  • Sometimes it is easy to go back to the familiar choices and remain in an easy comfort zone where little planning is required. However heading to the unknown has many advantages and these are all things that can relate to hill walking in the mountains too. In this video me and Gerry meet after I spend an overnight in the familiar surrounding of Glen Coe but we decide to go up mountains that haven't been visited by us in decades..... Please note this was filmed at start of November, conditions on these high mountains will be different now. As I always add in the below disclaimer, some of the videos can take months to get round to editing due to erm life!!lol Hope you enjoy the video :)

Great pictures and footage. Very atmospheric. I have great memories of leading military groups over those tops. Caught up with a pal in Kinlochleven the other week between the storms. No chance of doing a hill though, weather was foul. Gala pie, was my late mums favourite snack. Yummy. love the video Murray, chance to escape to the hills through you.

Great video as always, Murray. It's not always Brocken spectres, auroras and crunching through snow under a perfect blue sky! This is more like the weather I usually get in Scotland. I once experienced the worst rain ever on path round to Binnein Beag.

Views are not always the most important. A good hike with a nice companion is all we need. And so good to see someone using a real map and compass! I was teaching my wee daughters the other day. Father Christmas brought a compass to the eight year old one and she uses it proudly around her neck hanging to her chest, even in school :) Now she is learning "in the field". Keep on!

Thanks for that. I did the same route when Eilde Beag was a Munro. Can remember having toothache on the trip which hit me every time I hit all four summits. As for pork pie and Scotch eggs. I thought I would follow your example and took them on a recent climb. All my hill walking I always carried moist sandwiches or rolls. I found the pie and scotch egg to be to dry with a dry mouth on the summit. However my dogs appreciated them. I did however enjoy them on my car journey back home. Another great trip Murray always enjoy your videos.

Glorious video againMurray! Like Gerry I used to park up at Mamore Lodge and do countless walks in the area back in the 1980s and 90s. They were my first full winter Munros, and then in 2020 my daughter and I had a great day on the fantastic via ferrata at Kinlochleven. I love Glencoe, but the Mamores aren't far behind on my all time list.
Now you got me searching through my old transparencies from the glory days. Repeating mountains is great, they are rarely the same twice in my experience :)
I knew the reveal would be a Gala Pie! I annoy my kids by dissing their phones for navigation and insisting on battling with a map in high winds :)

Brilliant video Murray. Enjoyed it as usual. Love watching.
My next video is going to be a reflection video :D something to add for now being that I still cant go up hills. Had another flair up in the achilis.
I've done these hills twice, loved them so much, once was as the circuit you did it and then I attempted 10 of them in a day which took 12 hours. Big day, started from Kinlochleven. Brilliant day out but it was so hot and on the saddle I was so short of water I had to borrow other people's, kindly they lent me some otherwise I'd have to bail. They were only doing the saddle that day, so it was kind of them. It was probbly 30 c maybe more.
I have always wanted to pitch along that ridge to have that stunning view which I remember so well that you spoke of which was sadly non existant 😂.
I wanted to pitch along that grassy ridge. So good for pitching hehe.
    Thanks again brilliant video 🎉🎉

Lost the path on the way up these and had to cut over bog and lumpy horrible terrain and up a steep side of the mountain to eventually reach the path and ever since then I’ve had knee pain going downhill! This was 2 years ago. I have a love hate relationship with them 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Any maps that I used regularly I would waterproof with sticky backed plastic. Added benefit was that you could bivvy underneath them. Can't do that with a phone🤣

Hi Murray, great video! Had a question, is that the snow situation in the highlands now? We are going to Ben Nevis and cairngorms area end of month to middle of March and wanted to do some backcountry skiing along with some hiking. But maybe not worth bringing the skis? Thanks.

I’d still sooner have a scotch egg AND a pork pie, rather than a slice of gala 😅

Murry, Another great video having done that very same walk some years back in Summer brought back many great memories. Grear craic with you and Jerry....I would stick with a nice pork pie and side dish of Scotch egg.....
What about a black pudding with haggis Scotch Egg....😊
Gala pie was a Christmas 'treat' when I was a kid.....I'm 72 now and still try to avoid them.....😂

Another excellent "steaming boots" adventure although the weather looked like it stayed cool. How you getting on with the Salewa boots, i have the same and so far so good, nice compromise between a winter boot and one stiff enough for a good crampon. Keep up the good work - onwards and upwards.

Have to say its thanks to you we have climbed some new ones.👀😃, but too busy repeating many of them to consider bagging every different munro.🤣🤣🤣🤣.
