I have had this brake setup for 4 years. It’s really good. The only problem I have now because I’m more serious with my track days, is the selection of brake pads you can get for them. There’s not something good enough for really hard abuse
I have heard you can’t get a great selection of pads, I’ve never really experimented with different pads, my local motor parts place tend to carry Ferodo pads as their ‘better’ option, not sure how good they are compared to others but they seem to be good form my experience. Never taken a car or my own on a track mind 🤷🏻♂️
Mark 3 Mondeo calipers are all the same (according to what I read) so you don't need specific ST220 ones (for anyone looking don't get "ST" taxed on a specific set) . Well I hope that's right anyway as th'ats what I bought. Still yet to fit them as couldn't get the piston out to rebuild it (great idea, thanks!)
This is probably a silly question as an upgraded rear brake would improve its ability to stave off brake fade but is there any real reason to upgrade the rears beyond just cleaning and hoses?
Ferodo Racing DS2500 pads on mine, works very well, though near zero bite from cold, though that's not really an issue in motorsport :) Standard disks and callipers Edit (one month later) well, works ok, more power now... ;)
hi, quick question. thanks for the nice vid. is the caliper carrier mounted by a M12 bolt? i cant seem to find the borlts that mount the caliper carrier.
I don’t think so but I’m not 100% sure, hopefully someone else will be able to tell us if they’re the same carrier. I would imagine not as the Mondeo caliper is physically a lot bigger 😔
Very nice, does the st220 brakes accept the same connection as the original brakes? I already have HEL braided lines. But would like to upgrade to the st220 ones
iirc st220 and standard mondeo have the same disc and caliper... ASBO upgrade would be the cure but not sure what disc to get then because asbo/mondeo is 5 lug
So I’d be right in saying if I’ve already got st170 carriers and the st150 calliper all I need to do is get knees st220 callipers and carriers and they’ll bolt straight up
@@MendItModItThanks for the video man! I'm doing up my 1.4 petrol and have nearly got all the parts needed for this upgrade. Would I need braided hoses for Fiesta 1.4 or the Mondeo ST220?
Hello mate what bolts did you use to attach the calipers to the hubs ive got mondeo bolts but they seem to go into the holes too far and catch the disk ???
Mine were just the Mondeo bolts that came with the calipers I think bud. I may have ordered new ones but I can’t remember now, if I did they were identical anyway. If they’re too long just shorten them I guess 👍🏻
@@MendItModIt yeah was what i was thinking mine didn’t come with bolts so ordered some but may need to shorten them , i havent got focus discs yes so i dont know if all of it on the hub together will make any difference
Any chance of getting the part numbers for the calipers? We didn’t have the Mondeo available in Oz between 2002-2007. Would calipers from a 2008-2010 Modeo be suitable?

Mate I love the work you do on your car mate I have got a mk6 fiesta zetec TDCI mate and I can say u really really help me on my car I have dome all the same from water pump to cam belt to new Automator lol thank you sow much for your videos mate big respect from James warman brother 👍
Look up how a hydraulic jack works, should be some good videos with animations that show how a small cylinder can apply pressure to a larger cylinder, lifting a much greater weight than what you’re applying to the jack to pump it
If you want to keep 17" o 16" it's OK, but if you want to go faster you fit 15". I went straight to a 4 pot caliper from AP Racing keeping the standard 278 rotors. The best upgrade you can do. I don't know if I have seen wrong, but 2013 rear tyres? Black flag!!
I can’t stand small wheels so I’ll be sticking with the 17s 😂 and I’m not planning to take it round a track or anything any time soon. I guess there’s a lot of aftermarket options out there, but for a cheap upgrade I’m proper impressed with the Mondeo brakes you know. Rear tyres have needed changing for a long time yes 😳😂
Hmmm, makes me wonder how available these parts are here in Australia 🤔
Class video mate, made me scream when I saw you drilling those holes bigger 🤣🤣 no going back. Looks like a tidy job though
Thanks mate, I know right, when I did that bit I was just like 😬😬😬😬😂

Nice cosworth inlet manifold on the shelf
🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫😂
Great job I have learned a lot and saved a fortune on my little St 150 thanks
Thank you my man, glad you’re enjoying the content 🙏🏻
Top job mate nice touch with the calculations 👏 I went with mondeo fronts and have just done the st170 rear conversion, keep up the good work 👍

Quality as always! Made it look really easy!
You know it wasn’t easy 😂😂
Top video again, bringing the stats as well. Definitely a big upgrade on the brakes!
The keyboard engineers will still tell me their setup is better 😂😂
When bleeding brakes what order do you do then cheers
Hi mate, what brake pads did u use ? Ty
Ferodo Racing DS2500 pads on mine, works very well, though near zero bite from cold, though that's not really an issue in motorsport :)

Yeah Mondeo carriers are M12
So I have st170 discs and pads atm does the mondeo caliper just fit onto the st170 carriers ? And work with the st170 discs and pads?

@@MendItModIt best to buy the kidney calliper and carrier
Mondeo not kidney
Loving the build. One question, the braided hoses you fitted? Was they for a st150,a st170 or a st220? Thanks
150 bud 👍🏻

Hi i am in the start to do this but one question i got 16" weels and is there space for the caliper and disk you think?
My wheels are 17” so I don’t know I’m sorry 😢
An oil can is good to remove caliper pistons, good old thumb plunger type
I’ll keep that one in mind, sounds messy though 😂
That's what she said 🤣

But there powered by the same master cylinder which was designed to work with the the original/st170 calipers
It doesn’t matter, basic hydraulic principles mean that for the same given pressure exerted over a greater surface area yields more force 👍🏻
Look up how a hydraulic jack works, should be some good videos with animations that show how a small cylinder can apply pressure to a larger cylinder, lifting a much greater weight than what you’re applying to the jack to pump it
Having different sized pistons front to back will throw the brake bias
Good video mate, I am running the same st170 disc and mondeo calliper! Can’t beat it
Exactly mate, I couldn’t believe the difference 😱
Is this the same with mk5?
Maybe the tires mess up with braking a little (2013-2022 Rip) :)
Great video mate, awesome job 👍
You planning on selling your old st calipers/carriers at all Mike? My 1.6 tdci mk6 Zetec s could do with an upgrade ☺️
Yeah I sure can, I just assumed they would be the same on a ZS for the fronts
@@MendItModIt yeah the zetec s has a 260mm rotor Vs 280mm on the ST and smaller calipers ☺️
Will this setup clear the 16" wheels??? ST170 will, but I never seen ST220 upgrade in person :D :D
I have 16” OZ superleggera and this brake set up. They’re well clear
I wouldn’t know but hopefully a few more people with 16’s will confirm, I guess it will depend on what wheels you have
Hi mate, will the standard hose fit into the mondeo caliper?
Yeah they will, my mate runs them with standard ST150 brake lines 👍🏻
@@MendItModIt brilliant, cheers pal
Just another quick one, do you reckon they will fit under the 16inch zetec s alloys?
How is the paint holding up after those months of usage?
I don’t know because I haven’t washed the car for months 😂😂

Ceramic?
Be cool to see this car at Ford Fair

mate what AP caliper did you go with and and where did you get the bracket?
The shame of it putting Mondeo man callipers on a performance car
I wanna do mods to my car but insurance is putting me off 😂
Check out Greenlight, I’m on a modified policy and mods which don’t affect bhp (as long as they are legal) don’t increase my premium 👍🏻
@@MendItModIt oh sick thanks 😊 d
Hey man do u use the st220 bolts which screw in to the hub ?
From memory they bolt into the carrier, but yes because they’re M12 rather than M10
