  • This shows you how I prepare the layout for an op session: the information that I send out to the crew before hand, how I stage the cars using JMRI Ops, and the tools that I have ready for the crew to use.

Great video. Having a map of the layout is a big help. What software did you use?

Thanks! I started out using Adobe Illustrator, which is nice because you can have different layers for the grid, benchwork, structures, track, text, etc. But I don't have access to that program anymore, so now I have been updating it just using MS Paint! Then I "print" it as a PDF and upload it to my site.

Did you build your own freight car storage drawers??? If so, do you have any plans you can share?

Yes, I did build them myself with a lot of help from a friend. Here is a video that I made about them, which should be helpful:

@@emillerz Thanks for the link! 1/2" plywood for the drawer sides it looks like? What did you use for the bottom of each drawer--1/2" plywood as well? Did you use a router for the drawer sides/bottom transition? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

@@troyramberg4871 You bet! Yes, 1/2" plywood for everything. I did not use a router, just made square cuts and screwed all the sides together.
