    In case you're wondering, this was filmed back in December 2020 and comes from a now-defunct channel. You can probably nab a Fiesta ST150 for £2,500, but you might struggle finding a Clio 182 for under £5,000!

    • @richardburns5925
      @richardburns5925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's because the Clio is so rare, when did anyone actually last see one on the road? Exactly. The ST150 is cheap because they are still plentyfull and the ST180 was so much better in every way, they do hold their money, a 13 plate with 50 or 60 thou on is still 8 grand, anything 6 thou or under is cat registered, every time. Surprisingly they all seem to be reasonable or low mileage. Try finding a 59 or 60 plate Golf TDI with less than 140 thou on, if you do, get ready for the price.

    • @richardburns5925
      @richardburns5925 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And a year on, still 8 grand for a 13 plate, now ten year old ST 👍

    Owned a 2005 model from new . Still have it and now garaged and used on dry days will never part with it . Been a mechanic for over 30 years and would never buy a french chlio no matter what the performance. This has taken us all over the world and back . To me that means everything as you wont see that from any clio . Love it its fun and you can tune to more than the chlio easily . Would buy one again in a hartbeat .

    I’ve owned both and I agree with you. I remember the ST150 as the best steering front drive car I’ve driven. It was more fun than the quicker Clio RS (172/182 in GB for obvious reasons).

    I went from a megane 225 to a fiesta XR4 (aussie version of st150) as my 'fun' car and I do have to agree with many of your points. Its a bit of a weird premise to a video that I haven't seen before but I agree with it. Also in comparison my current daily driver RSQ3 Performance, I still pick the XR4 everytime I get the chance because its just so much more fun although its much slower. My one which has ITB's, custom 4-2-1 manifold, Quaife diff, cams and some minor handling mods is one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. My close mates and I drive each others cars fairly often and its on par with their GC8 STI V5 and R32 GTST (yes my xr4 is slower than them even at 160 wkw). Its because they're the only 3 of the lot that have this weird unwarranted sense of speed. These things feel so violent and you feel genuine fear at times until you look at the speedo and realize you're only doing 120kph. I cant put my finger on it but the way I'd put it is, the xr4 at 100kph feels like you're going 200kph while my RSQ3 feels like you're going 100kph when its actually doing 200. The sense of drama in the xr4 is insane! Even when it was stock you can feel something similar but to a much smaller degree. Plus the N/A ITB setup takes it to a whole other level. Also to anyone thinking of doing a setup like mine on their st, either swap to a stronger gearbox (easiest swap is mtx75) or have a couple ib5s on hand at all times like me.

    I’ve literally just bought a ST150 after owning a Clio 182 and a 200.
    The Renault sport’s definitely are just that bit quicker , But overall a lot more expensive for like 20-30hp more as most of the 182’s don’t even dyno at the acclaimed horsepower anyways..
    Maintenance isn’t cheap on the Clio’s either Belts and dephasers setting you back near enough £700-£800 from a specialist , Ball joints made of chocolate, The 197/200 suffer from Gearbox synchro’s crunching had 2nd and 3rd done again costing in excess of £600… So far the ST 150 has been cheaper to insure, Cheaper to tax and a bit better on fuel.. Also looking through parts a lot cheaper to fix and the parts are far more common to find. Timing chain also over a belt! Again they do have some common issues but from what I’ve seen not as bad or as prone to happen compared to the Clio, I think every single owner of a clio has had to fix the above issues at some point.
    Overall the ST 150 is definitely the best bang for buck, And really putting £1000 into the engine bay some intake mods, Cams , Exhaust , Map etc.. Would be a very healthy contender for not much spent.

    Got 3 of those shitboxes. They're pretty good cars. Except for some point. Hear me out: weakness on the rodbearing shells if not maintained correctly from miles 0. Power steering liquid reservoir is directly connected to the pump it's overheating rapidly if you drive it like it was meant to be, ( the cap of the reservoir just flies off when the pressure is too high ). Handles on the seats to get on the back are just so fragile. And they are expensive if replacement is needed. ( I'm glad I removed the backseats on one of mine and added a rollcage ).
    And there is no oil level lights on the dashboard when it don't have enough oil in it. (Major Issue)

    I am sorry but I think the Clio was a lot more characterful hatch. I remember test driving these when new and it didn't excite me whatsoever. It was also more expensive in Mexico than the Clio Sport. My Clio had automatic everything, really awesome headlights and the chassis was way more planted than the Fiesta. Maintenance wise is just the cambelt and using quality oil. There really not that hard to upkeep.

    What's the fuel economy? That year looked better than the newer one. Wish we could get them in the US but Americans are pigeons and like roll over death machines (SUVs). Depending upon its curb weight 148hp is not really that bad. If it is only 2200 lbs, as it appears to be, 148hp should move it pretty well.

A 182 will keep with a 2013 fiesta st turbo. A 150 doesn't stand a chance. It was a poor attempt at the time. I own a 2015 fiesta st3 and can tell you handling wise there isn't much init with the 182 having owned one as well.
