  • Another ops video, this time featuring the RailCar America C415 running from South Omaha to the Swift Yard for a little interchange. They have a speedy delivery for the Transload, so they go ahead and deliver the car before taking back the cut of cars in the yard.

Sure do miss your ops sessions! Seems like a ton of channels from the last several years stopped having weekly content /: hope all is well!

Thanks - I am hoping to do an update video soon. I have changed some things with the layout and also got a bit burned out doing videos every week.

Nice ops session and variety of things to do. I sometimes offset my couplers when backing cars up to be spotted and seems to work for the most part. I might put some magnets for the couplers in some locations on my layout, but will see. Thanks for sharing and happy modeling!! -Jason

Thanks for the comment and that's cool to hear you use the same technique. I don't really like the magnets since they aren't very prototypical, I just like using the switch stick and manually controlling that.

Nice video, Eric. I enjoyed watching the C415. Do you have a video that shows your build of this loco? I have a PNW Resins model that I need to build.

Thanks! Here is a link to a blog that I created that shows the C415 build in a little more detail:

Hello Eric, I'm an N Scaler but stumbler on your channel when I saw your SPSF locos and cars, scenery, facia locks and switches. Wonderful detail. You really know how to do it right! I understand it is difficult when it's one man doing everything. My question is: when you have an official op session is it a team of two? Are they required to turn traffic signals back, put the turnouts and locks to their original setting immediately after the loco and cars pass those turnouts and traffic signals, or when the whole session is done?

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! Yes, I operate with a crew of two, one engineer and one conductor. I usually advise the crew to put things back to normal after they are done working an area, but they can certainly leave the switches unlocked for the entire session. The traffic signals are a little more urgent to set back for the cars.

OpsPro question - I have an industry (furniture mfg) with three spots, each with a specific use 1-receive empty box car and ships furniture, 2-receives lumber flat cars and ships empties and 3-receive tank car chemicals and ships empties. Does each of these spots have to be a separate spur or is there another way of doing this? Thanks for all the valuable info.

Sorry for the super late response, I have been taking a break from videos and plan to start up posting again soon. I will be working on a new layout soon. To answer your question, I had a similar industry and what I did (if I remember correctly) was assign a specific track for each type of commodity going in or out.
