JOHNNY GLOCK YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Since my retirement I have taken on little projects that I didn't have the courage to do before. One of these was putting together my very own 9mm pistol. I have seen some call these "Guchi Glocks", whatever, I call mine a "Sammy Glock". However, I was highly disappointed with my creation for a while because I was getting several failure-to-feeds. That is until I saw this video!!! I have about 12 old mags from my working days with the Glock 19. As per your recommendation I changed three springs (as an experiment) to the 17 length, and "SHABANG". I could feel the difference right away. With the old mags I could feel my Sammy Glock kind of dragging rounds into the chamber. Now it feeds with a very positive slam, I feel no drag at all. I cannot thank you enough for sharing such valuable information.

You demonstrate a very thorough and professional process here. I know a lot of gun owners, and probably gunsmiths too, would have stopped after the slide release consistently caught the slide on an empty magazine. However, You have a set procedure for diagnosing and verifying the function of EVERYTHING related to magazines. You didn’t stop the moment you could say “there - it works!” In this case, you found a messed up mag spring that HAD to be replaced because you kept going. Also, it never would’ve occurred to me to check the mag release spring. Hats off to you sir!
Coming from 1911s, I know a lot about magazine problems. I had a Kimber compact 1911 that came with unusable mags. Even with new springs, followers, and baseplates, I still didn’t trust them 100%. There are so many variations of followers, but eventually you figure out what works. Every time. A long time ago I found one company - Tripp Research - that provides 100% magazines and mag parts for 1911.

Is there a specific brand of replacement springs you can recommend?
I have an early gen 2 17 I’ve been carrying since 1993 that I’ve shot thousands of rounds through the 2 mags that came with it. They still function flawlessly but numerous factory mags I’ve bought throughout the years since are not as strong as those original 2. You’ve inspired me to replace the springs and followers. Also, are the springs for my gen 3 32 mags the same as my gen 4 19?

The mags are what feeds the thing that keeps the evil spirits at bay....
Clean your mags after each range session and inspect your springs. They should extend a base pad width past the mag tube. If not replace. Glock mags are cheap for a reason.
