Gabe, I’m a student at DBO, so I know how much you dig watchin us grow as drummers, but it’s been pretty cool to see a difference in your drumming, too. The video itself was good, though. It’s definitely a lot of fun adding some metal to pop music. Got some laughs outta me with the boredom scenes, too. Nik, you shred. Props fellas.

I love the improvement that I have seen in my skills since joining DBO Academy last year. Halfway through the Control Challenge and I am seeing the fruit of the exercises already. The Chainsmokers version sounded like nu metal to me.
I have often marveled at how drums can take control of the song and make it whatever you want.
I’m in a Christian worship jam band, we hosted this tent revival in the flat grasslands of Adair Oklahoma last summer. We led 900 people in the humid 95 degrees for a 3 hour set. We got in this euphoric zone at the end where we were repetitively grooving to this well known charismatic Christian worship song. Idk exactly how it got to this point, but suddenly we were playing it in the most gritty war cry way when it usually is a melodic song. My singer starts shouting and screaming, “there is no one like you in the heavens or on the earth” guitar and bass are playing stanky rock riffs sounds, The place was roaring those lyrics, and then I initiated the biggest baddest most metal buildup I’ve ever thrown down and the place went NUTS. Greatest experience of my life musically. Some how after all that a great hush came over the tent, and we all literally couldn’t make a sound or move for 15 straight minutes. It was the greatest peace I’ve ever felt. I would give anything to do that again.

Reminds me of the Punk Goes Pop albums. This video and the one you did with rock drums over pop songs really shows how flat pop songs are but can really be brought to life
I actually enjoyed the all snare rendition. The fills added a cool little creative addition to it I liked. I might take the idea and run with it for a song one day…..when allowed to do so😂😂😂 you killed it man.

First time I’ve come across your channel and I dig it. One question, how many cymbals do you have on that rack behind you? I do miss my endorsements, I miss touring, I miss recording, I miss everything that has to do with being a drummer. I’m in my eighth year of diagnosed muscular dystrophy, I could play a groove for about five minutes but that’s about it.Keep on doing your thing brother and never take for granted the gift you’ve been given.
