I believe this is only draining coolant from the reservoir and radiator, not the whole engine block. So 12.3L of coolant is not necessary for this job unless you bleed the whole block. Just thought I’d leave that out there but keep up the great content for the N63 Platform!
Thank you so much for being so through!! Amazing going to use this when I do my 650 as same engine
Thank you, sir. Great video; informative and easy-to-follow instructions. I appreciate it.
60-100mm. 2-4”. That’s what I was looking for, and you found it! Right on…
Hello, I was wondering the same question that someone below asked - when flushing the main coolant system, how do you flush the intercooler coolant system? You note to open the top and refill that reservoir as well, so I assume that means that that system/circuit is also draining when you pull the hose to the radiator. But isn't the intercooler coolant on a completely different circuit and run to a different radiator - either an auxiliary radiator or the intercooler radiator ? I haven't been able to figure out which one it is, but i don't know how to drain that system unless it is all connected.
Thank you for your time on finding this for us all. 🙏 🫡👍
Greetings,
When you bleed the cooling system are the caps on both reservoirs or off? And also how do I know the system is being bleed?
Thanks again!
As per the BMW TIS site:
- Make sure the Driving Experience Control is not in the "ECO PRO" position.
- Adjust heating to the maximum temperature. Set heater blower to thelowest level.
- Start cooling system bleeding procedure (this must take place within 30 seconds after the ignition has been turned on; otherwise it may occur that the actuation of the accelerator pedal is not detected):
- Press the accelerator pedal up to the stop and keep it press for at least 11 seconds (do not press the brake pedal while doing this).
- Release accelerator pedal.
- Start engine.
- The actuators in the cooling system are activated during the automated cooling system bleeding routine.
- The cooling system bleeding procedure is ended after approx. 11 minutes (electric coolant pump off)
After the end of cooling system bleeding procedure, check the coolant level in the expansion tank. Correct if necessary.
This appears to be specific to the N63TU. Normally, the other procedure involving the electrical water pump works. I believe the N63TU has a normal belt driven water pump and therefore, this procedure is how to bleed the N63TU cooling system
Also found this procedure as well:
Open vent plugs on coolant feed lines to turbocharger.
Add coolant to the upper edge of the expansion tank. The coolant level must no drop. No drop in coolant for approx. 1 minute. Close the bleeder screws of the exhaust turbocharger when coolant emerges.
FES (driving experience switch) must not be in ECO PRO!
Set heating to maximum temperature. Press the automatic button. Then reduce the blower to the smallest level for a minimum time of 5 minutes.
After the heating pump is switched off, continue adding coolant to the upper edge of the expansion tank.
Check cooling system for leaks.
Close expansion tank.
Start engine. Let the engine idle for approx. 1 minute. During this time, press on accelerator 3 times for 5 seconds each time to approx. 3000 rpm.
Warm up engine and activate map thermostat via BMW diagnosis system.
When the engine has cooled off, check the coolant level and adjust it to approx. 110 mm to 160 mm below the upper edge of the coolant filler neck (described further below in these instructions).
Awesome stuff. Where do you manage to find manuals?
That small pump and expansion tank u mentioned are not for intercoolers. The pump keeps cooling down the turbos when you turn off the engine.
That is a correct statement. They are also independent systems from one another from every bit of material I have read.
How do you drain that? Its not the same plug for main reservoir.
Is it the same coolant for the charge air cooler (2nd reservoir for intercoller ) for me to top it off
Thank you for the help 🙏🏽
Thank you! Timely - gonna do that in my F13 N63.
Make sure you have a pick set to unclip the radiator hose. A flathead screwdriver won't will take forever to unclip it
Dope videos Bro!
Have you installed the BCM connectors for the JB4 yet. How did you route them? I'm about 10 inches short to the passenger side intercooler.... thanks
Omg I have been pressing the accelerator for 10 second and it has not worked now I know why thanks bro
I drained the coolant and flushed it with water. But there is still coolant in the turbo coolers reservoir. That reservoir drain plug is different? I need to drain it because the owner before me filled it with orange coolant as well.
Have you ever thought about doing a full jb4 review of "how to read the logs in depth"🤔?
This is great man, I really appreciate it. By the way, any other maintenance you got in mind for the near future? I have the exact car and it just hit 60k and I’m doing this, engine air filter as well as cabin, coils and plugs, 1.4 Bar cap, 90 degree Thermostat, and oil cooler valve (last 3 are just to help the engine run cooler) besides that any other maintenance modifications in mind for the near future?
Hello pls help me out, I want to verify the stats to bleeding the coolant on n63 engine, if am right, you said
Switch the ignition on
Put the Ac or heater to the max
The press the pedal for 10 minutes. Is that the right step
Where did you buy that bar that crosses across your cover. (Red bar) and link to your air intake! Please
How did you take off the clip from drain plug? Its so tight!!
Do you still have this BMW? If so, how has it done with the mods you have made?
Questions just got my f10 550ix and every time I stop and check my oil cap I see it smoking. Does your car do the same thing?
My F10 528ix does the same thing, most likely just because these cars run hot
My did not work, i have bmw 528 f10 wiht 6 cyl. 2010.
Do someone know what i can do to start the bleeding
Do you run the engine with the distilled water before the flush, then fill with the 50/50 mix
Does the non TU share a similar separated reservoir for the intercooler/ECU coolant lines? Just sent my ecu out for tuning and need to know for reinstalling if I can bleed the system from the exposed reservoir by the driver side headlight as mentioned or the secondary one as shown here for the TU?
i own an N63 powered 550 (2012). There are two reservoirs. One for the turbos and the main one near the headlight.
After the initial drain, you reinstall the hose add water and run the engine?
Same coolant for both?
hey bro i have 2k16 528i m sport my steering wheel is quite heavy what to do
The hardest part is taking off that DAM clip on the hose 😭😭😭
Question regarding charge air cooler tank... can you see the coolant circulating by looking into the reservoir with the cap off? Mine is not
Damm we have almost the same amount of miles 😮
😀😍😍
Really flushing the system with water is unnecessary unless the system is rusty.
🤔🤔🤔 ... But isn't BMW a German vehicle...?
Take car to qualified (GAE) German Automotive Engineer. Cooling system flush on BMW is NOT this simple, TRUST ME.
First 👍🏻
Does it drain the coolant for the turbos as well?
