Given that drivers over the past 5yrs have pretty much maxed out on distance, it would be good if you could redo the test, but measure dispersion instead....has forgiveness improved over this period?
I was thinking the same thing. Given that the center of my driver's face is virtually unmarked, I'll volunteer to do the testing for forgiveness.

After watching your vid, I found one in a pawn shop that sold for $100 (USD) which is an amazing price considering you can't touch one for under $200 on eBay. I took that driver to my round today & did REALLY well with it. I quickly realized that this is the type of driver that NEVER gets old. For some golfers adjustability in a driver is paramount. I use a Callaway Big Bertha 816 Alpha DBD driver and fairways. Their adjustability lets me dial them in and hit straight shots without any manipulation of my swing. The driver has 5 weight positions: toe high or low, heel high or low, & weight removed. There are also hosel adjustments. Callaway is the only hosel adjustable driver that doesn't require turning the shaft to change positions. I can control direction of the fairways by whether I put the heavier weight towards the face or back as well as changing the total of the 2 weights to change swingweight. The 5 wood tends to be too draw or fade oriented with the 3 and 10 gram weights. (I replaced the 16 with a 10). I am switching to 8 and 6 grams to minimize the draw and fade tendencies, but still have a slight adjustability in direction. No matter which weight is forward, both settings will be closer to straight shots. I am doing the same to the 3 wood. The fairway hosels are also both adjusted to be upright. That should be the last adjustment needed. I agree on the TaylorMade M1 - lots of adjustability.
So you're basically sayin who gives a shit about looks, sound, and feel because that doesn't hit the ball. That is the dumbest golf thing I've ever heard. Also, they all have the same fuckin performance, so guess what? it goes right back to looks, sound, and feel!!
Borrowed a TS3 with stiff shaft last weekend as having issues with my standard driver. Wow what a difference. I came of the range with a big smile on my face.
I’d say if your looking to change anything... think about the shaft as I did... I swapped out my fitted Graphite Design tour ad DI6 (played 2yrs Great Shaft) for the new HD6 and my distance went up with a much more consistent and straighter flight...BUT last week I DID upgrade from EpicGBB 280-290yds to the epic Max and dialed the head in with adjustable slider and bumped up average to 310-315total.... go get fit at a good shop with many choices.... it’s worth the money... if you’re a MID-LOW handicap it’s a easy choice... if you’re high handicapper invest in lessons... Pete great video as always....
I still use a Taylormade M1. Brilliant club. Straight and consistent. I'm never going to hit it as far as the pros and can't see much benefit in replacing it with a newer expensive model.
Have a speedzone in my bag, it's awesome 💪 edit: the lesson I got from this is stop wasting money on new drivers unless you want something new and shiny
I'm gaming F9 atm, 59 yrs old and still getting 240-250 yds of the tee. It's a shame he didnt do any Cobra drivers, $100 USD cheaper and the same distance and accuracy as those expensive ones.
@@TMar1961 i bought an F9 in perfect condition a year ago at play it again sports for $190 it was my first “new” driver and it has been amazing! I did my research and bought into the hype behind it. Definitely don’t plan on upgrading for a long time because i love the feel and distance

Riveted all the while watching this as I am looking for my first decent driver. Why not go for the best from a few years ago? Great job Peter! Exactly what I was looking for even though I didn't realize it.
Yussss my M1 stepping up ..I purchased this driver two years ago £150 .. still head wrapped up .. its sooo forgiving and as my swing has improved the distance is out there... I also rate the m3 hybrids and woods .. these clubs will be my clubs for many years
Great video Pete, such a good comparison between them all. I've got a bit of a soft spot for the M1 but no real reason why as never had one 😂 Do you ever compare 3 Woods or is it not something you really use or concentrate on?
Still crushing my 2017 GBB Epic Sub Zero and have no plans to switch it out until the materials in the face are worn or not performing as designed. LOVE IT
Great video and really interesting! Have you thought about doing a video to demonstrate the impact of the shafts themselves? Be interesting to see the impact multiple shafts have on the same driver head. Some of the recent reviews are almost suggesting the technology here has moved on more than in the driver heads themselves.
Great video! I was thinking about replacing my m1 driver thanks for saving me some money! I wish I could hit it 329 though. Would love to see you and Rick play some golf again.
I've been playing the GBB Epic 2017 since release. For me, it's forgiving and I'm the longest person I play with. Average 285 metres. 8 handicap. Tested other drivers every year, and don't feel the need to change.
Gaming a Rogue Sub Zero, love it, certainly an upgrade from my RBZ Stage 2. Unfortunately for the Rogue, my 3 wood (TEE e8 beta 15*) is an absolute beast and is typically 15 yards or less back of my Rogue and straighter, which keeps me out of trouble. Guys at the club question why I even bag a driver.....and a lot of times I don’t.......Especially on a short track. Good to know the Rogue is still comparable to the new stuff. Nice video. 👍
Kris Benson it's 'aluminium' because its the English language and my English auto correct makes it into Aluminium, just like it's not color its colour and it's not mom its mum.
I demoed the M1s at my home club a few years ago and loved them but the price was a little rich for me at the time. This year I got a near-mint M1 for a song and am I ever happy!
Pete i went to tsi3 from ts3 not through distance gains but purely on looks, sound and better consistency. This is as close to the perfect driver in my eyes you will get.
To be fair I don't think any type of club can offer the forgiveness needed from poorly struck shots hit by many amateurs. You see it on the golf course week in week out. Guys with the latest and greatest equipment unable to hit fairways consistently due to poor swing technique. In my view, amateurs will benefit most from managing expectations on the course and hitting shots accordingly. Most time this would mean hitting fewer drivers off the tee. Improving their skill level through practice would greatly benefit them and would certainly be a better investment for their money much more than the latest equipment could ever provide. Taking this to the extreme, check out Rick Shiels' video where a PRO golfer uses a 70pound package set and still scores under par. We cannot buy a golf game! Practice, hard work, discipline, dedication and course management will lower our scores, not the bullshit marketing thrown at us from these major brands every year. The idea of forgiveness is really a major marketing ploy used to benefit the pockets of these major brands. They are only incremental changes with unjustifiable price increases year on year. If you can swing a club well you will likely play good golf with even low forgiveness clubs. Distance is not everything, especially if one doesn't have the wedge game to match it!
@@azharcassim2795 Few years back i played with a guy who had clubs from the '80s. Titleist PT driver with steel shaft, Ping Blonde 5 wood which was literally wood, and irons that looked like it had a sweet spot the size of gnat's ass. He smoked rest of the group, easily scoring in the 70s. He let me try his 5 wood (beautiful club made with maple) and it felt so good. Obviously this guy was a really good golfer, but it had nothing to do with distance. I out drove him on most holes, but his wedges and putting put us to shame.
Still gaming the gbb epic at 8* as well but stiff shaft... need x fled now, but can confirm it’s a bit spinny. The sub zero is more for me but I didn’t know at the time
I’m not a very good golfer 27 handicap. I had a second hand Taylor made R9 I could hit about 220yard. Brought an Homna 474. No change in swing now hitting 270 yard best purchase ever!
I am currently using the TS3 and its the best driver i've ever had, I agree with you on the looks in comparison to the TSi3 , but only for the bottom part , I much more prefer the little arrow alignment on the crown vs the lettered alignment on the TSi3 .. Will be keeping in the bag for a long time for sure
I bought a 2017 M1 second hand and I love it, even when it’s not hit great ( I’m a high handicap) it still goes far. Ended up getting the 3 wood as well
I use a PING G410, I really like it. I don't like how a lot of companies are getting away from the adjustable clubs. I want my club to grow with me, if I need to move a weight to the draw bias early on, but then get better I don't want to have to buy a new club just because my swing got better. Which is why I went with the 410 Max and adjust to Draw rather than the SFT. I want to adjust the weight back to neutral if I get better.
This video really shows how much shaft is key in creating distance. Clubhead developments are aimed at dispersion and forgiveness. Shafts are the motor of the club and produce distance. Its the reason I still use my Ping i25 driver: the shaft is perfect for my swing and I still hit as far as I did when I got it.
I have tested drivers at demo days in the past on launch monitors. I also tested at my local golf shop with my driver while taking lessons and tweaking every option including my swing and every detail. I understand I’m not a tour level pro or scratch golfer and the variables I bring to the table are real life just like when we play golf. Wind, temp, ball manufacturer I’m using when playing compared to range balls at demo days and how my body feels that day plus hitting balls on a range compared to while playing is a lot different. All that being said I always stick with my M2 I purchased used about 3 years ago. $180 driver and I hang with most of the guys in my old golf league. Some younger guys hit it farther but that’s not really the metric I go by. I want consistency and predictably while hitting my diver. Are there days that I suck at hitting it? Yep! I have a Taylormade HL 3 wood as my backup when things are not working off the tee and that high launch helps me save my round. Plus it’s a great 3 wood off the deck and it was also used. I’m sold on used equipment.
I think that the technology has reached its peak when it come to drivers. All that is left is the design and looks. I base my driver on what appeals to my eye because they all perform about the same. Also price has alot to do with it. I think cobra has the best drivers at the moment even though you didn't have them on this review I feel they are the better pick when it come to price and performance. Thank you Peter for the great content. You are definitely one of my favorite to watch.
Very good reviews, I currently still bag my M1 but had a fitting on TSI3 and found my dispersion was much tighter. I'd love to see a review on the Sub 70 driver. Nice work, thanks for the info.
Got fitted for a TSi3 driver recently , nice big 75g extra stiff shaft 9 degrees loft...After using a 12-year old driver I can definitely notice the difference - I was hitting it dead straight and a long long way, felt amazing. Technology has come a long way since my last set of clubs, but I don't think you notice the difference as much over just 5 years. I sometimes wonder if practicing with an older driver that requires more proprioceptive and grip slip neurological feedback is advantageous towards using a newer more forgiving club as it improves your senses more, whereas if something is too easy to hit your senses full because they're not receiving enough stimulus to trigger a reaction @Peter Finch Golf
I’m currently gaming the Ping G425 LST. I really wish you would have added ping to the mix with this test. I think the original G400 was rather ground breaking as the first time in the 460 degree era, we had a stable forgiving smaller club head.
Great video Pete. I really enjoyed this comparison. Just replaced my TS3 with the TSi3. I think I made the right choice. The sound and feel are better, and the TSi3 is more adjustable.
I used a 905R from 2006 until last year when I bought a used M1. I didn't find much difference in performance but it was nice to be able to adjust the M1 to how I was swinging that day and be able to swap out shafts.
My newest driver is the titleist 910D3. Yes , don’t be shocked. Until lockdown Id been rocking the Nike machspeed SQ driver. A frying pan that made a huge noise but flew nowhere. I just can’t afford anything else. Looking to get to single digits this year. Just need to cut out a couple of blow up holes.
Great video Peter. I have the Callaway Rogue, and based on this video, won't be planning a change anytime soon, at least if distance is what I'm concerned about.
I’m currently rocking the SLDR. Time for a new one. Purchased second hand. I say SIM 2 for distance. Callaway Epic Speed for consistent fairway finder. I’m partial to Callaway as that’s what’s in the bag.
Great honest review. I’ve got the original sim sits really nice at address and it’s easy to hit right which is a huge bonus when you have a hook like me. But Would love to give that epic big Bertha a hit looks awesome
Great video Mr Finch, I'm not surprised by the results and I wouldn't be surprised if you did this same test 3 years from now and the M1 came out on top again. it was the driver that made all the other manufacturers return to the drawing board. At the time it was released nothing on the market could compete.

Data = Performance, end of discussion.
Looks, sound, feel..... shiny things don't send the ball down the fairway!
Performance is always king.
So you're basically sayin who gives a shit about looks, sound, and feel because that doesn't hit the ball. That is the dumbest golf thing I've ever heard. Also, they all have the same fuckin performance, so guess what? it goes right back to looks, sound, and feel!!
@@ryze9153 Nope. Performance and PRICE.

Borrowed a TS3 with stiff shaft last weekend as having issues with my standard driver. Wow what a difference. I came of the range with a big smile on my face.
I currently use the M1 Original, and that driver changed my game
Sadly, that one hurt my game!
2017 M1 Taylormade is Still a Beast.
Still awesome
Got my M1 on ebay 6 mos ago for ~$100US
Same. Used to change driver every 1~2 years until I got M1. Still a beast. I demo new drivers every year but still happy with M1.
I am hoping , just purchased the 2017 M1 going to go head to head with a Rogue and F8+ see what stays in the bag ?
Got one in my bag still. Even after 4 years, it treats me well.
I had the 2016 M1 as my first driver that I bought second-hand in 2018, loved it, only changed to the M6 in 2020 as the M1 was scratched and dented otherwise would have never changed it, the M6 will be in the bag for the foreseeable future.
I would've loved to have seen PING thrown in the mix! maybe another video?
Totally agree
Great vid Pete! Would love to see you so some 10 year differences. Like Ping G10 vs. G410. Maybe with Cobra, Callaway, and TM too? Thanks!!
I've got a bit of a soft spot for the M1 but no real reason why as never had one 😂
Do you ever compare 3 Woods or is it not something you really use or concentrate on?
Amazing. Its my 40th. And need new driver and woods. Was gonna look on golf bidder for older ones. Now i know . Amazing timing thx
On behalf of the TH-cam viewer community. We’d like to formally complain the original 2016 M2 wasn’t used 💔
Well I got 4 seconds in before seeing this comment and already know I’ve wasted my time
Still have this in the bag 🔥
Still playing the 2016 M2. I don’t see anything knocking it out of the bag anytime soon.
I will take the complaint and circulate it through management
Just bought one in mint condition, can’t wait to use it!
Is there going to be a review of the new Mizuno STz and STx coming up, Pete?
Yep got one through, just need to test it out
I'm still rocking the m1. I love it and have no plans to part with it. chipped paint and all.
Mine is still in almost mint condition. I never want to part ways with it but I’m gonna monitor the prices after Peters vid👀😂
Cobra rad speed now
Currently using Cleveland Launcher HB, it's the best fairway finder I've found.
Skip to 8:15 if you want to see the start of the hitting and comparison.
Thanks, there was a lot of drivel that first minute or two!
I've been playing the GBB Epic 2017 since release. For me, it's forgiving and I'm the longest person I play with. Average 285 metres. 8 handicap. Tested other drivers every year, and don't feel the need to change.
Just got a Cobra speedzone haven't had it out in the course yet
Gaming a Rogue Sub Zero, love it, certainly an upgrade from my RBZ Stage 2. Unfortunately for the Rogue, my 3 wood (TEE e8 beta 15*) is an absolute beast and is typically 15 yards or less back of my Rogue and straighter, which keeps me out of trouble. Guys at the club question why I even bag a driver.....and a lot of times I don’t.......Especially on a short track. Good to know the Rogue is still comparable to the new stuff. Nice video. 👍
I think the RBZ stage 2 Driver is the Best Driver I ever Owned ,Face Cracked When went to Smash it ! Have an Cobra F8+ Which is just About there!

Whoa he said, “aluminum!” In two different accents!
I pronounce it Aluminium, coz there's an i next to the u and m.
Peter, my guess: M1 longer than Sim2, GBB Epic Speed longer than Epic, TS3 and TSI3 equally long
Please have a look at next weeks lottery numbers for me 😍
Pete i went to tsi3 from ts3 not through distance gains but purely on looks, sound and better consistency. This is as close to the perfect driver in my eyes you will get.
Forgiveness might show bigger differences. Would have to do the test with someone who doesn’t bomb every shot like Pete does.
The sub zero is more for me but I didn’t know at the time
"best drivers of the past 10 years", oldest driver... 5 years
The title is clickbait but the content is essentially the beginning of the New tech in drivers to the latest new tech to see how far its come
Exactly I was hoping to see titleist 910, tm rbz and cally xhot. Give us what we really want to see Finch!
I would really have wanted to know how a 2010 driver had stacked up, as that's the price bracket I shop in.
I have a titleist 905R. I was hoping to see if it was worthwhile upgrading... to the 909 or 910👍🏻
Exactly, I think these are the best drivers of the past ten years
so can u tell me who produces the driver head and shaft and who puts the club together. what is the the real cost production price
When Pete says that the driver that I just bought and thought I was the coolest person ever. When he calls it dated 😔😔🥺🥺
Ended up getting the 3 wood as well
Titleist 905R. Tried the TSi3 when I could and was expecting more of a difference in performance. Still going to be upgrading though! 😂
Awesome video! Just upgraded from the M1 2017 to the TSi4. Low spin BEASTS!
I just bought the GBB Epic this winter to replace my current driver. After this video, I'm really glad I didn't spend more on a newer one!
Thanks Peter.
I'm in the process of upgrading from an R5xl to and M6. I'm really looking forward to seeing the gains.
Very good reviews, I currently still bag my M1 but had a fitting on TSI3 and found my dispersion was much tighter. I'd love to see a review on the Sub 70 driver. Nice work, thanks for the info.
Awesome video! Yes!! I'll keep my M1, i love it & the loud sound is just so satisfying.
I think the original G400 was rather ground breaking as the first time in the 460 degree era, we had a stable forgiving smaller club head.
im still playing the g25, I still love the consistency of it!
Sim2>m1
Cbb tsi3
Thank you for the Saturday morning (in Canada) video Peter! Appreciate all your hard work to bring the content!
Great video Pete. I really enjoyed this comparison. Just replaced my TS3 with the TSi3. I think I made the right choice. The sound and feel are better, and the TSi3 is more adjustable.
I'm currently using a Titleist 905R but may upgrade once we're back playing. Taylormade M1 will come out on top
I used a 905R from 2006 until last year when I bought a used M1. I didn't find much difference in performance but it was nice to be able to adjust the M1 to how I was swinging that day and be able to swap out shafts.
Great video as per Pete 👏🏼 Can't wait to get back playing
My newest driver is the titleist 910D3. Yes , don’t be shocked. Until lockdown Id been rocking the Nike machspeed SQ driver. A frying pan that made a huge noise but flew nowhere. I just can’t afford anything else. Looking to get to single digits this year. Just need to cut out a couple of blow up holes.
What Happened to the 2016 M2? I would like to see your review on that club. Thanks.
Great video Peter. I have the Callaway Rogue, and based on this video, won't be planning a change anytime soon, at least if distance is what I'm concerned about.
Currently rocking a PING G2, a driver that this year.... can legally vote😆 as for distance, my gues will be the M1.
This is why I used Golfbidder for my TS3 knew my specs and basically saved a load of cash! Also got money for my old driver too class set up.
Currently playing Titleist TS1 driver - brilliant club. 20 yards longer for me than anything else I tested including the newer clubs.
I’ve got the Ping G410 SFT in the bag and it’s never coming out. Not the longest driver but it is non-sliceable! Takes the right out of every drive!
I have the same, but am gonna try the G425
Great video Mr Finch, I'm not surprised by the results and I wouldn't be surprised if you did this same test 3 years from now and the M1 came out on top again. it was the driver that made all the other manufacturers return to the drawing board. At the time it was released nothing on the market could compete.
Love his line: "But if you're looking for performance..." Pretty funny.
