock handgun like no other. Safety First is the point that really turned me on to your work ethic and knowledge, not to mention the unique attention to detail that you stress in all you do. I work with many many Glock carriers and when they test my trigger, they all want me to do trigger jobs on their side arms. I never charge anyone for anything I do, I just love working on the Glock platform and I only do the basic frame cleanup, connector ledge face cleanup and complete polish work on all internals and all else, I send them to you. Thanks again brother and please keep up the awesome work you share will us all :-)
Just saw your video and it helped me fix a gritty/stiff trigger pull on my G19 Gen4. I measured 5 lbs 12 oz pull from the factory and have been living with that and a gritty trigger pull for the last few years. I decided to do a polish job and install a 4 lb trigger spring kit but the trigger pull was still gritty and only dropped to 5lbs 6 oz. A Google search pulled up your video and your tip about the connector pushing the trigger bar against the frame was my issue. I bent the connector back a bit and now the trigger pull is smooth and measure 4 lbs 3 oz. Thanks for the video!!

As usual, you knocked it out of the park. This is an extremely educational video that even one who is not very knowledgeable in Glocks can understand and follow easily while it also gives tips for experienced to use. Again, great video.
I swear you should have some affiliate links to Glock parts! With your help I was able to diagnose the problem with my trigger grind. Turns out it wasn’t the trigger, but the firing pin safety plunger spring! I purchased it asap.

Hey Johnny, have you ever considered polishing the channel liner after installing it, and or just polishing just everything that goes into the build. Just building several Polymer 80's, it just seems to make sense on all AWESOME Glock guns.

great video!!! Took me years to realize that most trigger issues, in my experience, were caused by drag in the slide/ striker cups/ channel liner. First place I look now if a gun starts to get draggy.

I wonder what you recommend for the type of grease/lube for the trigger bar-connector contact. I actually use loctite copper anti-seize like what Glock uses at the factory. I find it to be the most consistent over time. I've tried them all from White lithium grease to high pressure grease, to ask other kinds of grease red and green, to just plain oil and found that due to the pressure between the trigger bar and connector, galling is likely to happen since both metals are the same and are sliding under high pressure. This leads to gritty feel later on even if both surfaces were polished initially. So, in my own experience, I've found that the copper creates a barrier between the two same metals that is strong enough to handle the pressure, yet softer than the Glock metal. Just wondering what you think Johnny. Thanks bro.

Johnny, have you tried using Dry Graphite Lubricant where the disconnector and trigger bar engage?
I am experiencing slide drag. So when I rack the slide with the trigger pressed, the slide will remain back slightly until I release the trigger, only then it will come forward. I believe my shark fin is getting caught in the plunger. All my parts are mirror polished.

what about if the slide it doesnt go into a full battery once there its bullets in the mag? when it doesnt have the mag the slide goes into a full battery but still slide is like to hard even with out ammo
Thanks for your videos. I'm having a trigger issue. Gun goes into full battery each time, but if you rack it lightly trigger resets fine. If I shoot a round or rack it really heavy and let go trigger won't reset. Any ideas?
Quick question- at around 2:45 you talk about the connector being too far laterally “pinning” the trigger bar, what’s the fix? Is it as simple as bending it a little? What’s the best method to bend it? If I were to bend it too far; what would the result be?

Troubleshooting my second timney alpha trigger at the moment. The first one got sent back for defects. The second one has burs and more defects that keep the trigger from resetting smoothly. It's barely resetting at all. Timney has garbage qc.
Johnny Glocks - I have an issue I can't resolve. Can you help? My barrel is not going into the slide all the way when I try to test resetting the trigger. I can even show you via a call.

Quick question for you. Hopefully you can help me identify my issue. My slide is fully assembled with a channel liner in it. I have tested this with three different upper slide part kits including a OEM Glock one. No matter what I do the striker doesn't retract and the firing pin safety doesn't pop up. I have to manually push the striker towards the back plate to release the firing pin safety. Any ideas?
The right side of my vertical extension is scraping but I see no scratches or wear on adjacent surfaces. What might be the cause and could this be related to the slide’s hesitation to lock forward when sliding by hand?

Hello Sir, I just bought a second hand Glock 19 gen 3. When I pull the trigger back and push the gun forward and backwards, I am not hearing the tink of this firing pin or rattling noise. However multiple times I have cleaned the gun by myself and I am sure inside the slid is free of oil, however when I purchased, it was oiled and dirty.
Is it necessary to hear the tink sound for all the Glock pistol when we move the gun forwards and backwards?!
If it is necessary, then what is the problem of my Glock?
FYI, I didn't test and fired yet, but I checked by putting a pen inside the barrel and pull back the trigger, then the pen comes out. I mean it looks the gun functioning well!

I installed an apex trigger and it seems to be grinding against the slide stop lever. What should I do about that?
I really wish they made metal spring cups, channel liners and spacer sleeves. Think it would smooth out the trigger and get rid of the terrible plastic feel.
They make brass channel liners already a lot of people said it worked pretty good
@@mikeyeyes7 One company makes aluminum firing pin spacer sleeves for the 44... but they don't make them for any other model for some reason.
@@deucedeuce1572 I’ll rather have plastic cause I little burr or nick in metal or brass can cause problems & with plastic it will smooth itself out
@@mikeyeyes7 Wish I could see the sense in that, but I haven't been able to. A metal one would be far less likely to get a burr or nick in the metal in the first place... and I could always file/sand or polish away anything like that before installing it. Once installed, it would be nearly impossible for the part to get damaged.
Of course after finally writing this^^^, I remembered that you have to push down on the spacer sleeve with a punch to take the back plate off the slide (which does get nicked and damaged after several times). I guess if I got a metal spacer sleeve, I would also want to have one of the back plates that don't require you to have to push down on the spacer sleeve (or be careful not to damage it, but being metal it would be more durable). In the end though, I still think I'd much prefer metal/steel parts (if anything, just for the experiment). Sorry for the rant.

@johnnyglocks Hey Johnny, I have a question regarding my Gen3 G-34 trigger. In the firearm I have: Polished Angel 3.0 3.5lb Ghost Inc. connector, OEM polished trigger bar and shoe, OEM competition 6lb trigger spring, OEM polished firing pin, 6lb ghost inc firing pin spring and a polished zev tech safety plunger and spring. My trigger shoe safety spring was getting old so I bought polished and put in a new OEM trigger which made the trigger pull long and insanely light (different geometry at the point where it meets the connector). So I then decided change out the 6lb firing pin spring with a 4lb spring and load a 3rd clip the trigger won't break.. 6lb spring works. 4lb no click. Is it due to the complete lack of tension?.
That sounds pretty spot-on I do have a videoon how to fix that trigger safety tab spring so you can keep the same bar.you definitely should browse my content and find it if you still have the trigger bar w/shoe

When you guys are sanding or stoning theses Glock parts are you breaking through the nickel plating? I have used 1500 grit and it breaks through the plating then you see and edge of it. I imagine you guys are sanding this off and getting down to the metal. I have since been scared to mess with it that much so I use 2000 grit with oil and do light swipes then by hand flitz. This gets me shiny and clean but not anything as extreme as what I think I could be.
Only the Striker lug face has that copper nickel plating as for the trigger bars that's some type of galvanization over top of what I believe to be Moline Steel
Thank you. I finally went ahead and cleaned that striker up. That plating always broke through with use and created an edge. Now it’s perfectly smooth and clean. I did the sear as well and that took a lot of time. Maintaining the angle and swiping down only and not back and forth took a while. I didn’t see a vid on this but that method seemed logical. It was full of pits and machine marks and now is as smooth as my striker face.

What would cause a click just before reset, you don't notice it if your shooting or just checking reset with out ammo, but if you slow it down, I'm getting a false reset just before the actual reset, it sounds like the shoe saftey springing back in place but it's not that.
PS. I grew up running around in Venice, was born in Sarasota memorial. Wished I still lived in Florida, I'd love to come by your shop and pick your brain while picking up a trigger system from ya.
check that your trigger spring is seated correctly sometimes it pops out and wraps around the leg of the trigger bar

This is just a check on better trigger consistency rather then reliability correct? We all know glocks triggers out the box aren’t the best on the market.

Great video, but a little too advanced for me. You take things apart faster than I even knew they came apart. And then suddenly you introduce a tool. And you have spare parts hanging around. Do you have a better place to start for people about 14 levels of knowledge less than yours? I am trying to diagnose a problem on a G44 trigger, on the very first mm or two pulling it, that sound like grit/spring sound. And I have no such similar sound on my G19 or G26. Thanks for any advice.
True grit
If its not gridy and draggy, then its not a Glock. Put 3000 or more rounds thru it and it will smooth out. And you will be a better shooter.

Got a click in my trigger pull. New gun, bone stock G45 MOS, 60rds plus dry fire. Click is after the wall, before the break. Detail stripped, cleaned, no apparent burrs and checked all points mentioned in Johnny's video. Can you help diagnose?
