I’ve gotten the 14 Pro as an upgrade from my 8,
And I feel because I hadn’t upgraded in a while, the general iPhone experience for me has been nothing less of amazing.
The battery life aswell has been incredible as most days it only goes down to 50-odd percent by the time I go to bed.
Not to mention the camera is such a huge step up from the 8, it isn’t funny.

I have the 14 pro and coming from the 12 pro max its a pretty decent upgrade as well as the smaller size for someone who wears a lot of shorts going to the gym and etc. Battery life wise ending the day with about 50-60% range getting me just a day and a quarter-ish with a full charge. Loving it!!!
The battery drainage issue is fairly significant. But I can understand why. Always on display eats up battery; brighter screen in sunlight eats up a LOT battery; faster RAM eats up battery; more megapixels for camera eats up battery. There are a lot of upgrades to the iPhone 14 Pro that increase battery usage quite significantly, but Apple only slightly increased the battery (roughly 200 mAh) over the iPhone 13 Pro. If the demand for battery usage is higher than the increase in battery size, then I don't think any amount of software adjusting is going to help much. They should have just put a bigger battery in the phone.
Turn off always on display and you’ll get more battery life

I have the 14 pro max and I'm at 12 hours and 54% battery. I find this is a decent amount better than my 12 pro max was. I use the always on display too since its a feature of the phone. The phone gets incredibly bright in the sun and I can easily see the screen. The dynamic island is kinda cool but yes kinda a gimmick for now. I personally like the island over the notch and I have purple for color which has been a great color for me.

I feel his complaint is due 5G. I would turn off 5G and leave 4G LTE for now unless you reallllly need the speed, which for most cases you don't.

I've had an iPhone 7 since November '16, and this is my first upgrade since that time. I'm quite trepid about having to use a phone without a fingerprint 'Home' button, but let's see :)
The always on display can be all black. The option is in the focus modes if you have silenced notifications on. It's under options then dim lock screen. I don't know why this option is hidden in the focus modes but it's there and solved my issues with the AOD.

As a user of the 14 Pro since launch I agree 110% with all these points, so many good new hardware features with barely any utility or efficiency with them. After all this time and the eSim removal, a bigger battery should’ve been compensated to let us have these new features without any less battery
You are the only reviewer who actually mentioned the storage. It happened to me as well & had to reset my 14pro. Any idea why this is happening? It’s like 1g/day is being used by iOS 16 with just normal use. Upgraded from X to 14pro btw.

This is a problem with iOS in general it seems. At one point my 64GB ios 15 XS was using 20GBs of system storage. iOS it seems is very bad at clearing temp files (you used to be able to clear it by trying to rent a large movie. It would fail because of storage space, but actually clear space) but they have supposedly patched that to stop it working. Tin foil hat wearing me says its part of Apples planned obsolescence to try and get people to buy bigger storage next time
I’m currently using iPhone 11 Pro & I really want 14 pro but the only bad part is that it doesn’t have the type c port, that’s why I’m thinking to wait for 15 series iPhones, but if I think about it I actually don’t mind having a lightning port on my phone I mean I don’t any problem to carry a extra cable with me and also I don’t transfer data between my phone and pc. So I’m thinking to get it but I’m not sure.
well, coming from my 6S+ (since 2015)... I probably wouldn't be much of a judge in this case. Just glad I made the jump to the 14Pro Max a week ago!

When it pertains to the much talked about dynamic island there is an android app called Dynamic spot that does way more than the dynamic island and has a lot of customisations. It works with most apps on android. Could you do a comparison between the dynamic island on iPhone vs the Dynamic spot on Android?
Many things have been fixed with iOS 16.1 Beta3 update. In addition to this, cameras output has been improved a lot!
To keep apps from reloading when going onto another app, do you keep 'background app refresh' turned on or turn it off?

My only issues with the 14 pro so far is the battery life. It seems to drain really fast but I’m sure that will get fixed soon. For now I have the mag safe battery pack that keeps my phone charged and makes it easier to hold

How much battery are you going down per day? I've been averaging 30-50% per day, that's with always on display btw
My wife has 13 pro max, the battery is great. I've bought 14 pro max (my first iphone) and experimented with energy efficiency and after I turned off haptic feedback - phone lasted for more than 50 hours (100% to 1%) with limiting background app refresh only to what I need as well as auto brightness. I think that everyday use if you do not need to travel - let haptic be on its a great feature, and for other long term battery - just switch it off.
Make sure to take advantage of that awesome camera !

@ZONEofTECH - as you said, storage usage after migration from a previous iPhone to the iPhone 14 Pro is a MAJOR problem. Like you, I hope that Apple address this ASAP in iOS 16.1 or earlier.
I had a 128 GB phone which was about 4/5 full, but when I migrated to the 256 GB iPhone 14 Pro all of a sudden there was 151GB of system data. I got it down to 7.13 GB by removing apps like Pages and Numbers, but it’s now gone right back up again to 151 GB which is ridiculous! Hopefully you can use the prominence of your channel to encourage Apple to fix this.

Hello I have the iPhone 14 pro. I noticed I don’t get any messages when screen is locked. Then I realized that if I turn Bluetooth off all my messages come through on Lock Screen. I tried all the focus don’t disturb that’s off and notifications are all on everywhere but nothing is working. How do I fix this major issue?

I have the 12 pro max, after updating to iOS 16 I had terrible battery life, but after a week or 2 it’s back to normal
I have the pro max and sometimes I get Frane lags, like I expected coming from an iPhone 11 with 0 frame lags that it would be much better, and it is but just certain times, maybe it’s new and maybe they need to adjust some things but still expected a bit better in that regard
I have had a number of issues with my pro max…1 time I woke to my display completely dark and I verified the phone was on! I turned off the phone luckily without seeing the off display slider! The display came back. 2 I turn on dark mode in my display settings and the phone keeps putting it back on light mode! Do I regret upgrading from my I phone 12? Absolutely!

Can any one tell me how much space is the iPhone system taking up? As we do upgrades its takes even more space and may not leave enough space for me. Raw files in photos take a lot of space.

I’ve been considering getting the 14 Pro (6.1 inch) coming from a 12 pro max. The only thing that worries me is the battery life. Most days on my pro max I end the day with about 45-50% battery. I’m not a heavy user, but I’m still worried. I’ve always had the bigger iPhone, I’ve been really interested in the smaller one this year. Any advice?
Just don't use the new features. Ah, wait a minute, I paid good money for those features! I guess maybe that's not a good solution. 😯

@@Djones96 I wouldn’t say I’m a heavy user. But I clock around 4 hours screen on time per day on average. That includes videos, browsing and music playback over the day. My biggest day last week was around 5 hours 30 minutes screen active and 56 minutes screen idle (not sure what this is) and I was down to 40% end of day.
For some reason, I don’t have a problem with the always on display because in the assessabilities shortcut, you can make it so it does reduce white point and you’re always on display comes with that in the brightness is like nowhere near anything

iPhone 14 pro max is my first iPhone ever. Charged it to 97% last night, woke up it was still at 97%. Just got the phone 20% battery notice at 10pm the next day after 8hr 35min of screen on time. Always on display on. Gotta say that’s mad impressive. Battery practically doesn’t move but it takes forever to charge compared to my Note 20 Ultra

to be fair. A LOT of people have had issues with batteries on launch for a lot of phones, Android and Apple included. They tend to fix things with updates. Because after launch, that's when more issues are found. Theres more of us, than testers at Apple.
I believed that it is a IOS 16 issue that is affecting the battery. I have a iPhone 12 Pro Max, and ever since I update the IOS. I noticed that my battery drains much more faster then in IOS 15.
My favorite up sale on the iphone 14 pro lineup is the camera pixel upgrade and the fantastic action mode . Damn I couldn’t help but to decide to sale my iphone 12 pro and upgrade 🔥
So if I am thinking of upgrading, should I upgrade to the 13 pro or the 14 pro?

I have been using my iPhone 14 Pro for about a week as well. My biggest issue which isn’t really a big issue. Is the size . I traded my iPhone X for my Pro. And it’s not much bigger than the regular X I had. I did get the 512 gb. Battery life is lasting me a long time in a day. I’m on this almost all day. Just scrolling through TikTok, and Instagram, TH-cam, Fb. I haven’t used the camera much yet. But I will use it. For my trip to Vietnam in January. For video and pictures. Overall I like the Space Black. I like my iPhone 14 Pro very much.

I upgraded from 12 Pro to 14 Pro solely for the pill cutout, promotion and the space black color. Loving it so far!

i have the 14 pro and the battery life is fine. i can get 5 hours of screen on time with 25% left. maybe its an ios bug? also my total storage size shrunk from 80gb to 75gb when i transferred from my 13 pro max

Switching off the haptic feedback would make quite a difference to the battery life.
Not unless you're typing all day. All I do is watch videos and listen to music, so I doubt it would make any impact on my battery. I would say turn off 5g, AOD, Background App Refresh, Location, and turn off Notifications for unused apps as well and you'd probably see a much bigger difference.
I have a iPhone X and just ordered the 14 pro max. I’m sure it will be a huge upgrade but I have to wait until October 14 for it to ship because of back order. I got the silver because I love the white and silver look but starting to regret not getting the black and probably upgrading the storage to at least 256

My main issue is the system cache filling up the phone storage , it clears down after a reboot. I have the 256gb pro max. It seems to happen after I go into photos and try to access the videos. The phone goes back down to 32gb used storage after reboot.
Got my iphone 14 pro max, and yes, it is super smooth the refresh rate Ive ever experienced so far and is cool in the eye. I think it is the best smartphone in 2022. Space black color too ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Went from the 11 Pro Max for 3 years until I got the IPhone 14 pro it’s a huge upgrade, I hated the curved edges, I hated the size of the pro max, massive upgrade even the 120hz I can definitely notice how smooth it is now
I like the black color of my phone, but a required case disguises it.

I think the battery life is affected by photos app indexing things in the background. And maybe after it finishes, battery life will be better.

The only problem I’ve found with the 14 pro is glitches with the AirPods connection symbol getting cut off by the dynamic island then you turn the phone horizontal. It has been fixed luckily.

Very interesting and informative video. I am mainly watching in anticipation of the iPhone 15 series, specifically the iPhone 15 Ultra or pro Max. I left Apple with the 11 pro Max for the s21 Ultra due to the Periscope zoom which for visually impaired person as well as one who is out in the open a lot simply blue apples offerings away. Now with rumors of a new periscope lens coming with the 15 Ultra I am brushing up on the features of the 14 series to be pretty much prepared for what the 15 will offer. Having said that most smartphones operate fairly similarly and if you can operate one you can operate another although Android does take a bit of getting used to if you're coming over from Apple. Your videos are always enjoyable to watch, you have a friend in Columbus Ohio!
I couldn't get that out of mine I have a 14 Pro and it was all blurry and severely grainy and so out of focus so I don't think this is really the phone for me when it comes to taking pictures
I think the battery issues could have something to do with ios 16, I got my Iphone 13 a month ago and I have noticed a bit worse battery performance and sudden drains. Some of my friends have reported similiar things since getting the new update :/, I hope the fix it
Ios 16 eats battery. When I downloaded it on my 13 pro max, it also got bad battery life. Gonna try to downgrade it to 15.7. I hope they do a software fix for the 14.
Daniel, You forgot about one bad thing I believe no one mentioned yet- there is still lens issue making flairing artifacts during night shots. It was best seen during night camera test on your video. That is pretty bad that Apple can't fix this problem since iphone 12
I bought the 256gb 14 pro and have not seen these battery issues at all. I also don’t use always on display or the haptic feedback while typing. My battery from a full charge almost lasts 30-35 hours unless i watch over 6 hours of videos, then it lasts about 20-24 hours.. I think this is fantastic for me! My system data takes 13gb and ios takes 9gb, so I guess this isn’t so bad either, overall usage is 140gb and most of it is comes from photos and videos that I take very often. I’m very happy with my phone! :)
edit: my brightness is almost always sett to around 30% or less because I don’t need it brighter than that, probably explains my good battery life.

I actually like the dynamic island. It reminds me that I am on a phone call or that the map is active.
Don’t know about others, but I am getting excellent Dynamic Range while shooting outdoors both from the wide angle and ultra wide lenses. No over sharpening either. So can’t really relate to that as being “bad”.

I think its a PR stunt to not upgrade dynamic island. It was intended purpose if a positive feedback would able them to update more in the future imo

Just letting you know the dynamic island works very well with door dash Uber drivers you can swap back and forth quickly
i’m just disappointed with the ultra wide cameras downgrade. I had the 13 pro last year and i thought it’s ultra wide was much sharper with less noise on the 13 pro by far. Also I agree, the battery is also considerably worse on my 14 pro than my 13 pro. Hopefully these issues will be addressed and fixed with an update 🤞🏽🤞🏽
