  • In this video, I show a neat way to do some very quick operating on the model railroad layout without messing up your normal switching routine! This involves simply respotting some cars on an industrial spur for a customer.

Hats off Eric.. got to give you a lot of credit to carry on multiple tasks without losing the moment.. two helpers, the camera, narration, the conductor..finally the engineer.. nice update. Thank you for sharing. Tom

Thanks! I enjoy seeing the interest from the kids, so I try to let them help when I can, but I am always ready to take over and finish the work if/when their attention span drops. And it's always tricky to play multiple roles and film, but still fun!

Great ops session and volunteer help comes and goes right 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤣 I like the fact that we have a variety of switching opportunities at any given day we want. Makes it fun an interesting. Thanks for sharing and Happy modeling. -Jason

Yep, I figure it's a bonus if the help comes through and if not, no big deal. I always enjoy being able to do some simple switching when I have a few minutes!

I appreciate you tried and were patient with your green hat engineer. Both my 6yo boy and 11yo girl can operate the protothrottle with Max momentum settings and a feathered brake. It’s really a thing of beauty. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! Definitely need a lot of patience. The ProtoThrottle definitely makes it easier for them and a lot of fun, too!

In the particular industry I work in, I know a little about unloading from each side a little at a time, although that experience pertains to a flatbed semi-trailer. I remember a day when one of our drivers picked up twenty crates of steel fence fittings from a nearby port, and for some reason the yard guy who unloaded his truck did only one side first. That trailer had some serious twist in it until everything came off!

Thanks for sharing your relevant experience! I always try to pick up on things when I watch the real crews work and see the warning signs for certain tasks...

Seems like we all have problems with our volunteers. Mine tends to use the emergency stop too often. Another nice video thanks Eric.

Thank you! Agree with the volunteers. They are really good when they stay focused on the job!

You are a lot braver than I lol. I remember cringing when I came home and noticed my toddlers (3 to 6) had been in the train room. #scary

They are pretty good at being careful around the trains and getting better at operating, when they are actually focused on it!

@@emillerz Good. I love to include my kids, but now that they're teenagers they've lost some interest. Keep up the good work; really enjoy your videos.

Great sounding locomotive. Who makes it?

Thanks! This is a bit of a Frankenstein - it's a Front Range Products shell and chassis with Kato parts for the trucks and drive. The DCC/Sound decoder is a SoundTraxx Tsunami2.
