  • In this video I go over the 5 reasons I think you should start 3D printing in 2022, as well as some very real caveats to those reasons. Because at the same time, 3D printing is not for everyone. Hopefully this video sheds some light on both sides of 3D printing and convinces some people to take up the hobby for themselves!

    I just got my Ender 3 V2 a month ago. I didn't buy it from mcDonalds but so far I'm lovin' it! I use it for custom electronics enclosures and stuff around the house, some gifts etc. I love the ability to design something that starts off only existing in pixels on a screen and then magically holding it in your hands a while later. There was a steep learning curve though, ranging from the properties of tournament squash balls to altering and compiling Marlin, setting up octoprint, bl touch BTT filament sensor and all that! Now I'm working on the silence of the fans... Its a pretty deep, but very interesting rabbit hole!

      Yea that's my favorite part too, making ideas come to life! Yea sounds like you have gotten pretty deep in the rabbit hole! For some users the journey of upgrading and modifying the printer is half the fun, but I think there's a big opportunity for a lower-cost entry level 3D printer that doesn't need so much involvement and just works well out of the box!

      @@DesktopInventions yes, tinkering is absolutely my thing. I found out quickly that an Ender3 v2 isn't ideal out of the box, no regrets though!

    My biggest cost savings through a repair so far was a vacuum. The bearing block for the brush melted. A replacement brush unit (refurbished, not new) was $55. After 3 hours of design work and < $1 of filament (carbon fiber polycarbonate, so it's even higher temperature capable than the original ABS), the vacuum works as good as new.
    I find I use the printer to solve annoying household issues more often than repairs though - a small set of shelves for my medicine cabinet, plugs and strainers for drains, organizing trays, etc. I may not save huge amounts of money with these, but I can get *precisely* what I need, which is perfect for living in a small apartment.

      Thanks for sharing Martin! That’s a nice success story on the bearing block! I agree, doesn’t always save money but opens up options to customize things exactly the way you want!

    Ohh man, after seeing this I wanted to start 3D printing, but wait, I'm in that hobby since years and have a room full of printers, filament, tools, more filament, screws, and even more filament, glue and other useful stuff, and wait, mooore filament. :D But I started as explained here. The wish to make stuff additiv instead of removing from wood or so. Then I got a Prusa I3 "brother" from BQ. After a while a second printer, the Witbox, also from BQ. Both are history by now, but I got 3 Craftbots printers and as new addition I ordered a Creality CR-10-S5. So finally I'll be able to print larger things like...uhmm furniture and houses ;) As said in this fantastic video: This is the best time to start the 3D printing hobby.
    Good video!!

      Thanks for sharing SenJos! You have many years of experience! I’m interested to see how you like the CR-10, I would like to get one of those one day.

      @@DesktopInventions I'll tell you how it is with this printer. As I found out, this isn't a printer to start with. To level this huge bed will be funny I guess. 😂 But, as said, I'l tell you the experiences I maid.

      @@DesktopInventions So, here I'm back with some news about my CR-10. If you like to do bed levelling, then this is your printer 😅. As I thought, this is no printer for beginners. It takes me about 10 to 30 minutes to level the bed EACH time I use it. I have to look for a auto bed levelling set to install. But after it is done, the printer works fine. I bought a direct extruder set, but have to install it. Then I build a cart for this printer as no desk was big enough I have. So it took me a while to build it. Next will be the direct extruder and then the auto bed levelling system. And to tell you, this printer is loud compared to my 3 Crafbot printers. 😂 To be honest, I wouldn't buy one again. I love to print and not to upgrade and level beds hahahaha. If you have guestions, I'm here.

    • @DesktopInventions
      @DesktopInventions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing SenJos! The bed leveling sounds like a pain! Is the bed pretty durable at least? I imagine changing one should not be cheap or easy! Have you printed some ultra long prints taking advantage of the rolling bed?

    • @senjos4805
      @senjos4805 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DesktopInventions The CR-10 S5 has no rolling bed. The Cr-10 haves a 500 x 500 mm glass bed and can print 500 mm in Z. I work in a glass manufacture and can have as many glass beds as I like.
