    Agree with you my friend, the Fed has changed their way 180 degrees after making big mistakes in injecting too much liquidity into the system and keep the rate too low for too long. Now that inflation roared highest since 40 years, they have to do whatever it need to push inflation down defying any kind of recession.

    • @vanthangnguyen2566
      @vanthangnguyen2566 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@meklavier4664 but during Greenspan, the idea of QE was not invented yet. With QE, Fed can keep government bond yield too low so that government can issue its new bond to stimulate the problematic economy without push yield higher and higher.

      Yeah, and Putin took advantage of it, either let him take Ukraine and whatever else or risk inflation run-off and a freezing Europe.

      Just image if they inject that much cash. How many more will be jobless..

    • @jackskalski3699
      @jackskalski3699 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suggest watching Emil Kalinowski channel and Steven Van Metre. They explain the Paul Volcker myth and how QE isn't cash injection. It's not money printing but rather a reserve swap. This has two effects: it prevents bonds from being sold on the markets as they moved from banks balance sheet to the feds (but the bank didn't get cache but a new kind of asset that they can use as a reserve against deposits). It has the psychological effect, that people believe the fed can manipulate things, so it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. That last part is damn scary because it's not only the retail but hardcore trained financial professionals as well. Lastly even Raul Pal refers to the actions of the fed as "changing the optics".

    • @jackskalski3699
      @jackskalski3699 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't have inflation caused by money (which is what the true meaning of the word is) we're dealing with post COVID & war repercussions. The problem is we're trying to treat it like we would treat money inflation. The consumer isn't strong. I many ways our economies (sic! Plural) never returned to pre COVID levels. They're killing the consumer while the truth is that nothing that they do to rates can influence the true cause of these price instabilities.

    Thanks for the breakdown, Ken!
    Question--wouldn't there be a point at which the FED can no longer raise interest rates, due to the 30T debt the US owes? Unless I'm mistaken, the interest on the debt goes up with the increasing interest rates. A 1980s-style increase rate hike would be financial suicide. Just wanted to get your thoughts on this!

    • @harmhoeks5996
      @harmhoeks5996 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raising rates = not buying US govt debt
      Stable rates = buying US govt debt
      I think we are reasoning in circles?

    • @aSung_CCC
      @aSung_CCC ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harmhoeks5996 Changing interest rates and quantitative easing/tightening are two different tools the FED can deploy.
      My question was for changing interest rates vs current level of national debt, regardless of additional QE/QT.
      Higher interest rates = higher interest payments on debt. Means less money left over used to fund everything else. Possibly even increasing taxes to keep the country afloat.
      Imagine telling people "we need to raise taxes to pay our interest payments"--wont sit well with people

    • @jefflindley8355
      @jefflindley8355 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But as we have seen the 30 year doesn’t always go up with the Fed funds rate. They may be counting on a recession to kill inflation at which point they will have an excuse to cut rates again.

      commodity is pricing in for recession

    • @jasoncoates5361
      @jasoncoates5361 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some commodities might have peaked, but inflation hasn’t yet. Oil and gas are the main commodities to watch.
      Look at what happened after WW2. That’s essentially where we are. COVID killed demand like the war did. Vets returning home created huge demand like the reopening of borders and easing restrictions are. Things take time to catch up, the Fed will tighten hard. Eventually they’ll overshoot the mark and we may have deflation, but for the months ahead every spare penny that you and everyone else has is going to get squeezed until demand is dead ☠️ it doesn’t matter when inflation peaks, it only matters when it has dropped another 6% from where it currently is. That’s going to take a while due to the lag factor. 2 of the biggest economic factors is construction and travel, they both contribute considerably to oil demand and are often locked in up to 6 months ahead. It’ll take at least that long before things even look like cooling down

  • @mikev324

    • @free-qe6wx
      @free-qe6wx ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but, the more important question now is why are commodity prices falling. If its due to demand destruction that means the economy is about to or has already gone into recession. Stock markets do not "cheer" for recessions. The next thing to watch is the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate starting to go up signals the start of the bottoming process. Not the bottom. Only the start of the bottoming process. We have not seen that yet.
