I appreciate your explanation on this subject. I like how you broke everything down but you didn't mention how much the $1.25 card cost you. I'm having a hard time figuring out how sellers are selling MTG x4 for $2 on eBay with free shipping and that even being a thing. That's time spent creating each auction, packaging an envelope, sleeve cost, stamp cost, eBay fee, the cost of the actual cards you sold, cost of gas to drive to shipping location and risk of the cards being damaged because of the minimal packaging. Even if you do this in bulk it still seems like breaking even
your right but some of these can be different depending on how you got the cards, and how far you drive, etc. basically its up to your situation on whether 1.25 is correct. what ever your cost is replace the 1.25 and it can give you a base line.

@7:53 "and not go over your 3 ounces" - Could you explain this? It sounds like you are saying that the initial .42c stamp will cover up to 3 ounces if the buyer is being sent up to 4 cards and you could save a stamp. Do you mean that up to 4 cards is an ounce or less? Because if you go over 1oz, you would need an additional postage.
Sorry for the confusion. 1 oz can be covered by one stamp. 4 cards in a top loader can be shipped for this. Stamp price will vary based on how you buy you stamps. Also other videos i cover the new ebay ship option of 53c to get tracking and when its best to use it also.
@@capnclyde Ok, that's what I thought! I've recently starting selling small items on Ebay and find your videos very helpful. I've been following the ESE for a few weeks and now faced with 'do I stick with 1st class pkg and sleep at night' or save some coin and go w/the ESE label which in my opinion sounds like it was rolled out too early.
Amazing video man! Super simple! All I wanted was the numbers. I got a bunch of MTG cards, and I dont mind spending my off time selling some cheap cards. I just bought a bunch of zendikar prelease boxes for $15 a piece, they sell for $20 on ebay. Would you open them and resell, or sell them as sealed boxes now, or would you hold them and wait for price increase? Just curious :D
i would say keep them sealed and put them in a closet for a few years. right now the card values are low and adds of getting your money back are low as well due to the set being in print. you could try to open but odds are low you will get you money back after shipping and sale fees. I would refer you to a few of my videos on draft boosters to see what you could get out of the packs, but i still say save them a few years probably 2-5 after they out of print then sale it sealed. sealed product is always a higher value. hope that helps
Yes you are correct. If, you use PayPal there are more fees. Ebay has went to a system where them send you the money and handle the money transfers for free which is what i use to cut this out . This is why i don't use paypal i use the Ebay feature. I don't use paypal cause it would make me lose money. Also the direct deposit feature, refund feature, and other options with ebay offers makes there service way better as a whole.
i have sent as many as 6 in a small 6 3/4 envelop. if you use a longer envelop you can ship 8-12 if you stack them in two piles. Price is always based on weight. and it only goes up like 5 -10 cent normally. if i have a large number of items i either weigh it at the post office of just use package shipping costing around 3-4 buck. for example if they buy 6 different item if i ship separately it would be 6x postage or which is like 3 buck. so i just use package shipping so i get tracking. since i would normally spend that much to ship separately.i also use package for shipping any thing over 20 bucks so i don't get a no delivery dispute for a refund loss.
i charge 3.99 free shipping on crap cards and my non machine stamps of 75 cents it works out well because other sellers charge 1. 25 a card plus 3 bucks shipping so see how i make the $$
So here's my questions currently as 6/19/2022 listing trading cards on eBay is currently @ 12.9% + .30 in fees. Now eBay also has this option I discovered called eBay standard envelope which according to their website saves up 70% in postage...the prices range from 1oz-3oz...but lets just say for argument sake I'm shipping a 3oz which is currently at about .93, so lets say also I'm listing a card at a fixed price instead of auction, which I read is 0.05. So If you're selling a $3.00 card plus .93 = $3.93...with fee deductions about .86 will come out to $3.07. I'm not factoring in Top Loaders, Envelopes, team bags/penny sleeves....and obviously not stamps since I'm using eBays standard envelop print out feature. So with all this being said, basically to simplify it...should I be using stamps or eBays shipping method....in other words just charge free shipping instead of the .93 standard envelope?
i use ebay for tracking on anything over 2 bucks so i can get money back if there is a dispute. 53 cents is cheaper than stamps unless you buy in bulk.
You are doing it wrong in my opinion. I make $1.46 off a $0.99 card. I start all of my auctions at $0.99 and Charge $1.25 for shipping and shipping is only $0.53. after all my ebay fees I make $1.46. I buy a combo pack of 100 top loaders and 100 penny sleeves for just under $20 so I make $0.83 minimum off a $0.99 card after all my fees and expenses. Oh, and I use card stock on the outside of my top loader and still come in short of 1 oz. it's like .7 oz.
i would ask do the auction always sell? and it looks like you are saying you auction a single card for around $2.00 for a .99 cent card? if buy it now is 1.25 i would wonder why people would pay or bid up so high when buy it now also gives faster turn around to get the item instead of waiting for the auction to end (and cheaper). If it works for you That is great and keep it up . I throw a few on auction to see what happens but last time i tried they sold at .99 cents causing me to lose money, but that is just me. Again if it work for you keep up the hustle friend your doing it right.
Ebay takes out the % of total sale including shipping and tax. Then subtracts that from the non taxed amount. Ebay is horrible in fees for Cards more than $20.
No you didn't, i don't talk about card cost as it will vary depending on how you acquire the item. For this best rule of thumb is to think about what you paid and then what the final net profit would be. When i do the box EV videos i talk about this to show what it would look like if you buy a box to sell singles. This is just a baseline for information on cost to sell.
i do make money about 2kish but i reinvest this in new cards plus extra money. so i spend more then i sell but it helps to support the hobby of playing magic it depends on what your trying to do accomplice. i keep a lot of the cards and sealed product as an investment.
Are you offering free shipping? Most places are 0.99 a card and then charge something like $2.99 shipping for the first card and to cover stuff like stamps, top loaders, etc.
yes i offer free shipping. reason why eBay charges fees for total sale shipping included. some sites might not but i think most do total sale value. so it is just a hassle to separate and,or cause you to lose profit if they buy multiplies.
The key to making money is upgrade to cards that are worth over $100. It takes the same amount of time to list a card for $5 as it does to list one for $100. So you'd have to list 20 cards at $5 each or 1 card for $100.
