- In this video, we take a look at the all-new 3/4 Scale digital / Virtual Pinball machine from toy shock also known as the 21C pinball machine available at Walmart for $399 is it worth it? How does it perform? Let’s find out.
With 12 licensed Gottlieb machines built-in and a 24-inch playfield display I was personally interested in checking this pinball machine out so I reached out to the company who makes it and they sent over a review unit.

Latency is a deal breaker for me...hope they fix it.

Yeah I don't know if the processor isn't up to snuff but this thing looks barely playable as is.
was just thinking the same, that's so bad. like that's one of the most important thing for a pinball game.
Heck even the iPad version of Williams Pinball is better than having to deal with latency issues..
They're offering free PCB swaps to one without latency and coming out with a new version of the cab using the new hardware.
Looks like customized Pinball Arcade software. Would explain the latency. Don't hold your breath for an update :P
I came across your channel by accident. Very interesting. I had no idea such a thing existed. BTW, the Centigrade 37 game you reference as part of the 12 games, I designed that game (I worked for both Gottlieb and Premier Technology). I also programmed "Bone Busters" and "Class of 1812", and worked on "Lights, Camera, Action". I also helped program Haunted House.
Class of 1812 is a lot of fun. Still appreciated all these years later. :)
good pinball games, too bad a company that refuses to honor the warranty or even respond to customer issues got the rights to put your tables on their POS machine. Been trying to contact them since september , no response

I grew up playing haunted house on Microsoft pinball on windows 98 😅loved it virtually, but never played the physical pinball...yet
The delay killed it for me..... you can’t have that in pinball
Thankfully, ToyShock announced that those who bought these tables are able to order a revised PCB that fixes the lag, some high score issues and ensures 60 fps gameplay

If ETA PRIME didn't complain about stuff like the latency then I wouldn't watch this channel. He's honest and never became an affiliate link seller.
I'm not sure if he's never posted an affiliate link but I wouldn't care if he did. He puts a lot of time into these videos and if he posted affiliate links I'd be fine with it.

That latency on bumpers is a game killer for me. Especially for pinball.
If you’re interested in playing the original Gottlieb Haunted House pinball machine and live in North Carolina, there is a playable one at the Asheville Pinball Museum.
And it’s only $15 for all you can play, I’m going again in February.
The retrocade in Ashville is pretty good too.
Galloping Ghost Pinball has it too.
I was kind of on the fence about picking one up, but thanks to your honest review I decided that my money would be better spent towards another real table.
It's a sweet device, but the latency kills it for me. Even watching the latency is frustrating. Pinball is all about timing, so there should be no latency.

I would love to just see everything you have. You seem to have so many things i haven't even seen in stores, like this.
So, this appears to be a port of "The Pinball Arcade" by Farsight Studios. Since they lost the Williams/Bally license, I'm assuming the Gottlieb tables are all they still have a license for.
They still do have Sterns though...
That's what it is - a tweaked version of The Pinball Arcade, but with the alphanumeric (and electromechanical in the case of Big Shot and Jacks Open) Gottlieb games

That's actually a really good idea. I've got a Fujitsu tablet computer with a screen that can be flipped and folded over the keyboard... it seems like it work work really well for Visual Pinball. (Is that still supported?)
I'm going to do the same with my cell phone and put my face REALLY close... ;) ;P

I've been considering making one of these and slapping a PC inside for Pinball FX, could probably use an old Dell/HP Office PC.
I'd love to follow ETA PRIME on a custom (or even pre-built) digital pinball build journey! I hope to have one in my home within the next five years. In the meantime, thank you for giving us a look at this off-the-shelf possibility!
Hope they come out with a Bally or Williams version. Also, hope they take care of the latency.
Arcade1Up is making the Bally tables as they have the license with Zen Pinball
LOL the ball seems like it’s floating on air. They should have licensed Pinball FX 3 engine which is awesome.
Or used Visual Pinball X which is free and open source, told people to download tables, and told Farsight to piss off.

Spot on review with the slow mo latency. Wish they had spent a little more on the CPU and got rid of the latency
The latency is a factor of the display not the CPU. It is possible that it can be fixed with an update to the display. It is the same as playing your Xbox on a TV that is set to movie mode rather than game mode. Even with it set up correctly it is still not as responsive as a real machine though.
So is it basically a 24 inch monitor turned 90*? If there's a normal digital interface it may be replaceable to help with that border.
You're awesome at doing tutorials. I really hope that you'll do a tutorial to setup the virtual pinpall "emulator". Not an easy task to set it up properly. :)

I am not sure I've ever heard of a digital pinball machine before (other than just normal video games) - one set up like an actual pinball machine is pretty awesome.
Now I want to dive into videos of people building their own using RPis or other SBC or PCs.
I found VP a few months back. I ended up putting a 60" tv in portrait next to my main tv just for VP. I even made a controller out of wood and arcade buttons the same width as a normal table. There is a huge community of people into this. The best IMO is VP on the HTC VIVE. So cool to play a 20 ft pinball table

Good morning ETA Prime. It looks like the machine is running the Pinball Arcade app. I have that on my 1st gen Pixel XL and have several games. I wonder if the interface can accept additional pins?

You should totally grab a cheap 1080p panel @32" or whatever will fit in that cabnet and do a bezel trim and a fresh plexy.
You also said more systems... would love to see that. Is there a company that has remade the classic digital space cadet cabnet we use to play on windows?
Looks like a great little machine, I would happily pick one up but the latency is really a deal-breaker.
Toy Shark is expensive toy virtual pinball, same here love to have virtual pinball some day.

This looks an awful lot like a reskin of The Pinball Arcade, right down to the instructions mode and achievements. They have all 12 games in their DLC library as well.
I believe they partnered up, as the FarSight Studios channel posted an ad for this machine.
These are sweet. I’d like to do a Pokemon Pinball build maybe. Kinda bored of tinkering with the Arcade1Ups and want to do something new.
So if they do fix the latency, is there a way to update this thing?
I want to fast forward to like generation 4 of these things and have it right now.

Wow, Black Hole, I haven’t seen that table since I was little. I played tons of pinball in the early nineties, but not Gottlieb. Gilligan’s Island and Addams Family were more my jam.
I would like to see more of the Haunted House Board.

Man even when you had it at normal speed, I could "feel" the latency through the vid. I could never get used to that and makes it an 100% deal breaker at this stage.
Honestly, I think the latency exists because of the lack of power in the CPU. It's unable to run the tables accurately enough to limit the latency.
I'm still interested though. I would probably replace the computer and eventually the field display. I could do the recroom masters cabinet, but this seems like a little less effort. I'll look into it more.

Argh! That latency really is a dealbreaker. Kinda like THE biggest deal with pinball. So disappointed! I was totally about to start saving for one of these. Thanks so much for reviewing it in such great detail! 👍

Is there a reason why you haven't done a tear down of the AtGames Legends Arcade yet like you said you were going to do? RetroRalph removed the heatsink in one of his videos, but he couldn't read the letters on the board for some reason. Really want to know the specs of that machine before buying.

Why does there seem like a lot of lag on gameplay. You mentioned the flippers but its choppy everywhere else. Or is my wifi connection slow..

Can it be modded? It looks like Farsight Studios maybe did the software/emulation? The font's, goals, etc, etc just seem like it.
honestly I'd be tempted to get one, gut out everything (i.e. change the screens so that they're two monitor style screens as well as the buttons), slap custom decals on there and get a custom PC with Future Pinball on.

This looks very much like Farsight Studio - Pinball Arcade I have on my computer. On the computer can't say I've noticed any latency though, with either the flippers, or the plunger controls.
The Nudge has a faster response than the actual flipper buttons. I wish you can add more games on here instead of modding the entire pinball machine. On a scale from 1-10 what is your rating on this game?
Nothing beats a physical pinball machine.
Can you pimp it ? Udoo Bolt ? Larger screen? Marque screen?

i build my 24" pinball out of used pc parts... 2 used monitors (40 Euros) a used core 2 quad pc for 20 Euros. Used PC 3in1 speaker system 5 Euros. a 120 GB ssd with windows and tables 20 Euros. Buttonset (8 Euros) + the wood and work... So you can build a better system like this for around 100 Euros if you make it DIY and use used parts. Also its fun to do so. good thing is the marque display changes when you use pinballx. and you can add tons of tables. Mine has around 400 now.
yep this is true... I built a standard 40" for under $1000...
Cool I own several real pinball machines one being black hole and the huge problem here is the balls move way slower than they should

Toyshock did announce that there will be different variants of this table but with different skins, and they will be releasing a new version which features many of gottlieb's games that use dot matrix displays
Should have done a blackhole theme imo. I hope they can get a Williams license, would love to see Black Knight 2000 and Bride of Pinball, both are in my opinion the peak of pinball design and pinball machines started majorly declining after.
I’d love one but maybe a bit smaller like a table top one slimmer and easier to put away that would make me easier for me to own as space is an issue

I know that a game Graphics Company is selling a custom bezel artwork that matches the motif of haunted house

I've been looking to build a VPin but even just for parts including computer and 4k playfield it's going to be around 2K . VPin is expensive. Buying a prebuilt is twice that.
Would a UDOO RYZEN Bolt V1000 have worked better with no latency.
I don’t think it’s too bad, considering the intended market. It wasn’t built for aficionados of real pinball machines, and wasn’t meant to compete with systems from companies like GRS, which are way more expensive. It’s a toy, and will be played by kids who have never played a real table. The price is a little high, but it will probably drop after Christmas.

Get sum of those plastic bed frame leg raisers to raise it. There like a big plastic block that's made for legs of beds to sit into to make taller, but would work great for this, comes in black plus can get em @ Walmart! Simple solution
