Now the M240i also has two coolant reservoirs, so not sure if this is the case on your car as well, so things may be slightly different, and it is why i'm asking.
The M240i have coolant to cool down charged air from the turbo, that is why it has 2 coolant reservoir, One reservoir to cool the engine and the other reservoir to cool down charged air from the turbo. The coolant in the charged air system and intercooler is green like new (i got some from BMW yesterday for comparison). Is this procedure also valid for 2016 BMW F20 118d with B47 engine? And finally, should the small bleeder screw remain open or completely closed during the process?
Probably, I have to look into that, I prefer to leave the bleeder screw closed (that's just me, you can do whatever you prefer). The volume of air inside the tank increases while the bleed is happening because that is the air inside the engine that's getting pushed out by the water pump. Thanks for watching!!!👍
Is that hose placed properly to get all of the water out? I’d be worried about there being some distilled water left in there from the previous flush and altering the ratio of coolant.
Hi, That is the lowest point where you can drain the coolant, A little distilled water left in there is OK, Maybe do a 55/45 mixture, 55% coolant and 45% distilled water if you are concerned about the leftover distilled water. Please LIKE & SUBSCRIBE and Thanks for watching!!!👍

true. it's called LC-18 which uses Si-OAT formulation. BMW uses Frostox HT-12 for LC-18 but it's equivalent to Glysantin G40 (VW G12++) and could be mixed with GG40 (VW G13). BMW LC-87 (blue) uses HOAT formulation Glysantin G48 (VW G11) but the newer LC-18 could be used as a replacement. what he drained is most likely LC-18

I just looked this up online and checked the coolant I just purchased. It seems that Prestone coolant is now formulated for all cars, so no need to pay more for the BMW logo on the bottle. This is similar to the claim that only BMW transmission fluid can be used in older cars, which is false. At one time BMW used Esso LT71141 semi-synthetic ATF for it's anti-foaming properties. Valvoline came out with an ATF about 5-6 years later which is still made and is full synthetic. It costs about 1/6 the cost of the BMW ATF and is actually somewhat superior because of its full synthetic nature. Yes, it does need to be changed at about 80,000-100,000 miles vs the "lifetime" BMW fluid but ZF transmission experts say the BMW "lifetime" claim is not true. It will last about 150,000 miles before it deteriorates enough to cause slow but sure damage to the transmission.
I was told it had "conditioners" to keep the light plastic coolant parts hydrated I think that's true because on several bmws we swapped for green coolant and had parts crack and leak on multiple Beemers so I think it has an additive to keep the plastics soft.....

Please LIKE & SUBSCRIBE and Thanks for watching!!!👍

what about that bleeding screw on the coolant tank
Great video but just a heads up but that green was prob the right coolant sir. BMW switched from blue to green in 2018 FYI.
Thanks for the comment, I just didn't trust the used car dealer were I bought my car, Just for peace of mind I rather change it to the blue BMW coolant that I bought from the BMW dealer. Thanks for the info about BMW green coolant.

true. it's called LC-18 which uses Si-OAT formulation.
I did the first water flush and I got foamy water why do you think?
Hi Xander, I have no idea why it's foamy, Did you have any overheating problem with your engine? If I were you I will wait about a week and do another flush just to check out if the foam is gone or still there. Consult your mechanic if still foamy.

@@edcardiy when bleeding car with water in it, do you have cap off and bleeder screw or just one or the other or both closed. I did both closed and also just make sure you do need to bleed for the water flush right?

Both closed, Bleed the water then flush.

after adding distilled water, do you turn it off to remove the hose??
Hi Agustin Perez, Sorry for the delay, You have to complete the bleeding process before taking the hose off from the rad.
Bleeding process removes all the air trapped inside the engine for better coolant circulation, Also helps to remove all left over coolant inside the engine.

How long does the bleeding process take
It takes about 10min or less depending how much air you have in the coolant lines.

Does it really matter if you use prestone?
JF, To be safe, always use what BMW recommends what type of fluids to be used on your BMW. The prestone could be OK, But I don't want to take a chance, There could be harmful chemicals that can react with the BMW engine.
More DIY & Mods coming soon, Please LIKE & SUBSCRIBE and Thanks for watching!!!👍
Same though cause I topped up with Preston as well
If you use the wrong type of coolant in a BMW engine, it causes corrosion because it reacts with the magnesium alloy that the engine block is made of very, very bad for the longevity of your engine
also, do you keep it connected to a battery charger all the time or only when bleeding?
You have to keep the charger connected until you finish all the procedure in changing the complete coolant.

Hi,nice job and thank for this video! Can you say me if the procedure is the same for a bmw f31 320d diesel b47 engine?
It should be the same because it's the same F series BMW, Just check the front bumper corner grill if you see any radiator fins thru the vents. If there is then it should be the same.

Might want to drain some more with 50/50 cause you’re not running 50/50 right now. Too much water
Just did mine. After flushing I just refilled with %100 coolant concentrate. It took about 3.5L which is almost half of the 2 gallon capacity. Drained 1L and added 1L of coolant. Should be about 50/50. Not a huge deal though.
Hi 2017 M2 N55 engine same way like video? Thanks a lot.
I think so since we both have N55, If you check the front of driver side front bumper and see a small radiator then it should be the same process. Thanks for watching! 👍
Change because Color is different ?
Used car dealer (not BMW car dealer) used Prestone instead of BMW coolant, That is why I drained the Prestone and replaced it with proper BMW coolant.
Thanks for watching!!!👍
Does the same procedure apply with a diesel?
Probably? I have to look into that, Thanks for watching!!!👍
USE THE CAR WATER PUMP TO FLUSH IT JUST TAKES ABOUT 4 MIN TO COMPLETE PUMP KICKS OUT OLD COOLANT VERY FAST
Does this procedure works on 2020 bmw x3?

Hi! Thank you for your info!
Do you think i can do this procedure on my bmw f30 320d n47 ? I struggle to find any info about it.
Hi, Check if you have a smaller radiator, By looking on the front bumper sides vents, I you have small rads then it's the same procedure, But if you don't have then you have top drain it on the bottom part of the main radiator.

This does not work for a 2013 BMW 335i F30. My car doesn’t have an auxiliary coolant radiator near the wheel.
Raul Martinez, Sorry for the delay, I have checked all 2013 BMW F30 335i online and they all have aux radiator, I even checked FCP Euro.com and they have auxiliary radiator part for your car, Do you have any vents on your fender liner on the driver's side front wheel? If you have then you have aux radiator.

@@edcardiy Hello Ed. Thank you for replying. I went to realoem and it looks like only M Sport models have an auxiliary radiator. Maybe BMW decided to include it in all models after that year but I will have to double check. The could explain why my model didn't have an auxiliary radiator. All models do have an engine oil cooler which is located on the passenger side for North American models.
its only for automatic
How much time for bleeding process you leave the car 10-15min?
Hi, It all depends how much air you have in your engine, Just listen to the gurgling sound when it stop, then that is it.
Do a second bleed just to make sure that there is no more air. By the way don't forget to connect a charger on the battery while doing this.
Water pump takes a lot of power from the battery.

I make prestone coolant it's much better than what in the BMW bottle. They just want you to buy thier stuff at a higher price....coloured coolants ie green ,pink are made the same just different dyes used. Prestone is far superior and guarantees 10years no other coolant has a guarantee. Just make sure to buy concentrate and dilute with distilled water.
Thanks for the advise, I will keep that in mind, I have more DIY and Mods coming soon, Stay tuned for that.

what base did Prestone use?. Glysantin G40/GG40 if i could guess?
I'll stick to what my car recommends not some random persons comment on TH-cam that supposedly makes prestone lol.. but thanks!

You are not using the coolant tester correctly. You are supposed to hold it 'level' with the small arrow pointing up to midnight, and then read the bigger lateral arrow which shows you what temperature your fluid will freeze. Should read 30'some sub zero at least.
Hi 31acruz, I'm not using the tester to test the coolant, I'm just showing the fluid inside my reservoir tank that the dealer put the wrong coolant in my car, The coolant should be blue instead of green, By the way thanks for noticing the tester.

NOW GO IN YOUR CAR AND START THE WATER PUMP LIKE YOUR GOING TO BLEED IT. 5) ONCE THE PUMP STARTS WORKING KEEP ADDING COOLANT INTO THE RESERVOIR DONT LET IT RUN OUT!!!!!! AFTER YOU SEE NEW NICE NEW COOLANT COMING OUT IN BUCKET YOU GOT IT!!!!
