You didn’t mention the most iconic driver ever which is the Taylormade burner. This is the driver that ended the Persimmon era. In 1983, the Burner and Tour Burner were introduced and the company boasted 147 tour pros as product ambassadors. By 1986, the Burner became the No. 1 driver. I wish I still had mine with the 3 and 5 fairway woods,

Dang, my first driver was the ‘88 Burner 8.5* w/titanium silver shaft-stiffy like. $180 in ‘88
      Still have, as well as 3wood & a 13.5* Burner Spoon, & 5wood at 21*
      They still work!

@@MartinG-vq8ji we’re re talking about a 40 years old driver. I’m pretty sure that at least 60% of the today golfers are not able to shoot decent shots with it. My dad bought his last golf bag in the late 50’s, 70 years ago. just try to imagine how they looked like. I have never been able to use them. Although he was making pars and birdies. 99% of today golfers would be absolutely incapable to shoot one decent shot with my dads clubs. Woods in real wood and irons 1 and 2. Nowadays they don’t even sell clubs below 5.

The other thing that ended the persimmon era was the two-piece ball. They were so rock-hard that they would literally tear up persimmon clubfaces.

I own the 2016 M2 - which I have given to my son to use - so I can take it back whenever I need to. The first Driver I ever hit that could beat it was the Epic Max LS - so yes the original Epic also deserves the Legendary spot. I thought for the historical significance, you would have included the original Callaway Big Bertha Warbird - that driver change the world.

I think every driver I have owned has been a legend imo.
    1) Original Great Big Bertha-game changer at the time.
    2) Titleist 975D-Tiger's driver in the 99-01 range when he was destroying everyone.
    3) Taylormade R7 quad- first driver I can remember with movable weights.
    4) Cleveland Hibore XL tour- A hidden gem. Very high launch low spin for the time.
    5) SLDR- everyone had one of these at some point.
    6) Taylormade SIM- all the things the hibore and sldr were but more ballspeed and forgiveness.

I purchased a C4 demo from the course I used to work at for half-price. I put a Pro-Force 75 shaft in it, and it was, and still is to this day, the best fairway finder driver I’ve ever owned.
Problem is that i tried the out a new Titleist 905 driver a few years later, and even on my worst swings, it was still 20 yds longer, and it was bye bye C4.

I'm a loyal Titleist golfer, I started with the DCI irons & afterward fell in love with golf and Titleist. Now I have the AP1 718's, which I love, but still keep the DCI Approach Wedge in the bag cuz it's the best approach wedge I've ever used. So I was wondering if you've tried the 980 or 985 15 degree fairway wood? I was thinking about buying one to try out since my game seems to get along very well with the older Titleist clubs. I wasn't around when they came out, so I'm not sure what the reviews were back then and if you'd recommend them at all

The g410 in the states is still going for $250-$300 in good shape so I wouldn't say it's selling cheap. But if you want something newer and don't want to spend g425 money I wouldn't overlook it. I agree. I love my G410 and I see quite a few players who, like me, play the 425 3wood but won’t upgrade the 410 driver as they get on so well with it. I think Simon’s view of the 410 is coloured by the fact it replaced his beloved G400. - fair enough!

@@neilfarmer6609 I think he rated it poorly as it hadn't improved greatly in preformace compared to G400 however they have alot more fitting options with the weights & lie which makes it a better driver in my opinion. I gun the G410 after having the G400 and trying the g425. I might have a look at the g430 when it comes out in November (in Australia).

Pretty cool to see my own driver (M2) make the top 3. It definitely performs when I manage to hit it properly. I have tried a number of drivers with thoughts of replacing it, some of which have really tempted me, but ultimately the M2 goes just as well as any of the newer ones I've tried.

M2 2016 is absolute game changer I switched from SLDR to M2 with OEM shaft flex S both . M2 carry 15 -20 yards over SLDR and the spin rate are similar . I would put M2 2016 in god tier alongside with Callaway GBB (green one) . I've tried Stealth on demo day at the range with Srixon Z star xv Stealth only 1 yard longer same launch angle and ball speed. I have to admit that Stealth feeling very soft , solid , springy off the face which is very satisfying. But I don't see myself wasting a dime getting Stealth as the performance are similar. I m curious what M2 2017 performance like compare to M2 2016 ?

Only have a few issues with your list. The Ping G400 (LST version for me) should go in the Legend slot and the Sldr should drop all the way down to Rubbish. Not only were the feel and sound of the Sldr terrible, everyone I know that played one, including myself had theirs fall apart. I’m not sure how far back you wanted to go, but the Big Bertha Warbird should also go in the Legend space as well.

I know you’re not necessarily going with newer drivers but it’s been out for two years or pretty close depending on what country you live in but the 425 max is highly regarded by professional that work for other manufactures for a reason. The amount of efficiency that that driver produces especially with launch it works so well with many categories of golfer. You got a high speed guy that doesn’t need to worry about distance then it’s a confidence inspiring fairway finder… You got a low speed player that struggles with launch and that’s their power leak it can be a bomber …. You have somebody that’s in the middle of the swing speed category it’s both. I’m a big believer in a club that you stand over with confidence is the one you’re going to hit best and that thing can I have you feeling as confident as you possibly can on the tee. I know it’s a little early to call it one of the greatest drivers of all time but I’ve played for 10 years and I’ve had multiple people hit it and 95% of them would trade their driver on the spot for it.

I would suggest including the Taylormade SIM/SIM2 to this list, since it also moved the needle with drivers for longest distance.
