It's so weird how every video has dislikes even when there's nothing wrong with the video. This video is perfect. What's wrong with people?
The video is great but if you don't know what you are doing, just so you know $390 for new glove box. I broke the tabs and glove box would not close after successfully replacing filter. That might be why there are dislikes.
That's easy, it isn't the video we dislike, it is FORD making it RIDICULOUSLY difficult to do something that should be incredibly easy. IDIOT engineering.

Tremendously helpful video, thanks. I'd never have figured this out on my own.
It is a bit hard to see on your video, but your old filter has the printing right side up, and the air flow arrow pointing down, which correctly shows the direction of the air flow. My OEM filter, which came with the vehicle, has the printing the right way up, but the arrow points up (which is incorrect(!)) as the air flow on my vehicle also flows down. What a weird error for the manufacturer to make.
The only point I'd clarify, is when removing the glove box ('17 Platinum), after the pins have been extracted, there are two flexible catches above the inside of the glove box, Reach into the glove box and gently press up on those catches. It will allow the glove box door to tip farther open, and it will come off the hinge more easily.
Now, the biggest challenge is to get the stiff tabs on the filter cover to release....

Congrats to Ford engineers for making this job unbelievably difficult. The locking pin on the outside (right side facing forward) was ridiculously hard to get loose. I truly believe the idiots at Ford ought to be made to do all of these jobs to understand how to design...Thanks for the great video (no sarcasm); without it, I would have destroyed the glove box door. Thanks for helping us out here in do-it-yourself land!
I had no problem getting those pins out.... that's funny. anyway great video! thanks so much it saved me $40 getting the Mr Lube to do it when I got my oil changed

OMG - I agree with you 100%. Why make a consumable/replaceable item SO hard to get to. This SUCKS.
this is also applicable to 2015 model. however i recommend avoid trying to undo the right side locking hinge pin as there is a bar in the way blocking the lateral movement making it incredibly difficult. undoing the left side will give u more than enough space to switch out the filters. just be careful not to lean on the door as it will break.

Would it kill them to save a few seconds and leave the filter visible with the cover removed BEFORE Removing so the viewer can see the airflow direction indicator arrow to help orient the new filter?

Says our '97 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition had an in cabin filter. Ordered a new one and the filter cover is not under the passenger dash as suggested.
This video is for the Ford Explorer 2011 - 2017 cabin air filter change.
It does not have one.
We took our ford explorer to a garage last year to have the filter changed. I decided to do it myself this year. I discovered they broke the hinges by not removing the pins. I cut off the remaining loops of the hinge and now the glove box is loose. Now I have to make new loops. They should have watched this video first.
That is lame that the garage didn't inform you about breaking the hinges.

It would be good to check and see if your vehicle has a cabin air filter before buying the filter because it is rare for this vehicle to have a cabin air filter. The 1996 Ford Explorer did not come with a cabin filter. It would be good to contact your dealer to get further instructions to see how you can clean your clogged vents. We also do not have filters for this vehicle.

It is very unlikely that your vehicle can actually accept a cabin filter. Very few were equipped from the dealer with a filter access door. Verify that your vehicle can accept a filter before ordering.
The cabin filter can only be installed if Ford kit # F65Z-18D477AA has been installed by dealer.

You do not need the gloves. Wearing the gloves help with the cameras color balance. With out the gloves the hands would look like they are glowing.

Great Video - I *HATE* Ford for making this so hard to do. It could have been SO easy. I guess we don't want to compete with the Japanese car makers. Sliced my hand open good trying to do this BS job. No wonder it's $100+ to have my Ford dealer do it - they don't want to do it either. First part of my new Ford Explorer Platinum that I truly hated.

trying to find the location of my cabin air filter to change it 98 expedition. Help.
We do not yet have a D.I.Y. video for the installation of this filter. It is very unlikely that your vehicle can actually accept this filter. Very few were equipped from the dealer with a filter access door. The only data we have states if the vehicle is equipped with a cabin filter it is below the glove box on the passenger side of the car and you need to remove multiple plastic rivets to access the filter door.
I got those pins out with a flat head screwdriver. The best thing to do is to have a dwarf do it for you.

+KOUJI .K shut of air condition about 2 blocks from your stopping point but keep fan running, that will help alot. This dries out the system which helps minimize bacterial buildup. They are the source of the smell.

I did it on my 2008 mercury mountaineer premiere but it only lasts 2 days then it smells mildewy again

the description of "removing the pins" is unclear. The reinstall instructions are even worse.
When facing the closed glove box you will want to slide the pins towards one another to remove them. You may need to use some force to remove these pins. Pay attention to the orientation of the pins before removing them so you know how they should be reinstalled.
