  • Hey guys, comparing 16 games with 4GB vs 8GB VRAM. I personally use 8GB, however, I think Asus should give us more options, like 5GB, 6GB & 7GB.

Hey, check out my pinned comment, I just tested 5 of the games on Auto. The 1% and 0.1% lows suffer a LOT with Auto. I've played Horizon 5 quite a bit and the experience was really bad compared to using 8GB. Same with the other games.

Bro! You are killing it with these videos! Awesome content man. Also, I really liked the last video regarding the RIS! How do you feel about any of the other settings within the AMD software? Features like "Chill" or "Anti-lag" I don't touch any of that unless I see you talk about it lol. Furthermore, have you thought about any emulation such as: Yuzu, Cemu, RPCS3, Xenia canary?
Settings with any of those emulators would be amazing! Maybe that's more of a future thing since it is probably going to require a ton of testing especially because you are very thorough and the community as you can see really appreciates that! Keep the videos coming bro!

Thanks man! I found chill to limit FPS is nowhere near as good as using RTSS, and Anti-Lag can cause major stuttering in some games. So I personally leave off Anti-Lag. I am wanting to do a video on anti-lag though, just to test it more in-depth.
The only emulation I do is CEMU, and it works pretty good on the Ally. I'm not much of an expert in the emulation department since I don't really use them. I might look into them at some point though :)

Nice comparison. Interestingly for me when I was on 319, I had the same issues in COD as you and 8g fixed the stuttering but in Diablo 4 it was a stuttering mess for me. Tried Division 2 and the same on 4g so I tried the auto setting and Diablo 4 runs very smooth for me (high settings with shadows low and reflections, locked at 60 720 with RSR on and balanced) as well as division 2 at high settings with shadows reduced (locked 60 720) and smooth on COD also. Other games ran great and Fortza 4 at high settings ran great too. Though I did downgrade my bios to 317 prior to these massive stutters which fixed the micro stutters in Diablo.

Thanks :). Auto can be a good option, but some games don't like it. Diablo 4 is one of them that is basically unplayable when it's in Auto. Horizon 5 gives a warning message each time you try to start it. So I mainly wanted to test settings that someone can set and it'll work with all the games they're playing. Although, I'm sure there is a game where 8GB will cause the system memory to be so low it doesn't work properly. I just haven't found a game yet.

⭐⭐NEW more in-depth video on VRAM here: th-cam.com/video/zPNvmg8wi0A/w-d-xo.html
    --Original Comment
I ran "Auto" with the same settings on a few of the games above. Here are the results:
    Horizon 5:
    Avg: 73 FPS
    1% Low: 48 FPS
    0.1% Low: 22 FPS
    Cyberpunk:
    Avg: 60 FPS
    1% Low: 29 FPS
    0.1% Low: 14 FPS
    Crysis:
    Avg: 63 FPS
    1% Low: 33 FPS
    0.1% Low: 26 FPS
    Metro Exodus:
    Avg: 78 FPS
    1% Low: 46 FPS
    0.1% Low: 44 FPS
    Diablo 4:
    Avg: 47 FPS
    1% Low: 16 FPS
    0.1% Low: 2 FPS
Just based on the above 5 games I decided to stop testing Auto. While I see it could work for people, the stuttering and low 1% Low / 0.1% Lows were extremely bothersome to me. Some people don't mind this (and might not even notice it), and if you're using Auto and happy, I say keep using it. For me I would not enjoy the experience in Auto when I can use 8GB (or even 4GB) and get a much smoother experience.

The 8gb is overall not a good option imo…ROG Ally would need to have 32GB RAM for 8GB to become viable for us…once we set VRAM to 8GB the system starts lacking RAM a lot!
For 1080p 6GB of VRAM is the sweetspot but even that might be “too much” in most games as we usually play games at low/medium textures which is graphic setting that eats VRAM the most.
4GB VRAM is amazing for most games and as some people in the comments already said…we definitelly need 6GB option for those AAA games!

However, I have been absolutely blown away by what the Ally can do with RSR (I only use if no native FSR support in game) enabled at 720P. Quick summary of my experience:
Some of my fav games (valheim, Elden Ring) are unfortunately pretty poorly optimized and just not a great experience in 1080P. Kicking RSR on and dropping to 720P gives me pretty much a locked 60 in both with a mix of Med and Low settings, but does NOT look like 720P. It's a great experience and text is not difficult to read .
That said, there are plenty of other games that just look absolutely horrible and aren't good candidates for RSR, but most of the ones I've run into in that category run really well at 1080P after fine tuning the settings. :)

I've seen the same :). I really want that 6GB option, hopefully Asus adds it. I think it'd be a good sweet spot between 4gb and 8gb.

Why dont you just put it in auto ?

There are issues in some games with Auto. Horizon 5 being one of them, anytime you start the game there is a pop up behind the splash screen that will keep it from launching until you click ok. Also the performance from my testing does not beat 8GB. In Diablo 4 you get major stuttering when in Auto. I was going to do an Auto vs 4GB v 8GB, but after realizing the problems with Auto I decided to stick with 4GB vs 8GB. However, if Auto is working for you or anyone else, they should use it. I did enjoy it until I started running into issues in certain games.

I just pinned a comment with 5 games tested with the exact same settings. The 1% and 0.1% lows are much lower in most of them. Some people won't notice this. 8GB is a lot smoother though when compared to Auto.

I'm running 25W Manual (all 3 sliders). It keeps it from boosting up to high watts: th-cam.com/video/NNy5Nkw9oAw/w-d-xo.html

If I end up doing deep dives into games I'll test a variety of settings. However, I wanted to try and test these games at settings people would enjoy the screen on the Ally. If they're all running below 60FPS, then I feel it'd somewhat be taking away from the experience the Ally can offer. Glad you like the videos :)

I always use high texture settings and everything else too. I like to enjoy beautiful game graphics. 30-40 fps good for me
