Thanks for this amazing video. My wife took our 2011 ford explorer to the dealership with this problem. I had already seen your video and thought I could fix it but with all of the trim pieces to deal with I'd let the dealer handle it. They told her it would be $500 labor, $35 parts plus tax. We stopped that part of the repairs and I decided to tackle it on my own. At 60 years old getting under the dash was not something I looked forward to but money saved is money saved. With all of the information you give in the video I had all of my tools (7mm, 8mm ... ) ready at the start. It literally took me longer to get the parts than it did to replace the actuator. I brought the part from the car to the ford dealer for an exact match. yes I replaced the cabin air while I was at it.
I can't thank you enough for posting this video but I did donate a small amount to your channel. maybe it can buy you a few lunches. I know all of the you tube posters don't do it for the money but I certainly am glad you posted this one. The part cost was $40.00 and the filter was another $15.00.
    Thanks Again,
    Sincerely,
    Lacajun2004

Dude, you are my lifeline when it comes to fixing my 2011 Explorer! 1st it was the valve cover replacement for the oil leak into the air filter now this. Thank you so much! Some other youtuber also had a video on GPS module replacement. You are the best!💯

My Explorer has been doing this for a few months now and has been driving me crazy! Fed up with it I told myself I would take it to the dealer today but Thanks to this video I can take the actuator over and replace my cabin filter with the money you helped me save. Thank You.

Thanks for this tutorial! My 2011 started clicking last month after 110K+ miles. Replaced today using your video and part link. One addition: my Explorer, a Limited, also has an electrical connection to the glove box so before you "...give it a yank..." (around 4:15) make sure you don't have that same connection!

Excellent video ... Thanks ! Fixed the annoying noise, replaced the cabin air filter and saved $$. The only (minor) adds I would offer is to mention that the cabin air filter cover opens by pulling bottom tabs toward you, cabin filter air flow direction arrow points down, and that the Limited model has an light connection to be disconnect when pulling out the glove box frame. Again, excellent video and much appreciated!

Hey Makuloco! Don't feel bad about the down votes. Those are from dishonest dealerships and repair shops. The dealer wanted $300 to replace the cabin air filter on my 2011 Explorer. Clearly this should take a about half hour in labor to replace plus a $13 cabin filter. Basically, about $100 tops. So the $300 I was quoted is a ripoff. I'm going to replace this actuator (now that I'm experiencing the clicking noise) and the cabin filter myself. I'll cost me about $33 in parts. It sure beats the dealer's price. Many Thanks!

I have intermittent issues of cold air on one side and hot air on the other side. I have been able to clear it by exiting the "Dual Mode" and moving both sides to max, then min temperature several times. I did this while driving so the road vibration may have had a hand in making both sides work properly again.

Thank you for this video!!! The thumping in the dash, after my wife turns the 2009 Ford Taurus on. It thumps after the car starts. There are no thumps after the ignition is turned off. The AC works fine, the heater works fine. I think it's the actuator you mentioned in this video. What is the name of the actuator in this video please? Is it the "surge door motor," as you called it in the beginning? Does this sound like the blend door actuator or the air door actuator, the one you mentioned? Thank you so much!!!

  • @kenhilton8933

I have a 2015 explorer and have put several actuators in over the years. Mine is now clicking and it sounds like it is coming from the driver side of the dash. I does it when you open a door also which it never did when the blend door actuators went out. Even if the key is not in the ignition and you walk up to the car and open either the front or rear door the clicking happens, do you still think it is the same one that you changed on this video?

Ya know the 99-04 Grand Cherokee had a similar issue with the blend door doing the exact same clicking noise, but if memory serves me correctly the whole dash needed to be removed in order to solve that problem. At least Ford made it easy for even the DIY to handle if the car is out of the factory warrenty.

Is same amount of disassembly required for normal replacement of the cabin air filter?

For that you can simply remove dampener cable drop the glove box down and then access the cabin air filter door.

That's good to hear. I think your videos are very well done. As a DIYer I look at a lot of them and yours are some of the best I've seen.

Please make a video on how to remove the cup holder on the 2015 ford explorer thank you

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว

You just pull off the large side trim panels on the sides of the console no screws and then lift up on the cup holder trim area all one piece.

this happens in my 2011 ford v6 mustang. I have been wondering what the sound meant. the evaporator in my air conditioning system was replaced by the ford dealership under warranty, and shortly after like less than two months this started happening. so I thought that exact part was failing. is there some cause and effect here, they didnt do something right and this part failed on me? it is still under warranty and taking it back to them next week, this knocking has been going on for about 6 months now. been lazy to take it over to ford.

izel longoria Buy the part and do it yourself it is so easy on the mustang. Lower the glove box and its is right there 30 second job. If I was in the area I would come do it myself for free.
