- Today is the day we reveal our #busbuild paint job! It has taken a lot of work to get here but it was worth it. After prepping the #bus for paint we had to choose a color. There were a lot of delays due to weather and mistakes on our part. Watch as we paint our #skoolie on a budget. If you are reading this, thank you so much for watching our videos.

Welcome to our Big Family Expedition! We are a family of 8 that sold everything we owned in 2019 to travel full time with our kids. After being stationary for a while we have decided to do it again. Be sure to subscribe to follow along on our upcoming travels.

This is a real life journey of us building a custom rv to travel full time in 2024.

Let us know what you think of the color. We chose Bering Wave, and used an oil based enamel. Would you have done anything differently?
With that blue and yellow it reminds me of an Autobot. I can't remember the name of the character though. Now you should start telling your family to "Transform and roll out."
I used to watch that cartoon a lot as a kid. I'm old now so I can't remember which character it was either lol.

Thank you, we are still trying to decide on a name for the bus. We will add "The Blue Whale" to our list, that's a good one.
Great color choice. Really turned out nice. Maybe consider using the spray on bed liner under the fenders? I used it on a metal battery drawer and it held up nice.

It's an nice color! The only thing that should be changed is the visors. Because the front doesn't have any visors , there's visors on the rear. I don't think that looks right. But them lights can stay and be reused as Top Break lights and turn signals! It's a good bus 1st Gen ICCE's 2003/2004s are reliable buses!
Thank you! We haven't 100% decided what to do with those back lights yet so I left them up for now. This bus has low miles as well, I think we got a good one.

What about calling the bus Old Blue? I laughed pretty hard at you throwing the paint on the bus.
It was a lot quicker for me to just throw it on there 😂. We will add Old Blue to our list of names.

I like the color. Was hoping for a purple. What type of paint did you use? I'd use a cheap car paint for durability but maybe this will last a while.
Purple would have looked good too. We used an oil based enamel paint.
Looks great! I'm about to paint mine and in a debate on spraying or rolling...
@@Swerly01 Thanks! If you or someone you know has experience with a sprayer, I'm sure it's a great option. With me having no experience with a sprayer, rolling was the best option, and it turned out really nice.

Great to see it painted. Nice color as well. I liked the part where you were going to throw the paint at the bus, and like magic it was all done. 🪄 😀. For a name for the bus, why not simply 'Bluey'.
Thank you! The kids really thought that was a cool trick too! 😁 'Bluey' was the name that first came to my mind when we decided on the color. So it's definitely on the list! The kids like that name too.
